Hi Matt I have a holland with adjusting bolt out the front. Like you said turn it out tightens it. I have gone to shops that have kingpin and a long handle. They lock it in your fifth wheel. Then adjust it. But I do mine like you do. Great advice as always.
Just spotted this video today - after a year of lots of drop and hooks I really need to do this. Was going thru your videos and adding all your securement videos to a playlist. Makes it easy for me to find them and review while I'm waiting to load.
lol I’m such a dumbass I turned it 2.5 turns clockwise thinking it was gonna tighten now I’m running with a little bit more play😅 Thank you for the informative video 👍
The fifth on the KW I drive does not unlatch at times, I never seen a mechanic, nor I adjust the fifth wheel. Could this help with unlatching from a trailer?
I have a volvo vnl 2016 the adjustable nut is on the passenger side of the 5th wheel, i adjusted it by turning it but it keeps turning but i still have play. What could be the issue
@@realmike8238 don’t know anything about the Volvo specifically but fifth wheels do eventually wear out there’s only so much adjustment and then it just needs to be replaced, have a shop check it they have a tool to tell you exactly where you’re at

Appreciate this, mine feels like it has so much slack when I stop or pull forward, I’ll give it a go

Probably not if you don’t have any play when you pull forward, that sounds more like a mechanical jaw issue. Might just need some more grease.
@@sturgelltruckingllc4074 Thanks, I will share your channel with our drivers. This is helpful, thanks.
When you park, set you trailer brakes and bump that kingpin up to the 5th wheel so the jaws aren't up against the jaws then release the brakes

@@sturgelltruckingllc4074 thank you so much! It had 800k miles never adjusted never changed! I believe its time for a rebuild or a new one
@@realmike8238 most likely
Does the trailer have to be hooked up in order to adjust ?
Nope
Thanks
How to know when is too tight?
It will bind and pop when you turn
