Everybody was impressed with PewDiePie. But it's really not that hard to get that level of improvement. He wasn't really drawing anything particularly hard. He basically was just drawing anime girl portraits. Mostly. If you draw the same thing every day you can get pretty good at it relatively fast.
That's how people usually learn anatomy and how to draw body parts. They just dropped a bunch of arms for like a week. Then draw them from memory and then move on to other parts of the body
Good vid but I disagree about not using reference.. I feel like you should always use reference but the degree at which you use it should change.. So if your drawing a for example bird. Don't get the exact bird you want but fill a blank reference board with different birds and different perspectives / lighting / values / styles and just have them there in the background.. People's minds are the best computers on the planet..
