A good way to fit in the smaller miniatures, like Azrael and Asmodai, is to say that they are the augmented knights from Caliban that were to old to undergo the ascension process. Thus the size difference makes a bit more sense.
Still boggles my mind that there's lore channels, tabletop videos, and fan animations, and you're like the one channel that discusses units, value for money and explaining the practical rules of the game. I like it, it's one good source. But I've always found that an interesting thing about Warhammer channels.
Guerilla Miniature Games is also a great channel for discussing rules, though he doesn't solely focus on Warhammer. He's recently put a lot of videos out on the new HH, with a big focus on the rules and changes.
Auspex Tactics has focused mostly on 40k, but has basically said that as he gets more into Heresy, he's going to start covering Heresy is much the same way.
My Night Lords and Word Bearers have basically all they need to get going but I still love watching these kinds of videos. They are a well of creativity! Thanks for putting out banger after banger!
Great video been out of the Heresy loop for a while but coming back with 2.0 and finally starting my Dark Angels. Liked your idea with the the Deathwing box as well.
I have a huge problem with this video. Where's the iconic Outer Circle background music? I can't believe you've done this Mr. Circle. In all seriousness, good video can't wait to see the rest of the Dark Angels videos you have in mind.
I'm not new to this, but having gotten rid of my old army I will be starting a new one in the near future, and you've shared some great ideas that I'm totally going to have to look into. Thanks dude.
This video was so helpful. I sadly can't afford the box set, but I plan to get most of the marks we have in plastic and kit bash them together for a ragtag feel for my dark angels.
Love the video, very informative, well thought out and certainly gives perspective DA players ideas to make a more unique force. Pity I'm starting an Alpha Legion force and will have to wait for that installment in the series.
Good enough video for a like, but I was hoping to hear more thoughts on how to gear the starter box up in the most optimal way for the first Legion. Breachers vs Chain Bayonets vs assault marines etc…
I think going off what he said that sounds like it will be the 2nd part of each legion video. This is simply what you should be buying the 2nd part is how you should run dark angels or run them optimally.
@@Wcverhaagh you are absolutely correct, that's video 2. Part 1 is all about not wasting your money with ridiculous day one purchases that won't help you out until you hit 3k points.
It depends alot on how you want to field the first legion becuase they are very flexible for legion (thier core mechanic is about being flexable). My advise be deciding if you want to run a wing rite of war (like ravenwing) becuase that will change your build plan.
I love DA, but already play them in 40k (as a successor chapter, so I'm already painting them black and can't be arsed doing that for Heresy too). Going to have to be patient until the XVIIth get their day in the sun. Great start to the series, thanks for your work Macca, really helps make the Horus Heresy understandable and interesting to pick up.
Waiting on the XIX. Can’t wait to see what you say about them. Great video sir, very helpful to those looking at starting a Dark Angel Army! Thank you for the helpful Videos!
Hey I finally figured out what that one praetor with the sword (besides the sword of omens from thunder cats) it looks like somebody made the model with one of those cocktail swords for olives or whatever, and it’s just stupidly out of scale with the mini.
Not specifically for DA, but are there any good plastic bases for converting a mk II librarian? I like the ldea of librarius equipment being something old and outdated that had to be pulled back out of mothballs.
@@HyperK7 It is and you can use all 40 marines from the box for firwing, and it would still not represent the total size of that tiny wing, that is the Firewing.
Hey Mac, would you be interested in doing another showcase of Horus Heresy miniatures/conversions from the community? Would love to see some community pride in spite of the lack of love for actual heresy hobbyists.
How much of a pain in the ass do you think it would be to convert mark 5 armor? The older chaos models (with the horns and all cut off) look pretty close, it seems like if you could get some plastic or metal beads and a drill bit to sink them into the pads and legs that you’d be most of the way there. But the numbers of models you’d have to hand build like the Emperor with his golden boys would be immense…
@@dominicvucic8654 I agree, but I would simple “cut” it right. I mean I would cut the detail of so it’s just a normal long sword. Though both are just too beautiful.

This feels like a parody of an outer circle video! “I’m going to assume you just went all MKVI for the army that had loads of relic armour and veterans so Just buy the latest GW it’s all fine you can get away with it asmodai and azrael look totally 30k. Get some 40k terminators too just to give GW more money! Ignore the deathwing knights and azrael having watcher in the dark iconography which wasn’t common until after the heresy! Am I right guys?” And no jazz music? Ok who’s holding a gun to your head? If you want cool looking DAs invest in MKII or MKIII, that feels propper veteran, maybe get some death guard grave warden terminators with spare combi-bolter arms from a 3rd party for a cool and affordable squad. Get the now out of production MKII and MKIV DA shoulderpads 3rd party for more upgrades, get all upgrades 3rd party if you want. You bought the mini, who you get spare parts, that doesn’t impact its function from is up to you. Get a DA contemptor body and some heavy weapons like auto cannons and missile launchers from FW to round out your army!
Yeah looking into heresy I watched a lot of videos where he says you "techniquely can" but no one wants to play against a Mk7 army ported into 30k painted like 30k. So it's really confusing watching his Salamanders video and now this one where hes just kitbashing tons of 40k stuff into 30k.
@@PB-re1mm easy response is this, the 40k bits don't look 40k. They look esoteric which is what makes them work. For example, the Deathwing Knights robed bodies, once you put cataphractii or tartarus legs and arms onto them look fantastic, nothing 40k about it. As for the relic armour on veterans and such, yes, we are going to cover that more in the next video, because as I point out here, I'm *assuming* people are new to 30k, like their plastics, aren't so familiar with resin and are really uncertain about what to do, it's aimed at those people.
@@TheOuterCircle Overall I agree with the ideas and this is the only legion so far that this comes up. I appreciate how you're trying to help people get into 30k just surprised to see you taking that approach.
While you have thoroughly gone through the many options available to players, to build a Dark Angels Legion force. However, given the ridiculously high prices to get it done, I can't see one person amassing such a force. It would take five to ten friends, pooling their money together, to be able to pull this off. An expensive proposition, indeed.

Azrael is a dwarf compared to the plastic MKIII, MKIV. Even with some plasticard under feet it will be small.
