Price action is the movement of a security's price plotted over time. Price action forms the basis for all technical analysis of a stock, commodity or other asset chart. Many short-term traders rely exclusively on price action and the formations and trends extrapolated from it to make trading decisions. Technical analysis as a practice is a derivative of price action since it uses past prices in calculations that can then be used to inform trading decisions.
Price action can be seen and interpreted using charts that plot prices over time. Traders use different chart compositions to improve their ability to spot and interpret trends, breakouts and reversals. Many traders use candlestick charts since they help better visualize price movements by displaying the open, high, low and close values in the context of up or down sessions.
Candlestick patterns such as the Harami cross, engulfing pattern and three white soldiers are all examples of visually interpreted price action. There are many more candlestick formations that are generated off price action to set up an expectation of what will come next. These same formations can apply to other types of charts, including point and figure charts, box charts, box plots and so on.
Price action is not generally seen as a trading tool like an indicator, but rather the data source off which all the tools are built. Swing traders and trend traders tend to work most closely with price action, eschewing any fundamental analysis in favor of focusing solely on support and resistance levels to predict breakouts and consolidation. Even these traders must pay some attention to additional factors beyond the current price, as the volume of trading and the time periods being used to establish level

On top of what you said, which is such a great explanation, I use an additional 'indicator' to identify reversal (I trade crypto which is obviously more hectic than fx or indices so perhaps it's more visible on this market) - unnaturally long wicks. If engulfing candle or the one before it has a very long wick (sometimes both) on 15m+ chart is a great confirmation of a reversal (obviously means nothing on its own).

Hey Arty, great video but one question: on that trend reversal trade your RSI source was the close, however the close of the candle you used for the divergence was above the close of the previous "swing low". Is that an improper use or is it okay to use the wicks for divergences?

I've read that, for identifying bullish divergence, looking at the lows is necessary and only the closing value is chosen for study divergences since the source for RSI is the closing value.
I have a question: when identifying RSI divergences, which one do you look? The candle closes or candle wicks??

Arty I have a trip for your viewers who like me aren't always sure about the right trendline after divergence occurs. Well if you add a 21 EMA it works well as a trendline. For example, prices move below the 200 ema and the 21 ema on a downtrend. It makes 2 or 3 or more moves lower from touches of the 21 ema say. Then let's say the last 2 moves lower causes divergence bullish. Wait for the bull candle that closes over the 21 ema and it works every time as good as the trendline which can be a bit discretionary ....; let me know your thoughts!
