    "Now the food is cold and the wife feels old and all hands are fold as the 2 year old says grace. She says help the starving children to get well... but let my brother's hamster burn in hell..." Possibly the greatest line I've ever heard from any song ever

    What a great preformer John Hiatt is. Funny how glitz and glitter capture so many but true musical genius is often overlooked.

    This is the first John Hiatt song I ever heard, I heard the album version. Good arrangement, good guitar, interesting words and good vocals. Bought the album. Got hooked. The man is a poet, great composer and great musician.

      Album version from Bring The Family. Different line up of musicians. Freakin' can't beat Cooder, Keltner, and Lowe!

    I love how he forgets his lyrics and just keeps going. Smooth.

      Not once but twice!! I've noticed that on several of his live performances. As long as it all rhymes in the end, I guess.

    landreth was the best of the many guitarists that hiatt hired over the years. he has gone on to a great solo carerea(sic).

    In Webster's online version, this performance should be linked to both "talent" and "electricity".

      Kenneth Blevins... an old friend of mine along with John, Sonny Landreth (guitar) and Dave Ranson (bass). They are The Goners but no longer touring with John.

      Yep, good drummer, but Jim Keltner really killed it on the studio version.

    The flubbed line is "and ya feel like hell so ya might as well get out and
    sell your smart ass door to door".Great song from a great artist !!

    • @WichitaGuy56
      @WichitaGuy56 4 года назад

      Really? I thought he nailed it with "and der girgen fard der sumbin tard smart ass door to door".

  • @fanzappa
    @fanzappa 12 лет назад +1

    writer's inspiration does not have to come from their lives. hiatt wrote a song about a guy shotgunning his family (...barbie ferrari).

  • @alisonprov1
    @alisonprov1 12 лет назад +1

    If he's impersonating his Dad, here, in this performance it doesn't sound like he liked him...but he's a true artist and his inspiration could have come from somewhere else!!

  • @alphuez

    I thought he had lost some of his edge for a little while but with the cd "Dirty Jeans and Mudslide Hymns" I think he's regained it. Lots of very dark songwriting.

  • @fanzappa
    @fanzappa 12 лет назад

    now that he is older, the edge has gone from his songwriting and performing, i'm afraid. that is said as a huge fan.

    Funny that John loses his own lines at 0:47. Do fans know the lyrics better than their idol does?
