    I had the same surgery, except on my left shoulder back in 2021, it took me a long time to recover. Like 6 months and even then I had to take it slow at first, when I worked that arm again

    I've had that on both shoulders, my throwing power never came back to prior to injury. It will depend on how bad it is in there, MRI's don't show the full extent, just that there is a problem.

    REMEMBER Masa was fine against lefty pitching (.273) in 2023. The injury likely caused problem 2024. He throws righty which might be another reason he wasn't in LF. When healthy adequate LF with around .300 ave, 15-20 HR, 80-90, excellent OBP. Surgery could be blessing allowing him to be what they thought they were getting.

    • @redseatradio
      @redseatradio  3 дня назад +1

      Yeah no again I dont think there is a bad thing around keeping masa, he’s a very productive player when he is healthy, but again when you look at roster construction a masa trade would make things much much easier

  • @petergarcia6645
    @petergarcia6645 4 дня назад +1

    This is very unfortunate news Masa is likely going to have to stay until he proves he's not injured. I don't see a fit for him on this team but he's probably going to only play against right handed pitching. As you pointed out there's no good answers to solve this issue it's already going to be an interesting hot stove and this really complicates everything.

    Btw,that front shoulder has a lot to do with hitting.. I'd bet this had a ton to do with his struggles hitting lefties in 2024 as well with less range of motion.. He's never had issues hitting lefties until this year. Again,lets just wait and let it work itself out. Don't forget,when he was healthy, in his first 88 games in Boston he hit 12 homers and hit .320...hit .273 against lefties in 2023 and peppered the monster.. And he hit lefties in Japan as well. And he clearly wasn't playing in the outfield because of his throwing arm. Id just be patient. Deal from a position of strength.

    I don't think there was much of a market for him to bring much back anyway, unless they were going to eat a lot of money like the Sale trade. Contract-wise, they look like they are committed to Devers at 3B, Rafaella in CF, Casas, Story, etc. I would be pleasantly surprised if they dealt him and made changes. But they changed will probably be smaller and I hope it's not three more months of rumors and speculation.

    Keep Masa and Redsox did this to themselves so pay Masa and use him to the teams best interest. Masa should realize our rookies and 2nd year outfielders with Duran and possibly O'Neil he just can't be an everyday fielder. Masa with a healed shoulder should be solid. He's on the team now make moves regardless of this fact. Masa might not get to play some games and he will need to be a team leader. Like in moneyball when Beane talks to David Justice 😅😊.

    You touched on many of the points of just how much this will impact his trade value here, for that great job! I don't mind keeping him as your platoon Left handed DH, he can hit and doesn't strike out much so that is pretty important. Right now only way he goes is if they eat most of the contract and or part with a few decent prospects to go along with that. No team will want a DH only making that much who just had surgery. The only option that you did not cover was, with all the possible tentions here and if he hears that most teams will not want him as a DH only, could he decide to go back to Japan? Might be the best case scenario for all involved. Just a thought.

    • @redseatradio

    Baseballtradevalues has Yoshida's value -23.6 million. He is owed 55. 8 million for 3 year. His 1.4WAR average x 9 million is worth 12.6×3 years =37.8 million

    Masa's surgery makes him untradable to the trade deadline. His spot is needed to become more right-handed. They may move Abreau. But, there is a roster crunch. Not just the 26 but the 40 man. With all the people on the 60 day injury list. They all need to be moved to the 40 man. I believe the right handed bat will be internal. I think Grissom will be a 2nd with Hamilton being the back up. To get another right handed bat. They have Campbell. He can also play the outfield. But he will need to be moved onto the 40 man. None of the studs need to be added to the 40 man immediadieately so there is time. It will be another month before we start seeing the moves on how the Red Sox are going to create the roster. The Red Sox may have almost an identical team as last year (minus the free agents) because of all the players hurt. You will see a new player added monthly when injuries hit.

    One trade I could see Yoshida involved in is for Arenado. Cardinals are trying to shed payroll and go through a retool, and don’t really have any lefty contact bats besides Brendan Donavon. Left field could also open for them, as they can move Nootbaar to Right Field and DH Jordan Walker
    I don’t think the prospects given up would have to be anything crazy. Just browsing the prospects potentially Bleis and Sandlin? I’m not too good at trade value but just something I came up with. Only thought of this because they have Bloom in their FO now. But this would give you a gold glove right-handed hitter at 3rd base to help with defense, you can either play Casas or Devers at 1st and DH the other, and it would only cost about $4 million more this year for Arenado, as the Rockies still pay a part of his contract for the next two years. After next year, his contract is even less than what the Red Sox pay for Yoshida
    Just a thought - of course this is all dependent on if Arenado lets his No Trade Clause go to the Red Sox, most Cardinals fans assume he wants to go be a Dodger. I will admit that I’m a Cardinals fan, so if there’s any bias to this trade I apologize. I don’t know if the Cardinals would be interested but I feel like reaching out to Bloom doesn’t hurt in this situation. Enjoy listening to the show

    I agree that Yoshida at this point is not the best fit for the team but I question the wisdom of thinking of the DH spot as a rotational fill-in ..historically the best have been set as DH most of the time like Edgar Martinez, David Ortiz and even Shohei Ohtani right now.
