2021 Polaris Sportsman 570 - Belt Box Exhaust Mod

  • Some of the 2021's come standard from the factory with the belt box exhaust right over the left rear wheel allowing water, mud, small pebbles into the belt box from the spinning left rear wheel. I essentially extended the exhaust so that it would be away from that left rear wheel.

    June 2022: Just taking all this apart for the first time for a belt replacement. A lot of crap in there after dry, dusty riding. Surprised there's not some sort of light mesh filter preventing ingress. Thanks for the video. :)

    Amazing to see Polaris continues to manufacture ATVs with this issue. I had a 2000 Polaris Scrambler 500 with the CVT intake located inside the front left fender. Sold the bike around 18 years ago and going from memory but I seem to recall it faced forward .... maybe rearward. Whichever orientation, it could and did let water inside. At that point, it was a paper weight and wouldn't move. On a trail, in a water hole ... didn't matter. Spoke to the dealer where I bought it who said they addressed it in newer models (maybe '02, '03 - something like that) but wouldn't do anything to fix my issue. Lost confidence in the bike and the dealer.

      I don’t blame you. For a manufacturer selling these types of vehicle for decades, I don’t understand their thought process on this.

      Thanks Weston. Sorry to hear you got water in your belt box, this is such a poor design by Polaris. I took my quad to an ATV park for the day and while I don’t “submarine” it, I did hit plenty of big puddles with mud - no water came into the belt box. 👍 I have a video of that day here on my channel. In the next few days I’ll be posting a follow-up video to this mod and also a review video of the Sportsman in general.

    Im confused as to why you say 3 to 2 reducer but the flexible hose is 3"? could someone comment with the proper part numbers to do this to a 2022 570 trail please? Thx and I will be doing this asap!

    • @JimboP-Outside
      @JimboP-Outside  2 года назад +1

      Because the flexible hose I used and the opening of the belt box exhaust were almost the same size. By using the reducer it allowed me to go outside of the belt box exhaust and inside of the flexible tubing in order to make the connection and clamp them down. Another option could have been a pipe that would join both on the inside (or outside if big enough). There are many possibilities.

    • @JimboP-Outside
      @JimboP-Outside  3 года назад +1

      Yeah, I have no idea either. Only explanation that I’ve heard so far is that the rear belt box exhaust was designed like this to allow more air ventilation for engines with EBS. Other than that, I have no idea why

      If it’s that bad, it might be more than just the intake and exhaust. You might need to seal the back of your belt box. That means pulling the cover, both clutches, and sealing the back. I haven’t done this myself. Polaris rushed these machines out the door, my opinion.

  • @westonlance2814

    Have yall figured out how too put the back seat on?

    • @JimboP-Outside
      @JimboP-Outside  3 года назад

      When I bought my machine there was an employee providing orientation on my new ATV. He kept showing me, being very precise about how to put the seat back on. I was trying to figure out what the big deal was. Then he showed me that if you don’t put it in correctly, you’ll push the rubber grommets out the bottom and lose them. So he showed me to slide the front in, then walk around to the back and be careful to align the seat pins into the rubber grommets correctly then push down. Apparently a lot of folks are rushing and their pushing the rubber grommets out (not realizing) making the seat is lose.
