not gonna lie to you guys, the antipiracy / DRM stuff sucks. its caused way more issues than its fixed. I am removing that crap in the next update

I'm not saying someone shouldn't be rewarded for their work, just that putting DRM in a mod is going too far. It might even backfire and make people less interested in supporting and pirates to be provoked ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Oh gosh, when I hear 'anti-piracy measures' in the context of a GMod addon, I have flashbacks to addons with viruses and other stuff, flashbanging kids with gore, and getting people banned on Steam.

If you’re so concerned, it probably isn’t that hard to just go into the addon’s lua and remove any remote calls, though that could be seen as getting around the piracy measures

That would probably just encourage them to obfuscate the code, which is just... bleh.
I know they said they'd open-source it eventually, but the whole 'pay to access' could go on indefinitely, and the concept of money in modding and the incentives involved make me uncomfortable in general.

upload it in *High Bitrate* 4k otherwise it wont help, also try to see if you can get YT to process the video in 1080p premium

That's true, although by implementing a DRM I get some experience in managing paid software in a community. It's good to know the ups and downs of each side and the technical challenges of implementing them
So far I'm definitely leaning toward the 'No DRM' side because there's more false-positives than I would have anticipated. It just complicates things imo
@@Meetric1 Definitely, although the experience is useful you would need a dedicated team for this. It would be a monumental task for just you alone to review all flagged users. I know that it's easier said than done to provide a better service than pirates, but I think it's the right mindset.
I actually had some help. 'Misname' wrote the backend which I used.
However, I made two fatal mistakes
1. The verification and flagging was based on your IP. IPs are not at all static and a ton of people got flagged for no reason (I should have used SteamIDs)
2. Using and disclosing the existence of the anti-piracy. Duh.
overall I think having anti-piracy for a WIP GMod addon is a bit much, so I've decided to completely remove it. Although in theory the system would've worked, it self destructed in practice. I probably won't consider doing anything like it again. I think the GabeN ideology is far superior to any form of DRM
Amazing how an engine made for a game from 20 years ago put to good use by a talented developer can still manage to amaze me more than modern videogames do nowadays.

I havent played gmod since forever and you occasionally pop up in my feed, I admire your work and ethics, I am happy to hear that you don't punish people who pirate stuff, because some of these peope could be literally kids who just wanted to play with water physics and have no money. Which was the issue with the guy who created that parkour mod back in the day.

great work on the new foam particles since they already look so much better compared to the original gwater foam, hoping to see some more options to adjust the time for the foam and total amount of particles as well (and color change). but other than that very neat update!

This is awesome, and seeing how it evolved from basic clusters of particles is even more fascinating. I'd still keep the DRM because this shit's so well done and hard work on your part, but I digress. If you made a paid version with extra features + DRM that'd probably be a good middle ground.

if your having trouble with youtube's bitrate its because they nerfed 1080p a couple years ago i'd try uploading in at least 1440 that should give you a little bit more juice!

The preview fluid sim bug is probably caused by the fact that the only part of the simulation parented to the window is the emitter; the particles merely collide with the edges of the preview pane. While this does allow for a cool effect, where one can shake the window to disturb the fluid, it also means that whenever a fluid can no longer interact with colliders, e.g. when timescale is zero, it won't, causing in this case a sim frozen in place. I would thus suggest checking when timescale is zero and then parenting the whole sim to the window while that is the case.
If I knew the reason I would've fixed it. Lol. Its such a stupid bug

my guess of the timescale thing breaking the preview is that it just drags out the frames, and when you put it to 0, its waiting until this frame is done to update the speed, but since its at -infinite speed, it will never update
1:56 About youtube bitrate, even if you are recording in 1080p, you might want to scale it to 4k before uploading to youtube, since youtube allows for 4 times higher bitrate in 4k, you will have 4 times more data for each pixel you originally recorded, and the image will still be crisp since scaling from 1080p to 4k will transform each pixel in 4 pixels in a square
