The video of Refaat Alareer teaching the first class meeting of his poetry class is fantastic in so many ways as well as devastating because it contrasts the world’s tragic loss of him as a human being and a cultivator of humanity.
"You're not going to genocide your way out of this national liberation struggle." Thanks Jon (and Nora, Ali, Asa, Tamara, and the many contributors in Gaza and around the world) for those words and for the comfort of solidarity in community. I am so often floored by the strength of Palestinian voices from Gaza, the West Bank, and in the Diaspora who knowingly understand that they are the tip of the spear for a global reckoning between the colonized and colonizers, and who even sympathize with those of us who are in nations that back the war. A Yemeni spokesperson, speaking to the people of other Arab nations, expressed sympathy, saying that (I am paraphrasing) you are suffering because you cannot contribute, and we are happy in the face of US attacks because we know we are able to be in solidarity. He is right. To be able to be in integrity and live according to your value system is true liberation, and many of us do not have that even as we live away from the slaughter, in material comfort. I am grateful for the decades of dedication your team has shown for the Palestinian cause in the face of appalling and brutal global apathy. That commitment, the relationships, and deep knowledge from years of effort are what you share so generously now with so many of us now who thirst to understand. This genocide is a moment when alternative media has come into its own and become a beacon of truth. It is a heavy load and you bear it with grace. My deep gratitude.
80 years ago, on 27th January 1944, the Red Army broke through the blockade of Leningrad, that had been besieged by the Nazi - Wehrmacht for 900 days. More than 1.1 million people died in Leningrad due to the blockade, mostly due to starvation. After the liberation, Leningrad could again be supplied with food, medicine etc. And of course the Red Army finally liberated the Auschwitz concentration camp on 27th January 1945; as well as Germany, Europe and the world, of the scourge of fascism on 9th May 1945. - Thank you EI for your work and all the important information you give us and the world. Free Gaza! Free Palestine!
Sending love to the people of Gaza and you wonderful people for telling the truth day in and day out. Nobody in English is breaking down the realities on the ground like you do.
*Greetings from Andalucía where later this year we have elections to the European Union Parliament. I will be watching the candidates and those for an end to the genocide will get my vote.*
@@liveontheverandah If Egypt, or any other country, air dropped help, Israel would consider it a violation of their air space and an act of war. They have threatened in the past to unleash their nukes of they feel they are losing their wars. Unfortunately, I don't see a positive outcome . The Israeli leadership has become completely unhinged and are openly talking about moving the Palestinians out of Palestine and "off the earth", which has been the aim of Zionism right from the beginning. The American administration shows no signs of seriously attempting to reign them in - even though Biden is losing support among voters because of this catastrophe. They seem to think voters will forget about it by the time the election rolls around. They don't seem to care that they stand a good chance of losing to an openly fascist Republican party.
I'm a decades old fan of EI, from back when I just received your emails, although I am more of an individualist libertarian. But I could definitely listen to your conversations with Helena Cobban for hours and hours. So I just searched for her books and ordered her history of the PLO. I'm assuming it has plenty of information on Yassir Arafat. I have been unable to find a biography of him from any perspective! Anyway, I appreciate how well you are all able to get through each podcast without outbursts of tears and anger. But I feel it nonetheless. Thanks for all you do!
simply a continuation of the ongoing demonization of palestinians and by extension all colonized people fighting for liberation. i wasn’t around for the media blitz around the PLO but i hear it was very similar!
My deepest condolences to Ahmed and his family. When I saw his post on Twitter about his brother's suffering and death I was deeply shaken. I am so sorry, Ahmed! May your brother rest in peace 🕯️💚🙏
I’m a recent follower. Found your channel searching for interviews with analysts I’d found credible elsewhere. You’ve earned trust & follows through the great m care you take to report accurately; openly reference your sources, and differentiate honestly between facts & opinions/ unsubstantiated reports. As far as I’m concerned, trust is earned -continuously. I would have been the last person to take to “social media” for news, but the mainstream channels just dug their own graves. Commercial media has always been a joke, but now even the mainstream outlets that used to be pretty neutral have sold out. Another precious thing left to rot under the rubble of Gaza. (I’m in Australia, where our nationally funded broadcaster just got caught sacking a Palestinian journo for sharing facts!) Anyway, I agree, let ‘em talk trash. Given how fast the quality of their reporting has gone down the toilet, naming EI may just bring more disgruntled readers across!
I’m shocked at the amount of vehicles that are about to be buried, of course they should have an investigation. 😳 I assume we can count every car in one picture, and it’s also a fair assumption that each car had one driver, I look forward to reading Asa’s article.
Thanks and Love u EI , Jon and Ali are excellent as always, what an informative analysis by Helena Cobban, looking forward to hear more Long live Resistance, Free Palestine 🇵🇸❤️
thankyou for your courageous and genuine serious reporting on the real facts on the ground in Gaza and Israel as well as policy towards the same. Its so necessary in a world run by corporate media that is driven by a certain lobby's interest. the world needs your and other such alternative genuine media and journalism in a world of half truths and deflecting "reporting" that never once gets it right
I’m with Jon. I was a child in the sixties and I think that the Viet Cong was highly respected by everyone for both their tenacity and their ability to fight with limited resources. It wasn’t that that hurt morale, it was the deaths, imo. Whatever the case, I am generally bewildered by Israel in so many ways.
Thank you Asa for those clear words about October 7th and debunking the lies that the resistance targeted civilians or that it was a massacre rather then a strategic, skillful and well planned military operation!
I'm your new subscriber I'm unemployed now but I'm starting a new job next month. I can't wait to become a full member at The Electronic Intifada news. They can't silence the truth thank you guys for your amazing work.❤️🙏🇸🇴🇨🇦
I second this. It would be great if you could timestamp the different sections. A 2 hour video is a bit too much to wade through on a regular basis. Thanks. And thank you all for your work on this conflict. It has been exceptional - my go-to reference now for all news related to this conflict.
They separate the videos the day after the livestream so you can watch the individual segments. I'm catching up on the full podcast now, but I ate dessert first this morning with Jon's segment of jellybeans 🍉
Would writing a letter to the Washington Post highlighting the outlandish and false statements help; or even if it doesn't make a difference, is it still a good idea? I subscribe to the WaPo, but I don't always read it much lately because I am too busy reading news about Gaza from alternative sources. I am donating now. Sorry it couldn't be more, but I live on Social Security. Thank you for all your hard work!
It won't probably make any difference at all, they are slaves of their owners and publicity customers, as well as to the secret services, but a big wave of protest letters always hurts. So give it a try because why not? It's like the trial for genocide at The Hague: it won't almost certainly go anywhere (it's a kangaroo court of NATOstan) but it does cause discussion and shame anyhow.
"at least 70" They're really making that phrase do a lot of work. Honestly, how many cars do you think Hamas could have destroyed given that they were carrying a few RPGs and ak-47s?
Thank you guys, the Palestinian genocide deniers they start talking first about the holocaust and the 6 million jews died as a result, I think what they are trying to do is to establish a standard number so they can start talking about genocide, for this reason it's not surprising that US officials don't see any sign of genocide. On the other hand, maybe the Palestinian resistance could use the strategies of its enemy in its favor, the Hannibal directive (the killing of their own people to avoid prisoner exchange) and the Dahiya doctrine (the destruction of civilian infrastructure to put pressure on the enemy). Since Jon says the tunnels also run under Israel territory what if the Al Qassam brigades and the Islamic Jihad start to appear in some Israeli cities, destroy the water and energy systems, take hostages and control the hospitals, schools, churches, etc... not all at once but one at the time, the rest will be the job of the IDF, to destroy their own infrastructure and kill their own people, like raccoons killing racoons, their population will be leaving the cities, this move will divert the IDF from Gaza stopping the genocide.

Wow, that WaPo article is a whopper. EI has always well sourced its coverage, did she not even check them? That’s disturbing. Her assertions have no basis.
thanks for the update guys :) unfort i slept thru live again stupid sleep paterns ps. i never bought the H demonizations as u might be able to tell from my decades old name :P
Nasser hospital tragedy, what next for the pleasure of the Israelis? Narcissistic crual perversion with dementia in full display, a repeat of the same events of 1936 to 1949. Terrorism against British forces, murder of Count Bernadote, mass expulsion of a million of Palestinians, confiscation of homes, lands, over 52 massacres in different villages in the same barbaric way as Deir Yassin...no one moved the least finger at that far away epoch. We are equally numb to human suffering now as the West was in 1948.
Sometimes it makes you so angry that at last people are realising what the Palestinians have endured for so long. I’m in my seventies and have followed and supported the Palestinians all my life, so do most of my family, I’m half Arab Yemeni/Irish/Scottish/ English. My dad was a Muslim and my mum was a Catholic. Both believed in the same God, but weren’t that religious, I was brought up as a Catholic, now lapsed. My dad emigrated to the UK in the 1930s, served in the merchant navy, mostly on the convoys in the Atlantic. So many people have a diverse background and no one can really know how people feel about this to me, Genocide. I feel that people, Americans especially have been shocked at the brutality of the Israelis, I’ve seen this brutality reported in the British media many years ago, sadly the British media has dumbed down and doesn’t have the brave reporters like John Pilger (Australian) telling us what is happening in Gaza/WestBank. Thankfully we do have social media and some fantastic journalists like EI, Grayzone, Secular Talk, Chris Hedges. I feel that people who want to know the truth about Gaza/West Bank only have Al Jazeera, which is a brilliant news channel and has some really brave journalists, sadly some have been targeted and murdered by the IDF. It’s good that people are educating themselves about the history of the region and not being biased, many Americans are furious and feel they have been lied to for decades about the Israelis being the ‘good guys’ it’s really heartwarming to see so many people now understand the Palestinians suffering. This has got to be good for the world, I just wish the leaders of countries like the USA, UK, Canada, Australia, the European Union would listen to their people and not the Israeli/Jewish lobby. Looking at the millions of people marching and protesting against the war in Gaza, lifts my heart. I have to hope that the ICJ goes in the South Africans favour, it may not change things, but what it will do is shame Israel, and knowing Israelis personally they are so arrogant, with a sense of entitlement that they certainly won’t like the title of being a country that has been found to be committing Genocide, atrocities. Fingers crossed for tomorrow.
1:47:00 One worthwhile question that comes to mind in the context of all the video footage the Israeli military is putting out there, particularly these repulsive Tiktok videos of people dressing up like dinosaurs and dancing around like dickheads as they destroy people's neighbourhoods, is: How is this being received by the target audience? Given that Israel has strict military censorship, it seems reasonable to assume that the reason these soldiers are allowed to take their mobiles out into an AO (which I had always understood to be frowned upon for many reasons) and film their antics is that the military censor's office has decided that they want this footage to be out there; that decision, in turn, would likely be based on some assessment that this is the sort of footage that will convince their target audience - the broad Israeli Jewish public - that this genocide is going well and should be seen through to the end. Meanwhile, it's the exact sort of footage other mass-murderous regimes (say, the US) are generally at pains to keep OUT of the public eye, since it interferes with the standard script of 'serious, well-trained young people fighting efficiently and bravely against an evil enemy' that is at the heart of most war propaganda. Is there any published polling on the audience response to this stuff?
Looks like my subscription to WaPo needs to be cancelled, as the NYT was. So tired of this mainstream and social media manipulation and disinformation.
I'll be canceling my Washington Post subscription - thanks for shedding much needed light on this smear campaign - keep up the great journalism!
I cancelled mine along with NY times!
