you have to let us meet your mum someday she seems like a wonderful person to have brought you up to be so awesome ! thank you for being such an inspiration BIG hello from the south of Poland - i grew up in Australia so you accent is music to mu soul :D 👽💜👽
Whaaaaaat. I was weeding earlier thinking it's such a shame that all of nature's energy is going to waste as I pick each weed. If only we could eat them.... And here we are!
We bought this book while everyone was panic buying at the supermarkets, we figured we'd just see out corona virus living off the weeds in our backyard.
Hi! I thought I watched a video of you earlier last year and you’re giving a little garden tour and you were showing how you grew diagonally on the incline. I was hoping to see that video today as I am going to be prepping a same situation! Hope you and your little family are great. Love the videos love the content love the energy!
Loving these videos Hannah. Love your positive outlook and attitude. I have had that book for a couple of years now. FANTASTIC book!!! A must have. It will blow you away what you would have probably seen every day and not known it was edible. Let alone extremely nutritious. Dandelion and stinging nettles. AMAZING plants!!!
Hannah, I love your videos. Love your joy & smiles. This is great content. After watching you mention straw bale gardening in an another video, I ordered some bales & spent the weekend happily creating a straw bale garden. It looks amazing & kept me occupied during lock down. Thanks for all your ideas. So inspirational. You mentioned other weeds that you can eat. Can you do a video on them too? xVanessa
Awesome for sharing... I am from an indigenous community in India and we forage daily and is part of our diet. There are a lot more of different kinds of wild edibles that we forage.
Lovely! I have lots of dandelions in my garden. Love to pick the fresh leaves to add in my salads. I never pick the flowers because they are very important source of food for the bees. Critical for their survival in early Spring. Happy gardening! Love your channel!
I buy dandelion tea (good for health issues, in limited amounts), seeing this video, I couldn't believe how easy it is to make your own, or that you could eat fresh leaves, etc. Thx for sharing great info & advice on a range of topics, love your videos!
What is interesting to notice is that each country will have their own native edible weeds, but most weeds are "globalized" LOL Here in Brazil two amazing authors released a book about them a few years back, and it's become the edible weed bible. There's so much we can eat, that if you have that knowledge, you'll never be hungry! It's also very important to know how to recognise and tell apart edible and toxic weeds... There are not many very super toxic and dangerous weeds looking like edible ones, but some require very specific prep to avoid intoxication (some can't be eaten raw, only blanched or somewhat cooked). A great example is Taro (Colocasia esculenta ) and a pant we call 'Taioba (Xanthosoma sagittifolium)'. They have veeeery similar leaves, but Taioba's are edible, and Taro's are toxic. Both grow mostly together here, being plants that like shade and moist soil... anyway, we should know well what we`re eating, right? Not only regarding weeds, but anything pretty much!
Sooo delicious and healthy. Happy video as always put me good mood! I love eating dandelions with wood sorrel and my sweet potato leaves! Cool end music !
I remember harvesting dandelions in the South of France with my grandma and aunties on their farm when I was a kid. We used to eat them all the time in salads...
Wow, I'm inspired to eat dandelions instead of just composting them. I've already tried purslane, but please, please more vids on eating weeds! Thank you!
Awesome Hannah how can you get downvoted your accent sounds cool at first I thought Kiwi but I heard you say you were born over there~ You may break a 47 year old drought and get me having more than the initial yeah nah. My wife drank this as an alternative during pregnancy success! Were picking red russian kale and chard greens almost daily and have been since that moment ten years ago when I first planted the seeds here in Christchurch great crops to seed and self seed. I think the leaves on the dandelion are sweeter if they haven't flowered. These days we may also during lemon verbena or sage or Kawakawa which sadly the frost nearly decimated 🙂 or even hibiscus of which I have the striking white with crimson centre semi hardy I'm yet to detect much of a taste with this but it has its merits great seeing you thankyou
Thanks dear Hannah , what was the name of the author again please ?! Phone specks not picking up voices fine detail' s missed. Love your energy & efficiency way of gardening . Did you guy's know dandelion root great for lung health. Dandelion tea Add little local honey and slice of lemon yummy . Kind regards Swift . Keep smiling see how far your precious hearts smile can travel throughout virtual world. :--)
You can't fool me with your cheer & your happy smile Hannah, I already discovered the hard way what dandelion leaves taste like lol. My Nana made dandelion wine for years & I figured they mustn't taste too bad if there's so many commercial brands of dandelion tea in the shops, too. I watched Sergei Butenko's 45min film on edible weed identification & listened when he talked about meristems & how younger leaves & stems are much milder in flavour. My baby leaf tasted just like bile - yes, the green stuff from your liver, so I can't imagine how that mature leaf of yours tasted 🤢. Thankfully the freezer is full, cos It's going to be a long while before I'm game to do that again. Think it'd be safer to chat to the local elders about learning the bush tucker way.
I used to think I had lots of dandelions, until I found out they have single flower heads, and the plants in my yard had multiple flowers on each stalk. I have a true dandelion in a pot but from what I have read they don’t grow well in the subtropics so I may never have enough for a cuppa! Cheers
Love u guys. Getting into the permaculture way of living and want to come retire in Hobart. Just got our next lots of seeds from Southern Harvest, and thought we might try the moon planting idea😊🌞🌺
Weeds are so under-appreciated, one of my favourites is the common mallow. It grows everywhere in Melbourne, We make a dish called Khobiza ( Palestinian ). So nutritious and very yummy.
thanks so much for sharing this information! I'm new to your channel (just found you on Insta!) and just wanted to say congratulations on getting your RUclips going so strong - the videos are looking great! :)
The herbal drugstore is a book that I have that sounds similar to your book!... I need to read it more. Definitely interesting regarding natural health remedies
I was really inspired as we have so many dandelions in our garden. The roots are still quite small and super hard to clean. Would you wait a little longer and give them time to grow a bit bigger?
I'm liking the hot pink hair too...where is the hubby though? Please feature more, you 2 are so entertaining together. (Well done on filming that's obviously important too!)
Hi there. I live in Northern Nsw close to qld boarder so tropical temps. I orginate from NZ and dandylions have thick tubular stems... here they seem to have skinny dry wiry stems is this same plant or an imposter?
As a child I used to collect all the wild flowers for tea. Now I finally have my own house and garden, so I am planting anything I remember back from my childhood. With dandelion I would only collect the flowers, so how do you deal with that milk coming out of the end of the leaf in a salad or when you put it into the smoothie. I thought it's not good.
Such a great vid, thanks Hannah! I will never look at a dandelion the same way again. We live in England and there’s some in the field next door so tomorrow I’m going out to dig some up for a mug of tea. Annie also wrote a fab book called The Art of Frugal Hedonism. Check it out. Please keep the vids coming, we absolutely love them!

Nailed it again Hannah! And thanks to your Mum for raising you with a belly full of weeds :)
G'day from Brisbane Hannah, another great video! Thank you. You have so much knowledge and enthusiasm, it's infectious!👍👍👍
Dandelion magic. Mother earth wisdom. Treasure those weeds.

I pick the flowers when they are fading, and likewise only pull up the plant when it has seeded. So much fun 'helping disperse the seeds'.
Loved this episode! Thank you. Learnt a lot!

@@GoodLifePermaculture
Oh wow awesome thank you!
I didn't even think you could ingest comfrey
I thought it was only a garden beneficial
I'm liking the hot pink hair too...where is the hubby though? Please feature more, you 2 are so entertaining together.
(Well done on filming that's obviously important too!)
Wow, wonderful personality 🤗
This is so cool! Could you use a dehydrator instead of the oven for the root??
Yup :-)
Hi there. I live in Northern Nsw close to qld boarder so tropical temps. I orginate from NZ and dandylions have thick tubular stems... here they seem to have skinny dry wiry stems is this same plant or an imposter?
I am really lost on how to plan my back yard foodscape on a medium size block in Gladstone Qld. Can you please do a planning guide?
Will add it to the list :-)
I love this!! What are we allowed to do/forage with respects to our indigenous friends? Are weeds okay to take?
Here it's an introduced species and literally considered a weed so we harvest freely. But check where you are :-)
War time “coffee” :)
I remember the leaves , we used to eat them in Africa
As a child I used to collect all the wild flowers for tea. Now I finally have my own house and garden, so I am planting anything I remember back from my childhood. With dandelion I would only collect the flowers, so how do you deal with that milk coming out of the end of the leaf in a salad or when you put it into the smoothie. I thought it's not good.
IT's no problem at all :-)
