does traditional judo incorporate leglocks? My first BJJ school, they didn't go over leglocks right away. I remember going against someone well versed in them and I was caught over and over - I just didn't know what to do at the time - I wonder if that's the case here?
Yes, but they were banned in 1899. Sometimes at my dojo someone who has learned them from somewhere else, or someone who doesn't have much rank will try to use them. I just look at them and go....are we going to go down this road...and they let go. However, we still, at least at my dojo train in escaping from them. We had a visiting BJJ female blue belt who tried to do them and was being rough. The Black Belt she was working with wasn't too keen on it and he did it back and she didn't return because she walked out limping. Which is the point of not doing them...they are dangerous and we grapple with the idea that everyone has to go to work tomorrow.
@Huy Nguyen sambo took majority of it's inspiration from catch wrestling not judo, that is why sambo often looks very harsh as compared to judo that has always tried to be soft and "technical"
You can tell by how they stand which one is which. Most BJJ practitioners, especially ones that compete have their hips back, similar to a wrestlers stance. I practice BJJ and I don’t do that because 1) I hate wrestling, I literally suck at wrestling techniques. 2) in Judo, you just need a good base, your hips don’t necessarily have to be back that f***ing far. 3) I feel like whenever my hips are that far I’m way too exposed. 4) If I make a habit in doing that and I get into a fight I’m 100% screwed. That’s one of the main reasons why I don’t practice sport BJJ.
if knee hooks are ALLOWED in Judo , then it's NOT judo ... but i'd say if you know Judo's takedowns and you are somewhat decent in Ju Jutsu (ju jutsu is right form, not jiu jitsu).. then Sambo Master is hopeless towards you .
The blackbelt let say 6 years in Judo and Sambist in 6 years too in Combat and Sport Sambo. Under Sambo ruleset which we can see he is using leg locks (you dont train that in Judo). So Sambo wins. Under IJF? Judo wins... Since Judo now are watered down due to ruleset.

No leg locks in Judo ruleset, this must be using Kosen or Sambo Ruleset
Throwing a heel hook or a ankle lock on a pure judoka isn’t anything to brag about. Especially since that’s not allowed in judo.
So there’s that.
Well that's the meta in high level grappling right no so it's like when judo banned wrestling takedowns it's not good for their sport
When it comes to these sort of things it's really the practitioner and not the art, but to me they both looked like BJJ.
