Have plenty experience in the new england freshwater, but really looking to follow my heart in the saltwater scene up here since that's what we do mostly in FL. I'm embarrassed to say that although I've lived and worked in midcoast Maine since 1978, this is my first visit to the Mainely Outdoors channel. It certainly won't be my last! This was terrific, in every respect. Like you, my brother is my favorite fishing partner, and John was a great addition to this segment. Hope he'll be a regular!
As you know, harbor pollock are a much overlooked quarry here in Maine. They're surprisingly scrappy on light tackle and a single chrome "spoon" (like a Kastmaster) and--as you and John demonstrated perfectly--they make DELICIOUS eating.
    Keep up the great work.

Hey Jesse, I've been fishing the coastal waters of Maine since 2019. Just latched onto your channel and now a subscriber. Pollock is a great fish to eat, lot's of fast food restaurants use Pollock because of its good/ mild taste. I saw that part in your video where you fillet the Pollock and saw the blood in the meat. I looked briefly thru all of the 184 comments in the video to date and didn't see anybody recommending to bleed the fish. It makes a big difference especailly in Stripers and I recommended bleeding a fish to my fishing friends. and they all now say bleeding any fish makes a big difference. Getting the blood out of the meat takes the game taste out of any fish. You got to try it some time if you haven't done so already. I actually made a video where you can see the amount of blood that comes out of a Striper. Love your video with you showing Maine as a great place to get out and have fun.

@@silasderoma4726 personally I love using a fast full sink line on a 6/7wt. I usually go with a 6ips or 4 ips. As far as flies, anything flashy like clouser minnow, ep baitfish patterns,, muddler minnows tied in black and white on saltwater hooks, even topwater in the right situation like a gurgler or small popper. I will say this, get yourself a stripping basket it will save you a lot of headaches with waves, rocks and other things.

Great video! Hey what is the difference between the pollack you caught on the video and the Atlantic Pollack that are caught deep sea fishing?

I think this fishing is similar to that of Scotland or northeast England, apart from it's a lot shallower in some spots and I always catch less fish

Another great video. How were you going to cook the mackerel if you didn't switch to the pollacks? #hats

I'd like to get one of your hats, but I only wear all cloth fabric ball caps with my buzzed cut head. Much more comfortable than plastic mesh trucker hats. If you ever offer an all cloth version, I wouldn't hesitate to get one.

I'm curious what we could catch throughout the winter. Like Dec through March. What areas to target and baits. I'm extremely interested in winter flounder but anything that bites and is edible. Thoughts?
