Encore
Call Of The Canyon 01:06:45
lineup : Julian Lage (guitare), Jorge Roeder (basse), Joey Baron (batterie)
Joey Baron brings so much to any ensemble he is part of
🤩😘
Some of the most musical drumming I’ve ever heard!
Absolutely. Seen him with Bill Frisell many times and an appearance in Seattle as part of Steve Kuhn’s trio (with Buster Williams) was sublime. Check out his work with Jakob Bro as well. Joey’s the real deal.
What a pick up..
A perfect match and inspiration for Julian.
Julian is not only technically gifted, but more importantly, he always tells a story that takes the listener with him. That's what makes him so special. There are enough virtuoso guitarists out there already.
Yes. Thank you.
You stole that from a Metheny interview. Lol. I agree though
@@guitargentmick-tv8424 I posted a similar text under an interview with Metheny about Montgomery. And yes, I learn everything from the masters of jazz. For over 60 years. Stealing is not included. Metheny builds on Wes.
I was at this concert, and during it, live, heard multiple times the best sounds I've ever heard
That Emily outro -- pure magic. I've already listened to it 100 times ❤, with hundreds more to come....
Same brother. He’s so in the moment it’s infectious. I must be in the 20s already for the day and age outro.
Three immensely talented humans sharing their souls in real time. This hit me right in the feels, bringing much-needed happy tears. As much as I love Dave King's drumming, this cat does it with a playful, dynamic style that feels more fun to me. More!
A magnificent gig. And it's great to see Julian finally hooked up with Joey Baron--a perfect match.
Scary Good, especially the last few minutes of Day and Age!!! I saw JL in Durham NC this summer playing acoustic and solely accompanied by his bassist. Outstanding, but my sightlines were poor. GA on the floor. Next time, I want to see him playing electric in a trio with actual sightlines.
These guys are just fantastic. Hope to see them live some day.
Just saw them at Jazzaldia, San Sebastian. What a treat. Plus Bill Frisell !!
I absolutely love this version of whatever you say Henry, the sped up tempo and drum beat go hard
Also chiming in. :-)
(Just to make it easier 😀 - I know Julian mentions these)
1. 00:43 Island Blues
2. 13:30 Emily
3. 24:35 Whatever You Say Henry
Thanks for putting this up. Wonderful, wonderful stuff.
Este trio rompe esquemas, así como de repente la estructura de la melodía de manera genial. Es fabuloso verlos. Saludos desde Guanajuato
Man this is some of the best trio playing I’ve heard in years. Thanks for recording it.
Hi Ricardo. Thanks for commenting, and for your amazing channel. Hope to see you play in Paris one day.
Oh man! Thanks so much, honored you took the time to check it out, I hope so too!@@ebjazz93
Pure Joy for the ears and the soul! Thanks from Italy!
This is the best combo that Julian Lage has had till now.
Last night's show at the Village Vanguard with the legendary Billy Hart wasn't too shabby. Just sayin'.
That would mean doing a great injustice to Dave King, who is one of the most original and musical drummers out there.
@@HenkRijks This is my musical taste. there was no intention to diminish anyone, including Dave King, who is one of the most original and musical drummers out there.
@@YarivGurfinkel It wasn't my intention to criticize you. To each his own, and luckily different folks have different tastes.
@@HenkRijksSeeing him with Dave King was incredible - I feel so lucky to have experienced it. Kind almost stole the show at times!
Astounding music. Astounding playing.
Wow very nice and creative and melodic jazz guitar playing. I love how these guys interact.
Безумие и гениальность всегда рядом. Что это?
Thank you.
The encore WOW U3 XXX !!!
I can’t wait to too see them. Love from Spokane, WA❤
One word, ILOVEIT
So grateful to you for sharing this! I've never had the chance to see Julian in such a small venue. Totally different experience.
Impro at a high level! To do this you have to balance swing with adventure.
Combining rock lines with Jazz lines make it easy to get inside this lively playful music.
thank you!
Glad this was filmed! Just saw him in NYC last Tuesday at the Village Vanguard. Hustled back from a business trip in Wisconsin, was 15 minutes late but was determined to make it. The set was so good, it almost hurt. He's a national treasure.
Hear here! Saw the run's finale last night (Sunday late show). Just an amazing set with Julian's story telling beyond reproach. Let's not forget how great a jazz drummer Billy Hart is. God, what a great night of music it was as he reprised 'Emily' as well as 'I'll Be Seeing You'. Coupled with the beautiful weather, I'm still flying. Now, onto to seeing Bill Frisell at the VV next week.
@@thaddeusk4230 I was not familiar with Billy coming into it, but I play squash with another drummer who knows him. He made a point of telling me how great Billy was. He had a cheeky look throughout the show. It's always amazing to see how much listening is involved on the part of each of the players. I have a slight preference for Kenny, only because I've seen him in so many videos online with Julian, but Billy was absolutely a treat.
Also, I have to say the VV crowd was amazing. So much respect for the players, you could have heard a pin drop during each song, except for brief applause after some of the solos or a couple of gasps of disbelief after some of the little nuggets Julian threw in. ZERO conversation, though. Having been to quite a few concerts where people are holding loud conversations while the lead from the band is interacting with the crowd, or during quieter moments during songs, this was a refreshing change.
Going to see him in Albany on 9/15, are you going, Thaddeus?
Nice! I saw Julian at the Vanguard last Friday night, it was terrific. I’m also gonna see Frisell there too, maybe we’ll run into each other…
Fantastic. Thanks so much for sharing this
Merci/thank you
thanks for the upload. I was there that night! incredible!
THANK YOU 4 UPLOADING THIS
Thank you so much
Thanks so much for sharing this!
Merci.
beautifully played...
This whole set is outrageous
word
WHHAAAAAATTTT ????
You filmed the whole Julian Lage concert ???? I wish I could be there
Thank You so much ❤❤❤
I hear Julian say "welcome to set two" so it's half the concert? Nevertheless: pure gold, grateful to find it here
It is the whole show. There were two shows on this day.
4:25 nice lick
Yeah, Joey swings more than the others, make Julian lay to it. Love Dave King, what he brings, but this is special, dynamics are great,
C'mon YT I'm supposed to work and this just makes it impossible to do anything other than listen.... there's so much going on per compass that I could just be all day listening.,
Just chiming' in:
4. 38:45 - Lullaby
5. 43:06 - Day and Age
6. 53:29 - I'll Be Seeing You
7. 01:06:45 - Call Of The Canyon
Thanks for completing. 👍
😁
29:25 Being the shape of a sphere, Christie should know that it'd be much easier to go 1/4 the way around the world in the opposite direction rather than 3/4 to get to the same geographic location.
so when he travels to Europe, he takes his tele.
What was the first set like?
These are two different concerts, with different audience. I only attended the second.
The first set was fantastic too, especially "Song for the road", a new song that is absolutely breathtaking, so beautiful it makes you cry (I wasn't the only one...).
@@adrien1375 I hope it will appear on yt
here is the first gig ruclips.net/p/PLgBAh76M7wxtFF1YYkJZm4FWGJxcUD8bj
I was to see this very gig that I missed. Julian sounds like a guitar Keith Jarrett ! 😮
so what?
Feels like they are winging it at times. I dunno - what am I missing here?
Welcome to jazz heheh
i dont like p90 for jazz
It's not p90 , it's a dynosonic
If Justin Trudeau had talent...
Jazz drummers always look like they are morphing into spiders.
wow.....new trio :)
5 is i'll be seeing you
Thanks mister, appreciated
