  • A person in Texas is being treated for avian influenza (bird flu), according to a report from state officials. The deadly virus has sickened dairy cows in five states in recent weeks. This marks the first known instance globally of a person catching the H5N1 strain of bird flu from a mammal and just the second human case of the illness in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). An individual who had contact with infected poultry caught the virus in 2022.
Dean Blumberg, chief of pediatric infectious diseases at UC Davis Health, answers questions about what you need to know about bird flu.

I was watching the spread of H5N1 transmission from 15 years ago. The report went on to say that in China there was human to human transmission. It wasn't prevalent enough to meet the third requirement for a would wide pandamic. Only an epidemic. There was no spread in the wild birds within the north and south American continents. The pattern for human to human transmission is there. The step has been taken. If it did take off in humans the projectile at that time at least, was that it would become less virulent as transmission progresses.

I have studied stage 5 viruses for decades now. Especially the 1918 flu and how bad it was. It is about 10 times worse than our common flues. I hope this is not the Avian Flue that we had back then.
