I examined recently how often I'm thinking about my appearance and clothing....then I now realize what a shallow thing to have take up so much time in my head. I am replacing any fashion or style youtube channels with learning channels, intellectual videos and things that inspire growth in more sustainable less shallow subjects. Life is too short to let superficial things take up space in my head or home.
Hmm I understand where you are coming from, but style can be a creative outlet too! Like you’re the canvass and take joy in styling and combining things in creative ways etc (not always shopping but styling using what you have) there is value in beauty, that is the value in art and music 🤷🏻♀️ if it genuinely brings you joy and creativity, don’t feel like you are not allowed to think about it
@@szfrj I do love getting dressed for that reason, but I've been someone who obsesses about it too much so I'm working on finding a balance. I need other more interesting things in my life and a break in my spending.
"Life is too short to let superficial things take up space in my head or home." - I love this! I've been re-reading "Essentialism" and it hits differently this time around, maybe because I now realize how a lot of things are non-essential, especially when it comes to clothes (like, why do I need so many jackets 😅). I'm excited for you and this new journey you are on!
When your no buy year is over, you could have a dedicated debit card for "fun" shopping that holds your allowance for the month. That's what I do. Sometimes I have to wait and save up a couple months for something. It definitely helps me question my purchases!
I love how you use the time with your daughter now. The issue with sustainable brands is how they are not size inclusive. I'm 4'11" and most sustainable brands are not even close to fitting me properly. I would love to see more inclusivity from them. Right now they focus on the average body.
I need to say this, I failed my no buy so badly. I'm trying to figure out why! Currently, feeling mad at myself and super frustrated but I hope to soon recover and try to do it again at some point :). This is such an honest and helpful video, thank you!
Thank you for sharing! I hope that you are feeling a little better today. I don't know if this will help but try looking at it from a different perspective...instead of thinking of it as failing your no buy, think of how many days you succeeded in not buying things...progress over perfection 💕
Thank you for the inspiration! I am making huge changes in my buying habits. I changed jobs from one where I wore scrubs to one where I wear business casual. That coupled with a 60 pound weight loss meant I needed to build a new wardrobe. I was stunned at how fast my buying got out of control. I wasn't developing a personal style. I was buying what I thought would fit in with my coworkers. Big mistake! Now I have decluttered my closet down to the things I actually wear and some of those things will not make it through the next round. I am more aware of how and why I shop now. I may not be ready for a no buy year, but I am more than ready for a life that is not centered around my cart. Thank you for sharing your journey and helping others like me.
Thank you for sharing...It sounds like you've had a lot of life changes lately which warranted some new purchases! And it's so awesome that you were able to reign in your shopping and figure out what really worked for you 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I can relate to you. I am struggling buying to fill voids. It started after my first son was born and continues. I’ve tried no buy weeks which work but after 2-3 weeks I always cave. It’s been tough figuring it out. Motherhood and changing sizes has made it harder. Your story and tips seem practical and I’m glad I found your channel. Thank you for sharing!
Congratulations on completing those 2-3 weeks! That isn't insignificant...that's progress. You tried something and you succeeded and maybe the next time you try, you'll succeed a little more.
Early. I “did” a low buy year last year but I failed miserably. Now I’m just working on stopping overshopping. 🤷🏼♀️ I think this is a really good video.
Thankyou for your time creating this content. You have brought up many valid points. Your honesty, without drama have really resonated with me. Have a wonderful day being the beautiful authentic unique person you are. ❤
👋🇩🇰 love your story, so inspiring! l’ve had a history of sentimental clinging to all my stuff, not just clothes my entire life! The no buy year that initiated my decluttering journey 4 years ago helped so much breaking that habit and be present and able to see what l already got, shop all my belongings and clothes and inspire versatility 😅🙌 love my life so much more now!
Your feed truly inspire my Journey as a textile designer ! So many challenges to create in a way that it’s sustainable, meaningful and accessible… have a great day ✨✨✨🌸
Ohhh I loved this video. So inspiring. I also loved the idea of saving to buy what is of real importance and appreciating where/how a product is made. I've been watching Lena Norms lately, she touches alot on the same topic. Just thought you might enjoy her too 🤗🥰
This is my favourite video you have made so far. You are inspiring me to sort my shopping out and do my own no buy. Journaling is something I have found tricky to get into but your recommendation is making me rethink. Did you use prompts at all to help you journal?
I'm so glad that you enjoyed it! I didn't use any prompts, but I write "no buy year - day xx" every day and that feels very motivating. Then I write out any thoughts that I have that might be a trigger to shopping. At the beginning, I would write in it whenever I felt the urge to shop, making a few entries each day but now I find that 1 entry every few days is sufficient as the desire to shop has lessened.
oh my god im so full of myself. no one is on my radar is looking at me for outfit inspo. who am i shopping for, i cant impress anyone, i just let fashion leave me behind 😭😭
