Airbenders using their bending to be able to yell louder than anybody else is the most random power that nobody talks about. Aang did it all the time, and his grandkids really took after him.
When homeboy at the end starts monologing about Guru Lahima I immediately thought this guy was going to be a problem. But then he starts Airbending and Im like OH SHIIIIIIT!!!!
Zaheer trained in the martial arts that airbending is tied to, so although he was not a bender, he learned all the moves and studied the philosophy and mind set, etc, so when he suddenly got bending, he already knew how to use it. Kind of a pre-trained bender ... or instant bender just add energy or whatever you want to call it. He was a skilled enough martial artist that he was seen as worth to be put in a specialised prison like they would for a powerful bender.
No, this is the introduction of Zaheer. The White Lotus has been showing up the whole series. They aren't as secret as they were in ATLA. They were the ones who searched for, found and trained Korra in Book one.
My first impression on seeing this episode the first time was, "If only Aang could have lived to see this. He would be so happy." And this was even before Tenzin said it.
KORRA speech TO THE BRIDGE JUMPER really showcases how much she has grown - it's one of my favorite scenes in the show. The guy who escaped the prison seem to know a lot about Air Nomad culture even before becoming an air bender himself - that's interesting but the big question is how will he end the Avatar when they just are going to reincarnate ...
In regards to your hopes for this season, all I will say is, you won’t be disappointed. Really excited! And don’t worry, we haven’t met Zaheer until now.
Zaheer's jailers were White Lotus. (Same uniform as Iroh & other White Lotus in ATLA.) As for who he is, that's spoiler material :) Definitely a LOT more from Zaheer in the episodes ahead.
Maybe there are more Airbenders than we were led to believe. After the defeat of Vaatu, things are coming back into balance. Maybe dormant Airbender genes suddenly becoming active because of this? Dunno. Literally watching episodes for the first time right before you upload.
I enjoyed the reacts. I think the fast recovery of Republic City from the occupation hu the North and the Kaiju type battle refers to the recovery of Japan after World War II, for which they are justly proud. Korra has good instincts but has problems with dealing with the government. Everyone has a call but where's Ginger?
You: But is it (people becoming airbenders again) permanent? Me: I really, really tell you! Not being an a-hole; I really do! But you said no spoilers! But it's so hard to keep my stupid mouth shut (so to speak; pun unintended). But it's no spoiler to tell you that some wonderful stories are coming up in any case.
"But maybe there will be enough to fill the Temples again." - That line's a gut puncher.

Tenzin tearing up with joy always gets me

That's a good point about the WW2 recovery. Could be!
korra and general iroh… a couple? you’re joking, right?
Is there a fundamental (non spoiler) problem with that?
You: But is it (people becoming airbenders again) permanent?

Typo: meant to say I *want to* tell you. Sorry for any confusion.
You become more and more beautiful 🌹
