  • We check in on Josh's 60g SPS dominated reef tank after he has been away for Reefapalooza California. What mistakes did Josh make that were avoidable and does he have any regrets?
    Since the first video on this tank, Josh received many questions about the lighting. He walks through each step, and thought process, that he uses for building a custom lighting template using the Mobius app. This is the in-depth reef tank lighting discussion you all have been asking for!

    Hi Josh, got to meet you at RAP Anaheim this year - I was the lady with the list of corals on my phone asking questions -lol. I’m glad that you, as an expert in your field, are sharing this. You are human, just like the rest of us and life happens! This is important for us new reefers so we don’t get discouraged. This is not a causal hobby, it is difficult, but the results are magical.
    When experts and vendors/companies acknowledge that they also make mistakes with their own tanks, it bolsters many of us not to quit in that first or even second year; and understand that this is just a part of taking on this incredible hobby. IMHO.
    And the in-depth walkthrough on lights was so easy to understand!!

    Thanks for the tutorial! I would like to see a video on what all you need to test for when starting a reef tank. You see alot on maintaining one but not starting. Just how to cycle and what to test for during that process.

    Hi Josh. Your videos are always so helpful. I have a question about the difference between the schedule and point intensities. I have never really understood the difference in what they do. Could you explain that for me? Also, I have an innovative marine 25 lagoon. What would be a good start point for these intensities for such a shallow tank?

    • @jdearel1
      @jdearel1 11 месяцев назад +1

      Dropping overall intensities will impact all colors and points unanimously. Changing point intensities will only effect that plot.
      If you need more guidance you will have to provide more equipment info.

    What was the reason that you put the schedule to 100% and scale down the points percentage ?

    • @jdearel1
      @jdearel1 11 месяцев назад +1

      If I were to put the overall at, say 50% that would mean that my blues that I like at 100% would be cut down by that 50% and all other color selections unanimously by the same 50

    What is the least photoperiod i can give? I run 3 1/2 hours of white then the rest blue for total 12 hours.
    What is the least amount of photoperiod i can give. Im struggling with the amount of algae ive got.

    • @jdearel1
      @jdearel1 11 месяцев назад

      In the past I've had to resort to all blue all day in one of the worst cases. But don't forget you can also reduce the intensity of whites and that reds will also grow algae when you are fighting that fight.

    I love the shimmer of an old halide bulb… but love the coral coloration of the old blue actinic fluorescents. We use to could have both at the same time. /sadface
    Now that LED is the thing, I can have both! Hooray for LED! 🎉
    Honestly, if it weren’t for the fish… I’d be blues only.
    Since you’re running the cool white, you could probably go zero on the green (since you don’t like it). The white probably has enough green in it. The whites are just a mixture of all spectrums.

    For the Gen 6 blue model where there is no green channel would you raise any of the whites higher than 10 and 20 to compensate for no green?

    Quick question. So, If I get in a bunch of SPS (stags, etc.) from WWC, what PAR (roughly) should they start at in a persons tank for acclimation for a while before slowing ramping up par / moving the SPS up in the tank? And, how long generally would you leave them at the lower PAR prior to ramping up gradually?

    • @WorldWideCorals
      @WorldWideCorals  Месяц назад

      We would start at the 150 par range

    There is a reason why you switch to B-ionic, AFR is good alk,cal,mg but is to much for trace elements I was dosing AFR and I found out was to much and switched to b-ionic and my corals are more happy them before I dot. Why but there is something in afr this is my opinion 😀

      The top of the tank where the two radions intersect is just about 350 ish I believe that gives me about 200 on the floor. Honestly that's a bit hot but I kind of like it that way.

  • @6jdhd
    @6jdhd 11 месяцев назад +1

    Your sps died most likely because of ph. When your DKH gets that low if ph is around 8.2 to 8.5. 4 to 5 dkh won't phase the coral. I tested this theory. One tank at 4dkh with ph at 8.3 to 8.5. And coral was happy. Other tank same dkh and in a matter of days it started to stn. PH is key when it comes to DKH. And I really believe STN and RTN has to do with low PH.

    • @jdearel1
      @jdearel1 11 месяцев назад +1

      I'm sure it was, I only say alk because that's the cause. The effect was was easily ph related. However, I wasn't intending to adjust ph I was adjusting alk. Either way I should have never let it get to that point

    Hey Josh just curious, why did you switch to bionic?

    • @jdearel1
      @jdearel1 11 месяцев назад +1

      In order to continue use with All for Reef I would need to target calcium and buffer the ALK with a secondary product. Due to the fact that my calcium and magnesium were off the charts. The product isn't really designed for a demanding tank. Two part just seemed the most practical since I have years of seat time with it.

    Why don’t you try this instead instead of everybody trying to find Casper which I think the videos go to certain people faster than others don’t know why but that’s how I feel and from talking other people I feel the same way. Why don’t you pick something easier like this week the 30th person who likes the video Wins tell anybody what the number is you can make it 500 you can make it number five or whoever that number is that washed and light is the winner of the coral pack because I truly believe the video isn’t hitting everybody on RUclips at the same time but I’m probably wrong
