  • This is a quick way to make extra long 2 story curtains easily and with a no sew hack!
I needed extra long curtains but everything I found was custom and super expensive, I needed something that wouldn't break the bank, but also that didn't need to be sewn.
I found Ikeas longest set of curtains (118”) and added a second set (98”) to make the 186” length I needed. I decided to go two toned, but you can do whatever you like! That's what is so awesome about DIY! You will need a super tall ladder, I borrowed a neighbors but I have a Little Giant Multi 26’ in my amazon cart as we speak!
I also wanted to make these SMART curtains and thought this portion isn't as budget friendly. It's super nice to just push a button to open these up! I used The SwitchBot and they have been pretty awesome so far.
    Curtains
I got two sets of each of these to make 4 curtain panels -
    Extra long Pair www.ikea.com/u...
    Beige standard set
    www.ikea.com/u...
    FABRIC HEAT TAPE

Curtain rods - there are different colors make sure they are all the same color
    Extra long Rod - amzn.to/38a6Tcz
    Two Shorter rods - amzn.to/358jr21
I threw away the hardware for the curtain rods and used these instead
    Power pro screws - 1.5” - amzn.to/3rKbTwd

    SMART Curtain Options I used
I got two of these for each side of the curtain Switchbot amzn.to/3hMt0go
AND 1 of these Remote amzn.to/388jxZB
    Ladder
    Little Giant Ladder - amzn.to/2JK7I2i
    SAFTEY
    Madgid glasses - amzn.to/331SFX0
    RZ mask - amzn.to/2PTeB16
    ISOtunes ear protection - amzn.to/3axBW06

I'm looking at my wife right now wondering why she didn't find these curtain bot things. I'm over here opening and closing curtains every day. Then I realized I AM HER CURTAIN BOT. Smh 😡🤯😆 great job by the way, they came out great!

At $99 per bot plus another $19 for the remote, you will probably be glad to be the curtain bot! How hard can it be to move grommets on round metal rods?

Let's say you get two bot and a remote, for a total of $240. That's worth about 9 hours of work on average wage.
Now let's say that you spend 3 minutes daily moving curtains. In one year, that's 18.25 hours. Double the amount.
Let's say you have to take it down to charge it and then put it back up every six months. Even if you spent an hour doing that each time, you still only did 11 hours of work instead of 18.
Plus it is a one time expense. The next year, you already have your bot and you only do couple hours (or way less because that's highly overestimated) of work to charge, instead of 18 hours of moving curtains.

Wow, you are fearless going up such a high ladder. You did a great job but I'd have wanted each curtain wider for a more aesthetic look. I understand that's a lot more work for you though. Having such tall windows means you have great light coming in....fabulous.

Once again I'm impressed by all of you DIYers. You're so creative and so clever. Great job!
Fyi- This is not directly to you but every single video I watch when using brand new drapes or brand new tablecloths...No one irons them! You have to iron your stuff. You ruin the entire look with all the package wrinkles!!

    • @veronicataylor9831
      @veronicataylor9831 3 года назад +3

Ironing curtains is such a waste of time. If you spray them with a little warm water once they’re up the wrinkles will naturally come out. I wash my curtains regularly (mine aren’t as big as these ones in this video thank goodness lol) and I just just let them dry naturally when I hang them up and they’re fry and wrinkle-free in a few hours. Give it a try if you haven’t already!!

    • @nancyhadley1921

Usually the wrinkles in curtains will hang out due to humidity, weight, etc. depends on what the fabric is.

This is a great idea, well executed, love the two tones. Most people will have no idea how crazily expensive custom made curtains are, if you say 15’ they know you can’t buy off the shelf, they’ve got you! After I hang curtains, I steam the fabric to get all the creases out and I pull them mostly open and manually form the pleats I want. I then use clothes pegs half way down and fully down at the base to hold the pleats in place, placing spare fabric or tissue between the pegs and curtain fabric. I weight the base of the curtains with clip on weights so they hang full down to the floor. Leave for a few days, steam where the pegs were if they have left an impression, and the curtains will always return to these neat pleats when you open them. Especially automatically!

And I lengthened at the bottom placing ruffles. What a neat idea and pretty much fool proof to use iron on webbing to attach two curtains to achieve a desired curtain length without the hassle of either hand sewing or getting out the sewing machine! But as I'm a wuss when it comes to height this isn't a project I could undertake, lol. Oh and the smart bot is ingenious, no need to struggle with dragging heavy drapes open and closed each day. Just need to buy extra long cables to plug into the bots with sown in loops to keep it in place . Then charge from the ground hopefully without using a ladder.

We also have 9' and 15' windows throughout the house and have pocket rod curtains. To make it move easier side to side we inserted plastic dowels to copy the rings sliding aspects and carry the material along. I loved the energy you put into the hanging, and I too did not know about the bot thing. Since I was the human bot thingy for the family. Nice job! And my arms thank you.

You did a great job, but I have one suggestion....I think the curtains would hang better if you had ironed the fabric to get the folds out before taping them together. I know ironing the curtains seems like such a daunting task, but it would improve the way they look overall. Another thing that might have been easier than ironing would have been to mist the fabric panels before you attached them together and put them in the dryer for 10 to15 min. The folded lines might have looked less noticeable.

Love the project. Great job. Great idea. But because I'm allergic to lines and creases I would have steamed/ironed out the lines from the packaging. LOL I know. I'm strange.
