One of the longest level crossings in the UK! Maxey is a busy six-track level crossing located in Helpston, near Peterborough. Pedestrians are instructed to cross quickly once the alarms start sounding.
An interesting situation was featured here as I started to cross over, the level crossing activated again whilst I was still walking across. The barriers had to be held whilst I finished crossing over.
Thanks For Watching! Авто/Мото
Nice one Jamie! This happened to me at Maxey before. I ended up in the middle of the crossing so I just carried on. He hangmanned the barrier for me. Put my thumb up at the camera to the signaller. I’m glad these are better than the ones who control the crossings in my area
Thanks 😊 It is definitely one of the more challenging crossings to control given its length. There is also an extended barrier delay of around 10 seconds by default at this crossing.
Great video Jamie!
Very interesting crossing indeed.👍🙂
Thank you 😁
That's happened to me elsewhere, but at much shorter crossings! Quite an alarming situation to be in, kudos to the crossing keeper for noticing you and holding the barriers for long enough. They probably could've got away with keeping them lowered had there not been 5 whole minutes before that HST showed up to be honest. Nice shots nonetheless, despite the low winter sun!
Thank you 😁 Yeah there was a bit of a delay for the HST at the start, which probably prompted raising the crossing to allow the waiting traffic and me to cross.
WOW - how scary was that?😱 Glad you made it to the other side safely though! 😌
Yes, I had to quicken my pace a bit lol
Phew, lucky you!
I think i once came close to having this happen to me (at a normal length crossing, that used to have skirtless barriers, but within the past few years skirts were added (some point between feb 2020 and sep 2023))
Wow that was close
Great Video! At least you didn’t get trapped!😅
Thanks 😎 The CCTV cameras were pointing right at me so I'm sure there was no chance of that happening lol
@@UKLevelCrossingsChannel Yeah 👍🏻
Excellent video as usual 👍
Thank you 😁
Basically don't walk over Maxey Crossing. Happened to me at Waterbeach crossing. Nice video
Thank you - and if you do need to cross, just run across 😉
It happened at Tallington and got hung 💀
Would probably have the sign advising pedestrians to walk on the same side as traffic so that the first closing gate isn't in front of you.
Nice video i bet thats the worst situation to be in
Thanks 😊 I can imagine it might be quite scary for some
Barriers just hangmaned on you when it is lowering, supposed to be double stay
Great video! That has happened to me before!
Thank you 😊 Its happened a couple of times with me, but most of the time I wasn't filming
Just no!My worst nightmare!
I can imagine this would be quite scary for someone who's unfamiliar with the operation of such crossings.
Is it supervised by an someone, realtime ?
Yes, it is monitored in realtime via CCTV when it is being lowered. It is controlled from the nearby signal box at Helpston crossing.
What was the glow circle thingy in this video?
The white ball in the first half of the video is the sun 😊
How far away is it from helpston?
Just under 1 kilometer north of Helpston
Nice, worse if they didn't stop
Thanks 😎 That's highly unlikely to happen here as the CCTV cameras have a good view of the whole crossing
