    The hardware emulation EQs are for the old guys that grew up using that gear and want to carry over that knowledge and experience onto a computer. For the rest of us, it's FabFilter Pro-Q 3. Three cheers!

    Great video! I sure wish Bertom would be more like Reference 2 & Refsend... where you can actually use it on whatever track/source audio you're working on. It uses some type of general broadband signal behind the scenes only. So if I want to see only the "Difference" to an 808 sine wave or vocal I can. However "MTM Reference" is made for Mastering so the resolution is too low for what I want.

    Hi all, what I recently discovered, is that if you put a MID low pass filter and set it on 18khz, and then boost SIDE signal shelf at above 12khz it provides an accurate commercial sound and very cosy stereo image for your ears Try it for yourself!

    Hi,
    I've been following your RUclips channel and blogs for a good while now finding it very informative and very professional.
    I must say I learned a lot from your blogs and videos.
    I run my own studio for few years but still learning and improving my mastering skills.
    I have one question. Hope you find few minutes to answer.
    The question is regarding dynamic EQ in mastering.
    I know it's better to use subtractive dynamic EQ before compression and addictive EQ after compression.
    But my question is about dynamic EQ on high frequencies on sides (to emphasise width), dynamic boost on mid channel to create dynamics on snare/vocals ect. Dynamic EQ on mid channel on low end to tighten low end ect.
    Generally speaking I use a lot of dynamic EQ on sides and mid channel during mastering.
    My question is is it better to use it before or after compression?
    While I understand how to use addictive/subscractive EQ on whole track regarding compression, but what about while using just on sides or just mid channel?
    Before or after compression?
    I'm looking for best results and would like to have some clarification.
    Thank you so much for your help and time.
    Lucas

      @sageaudio  3 года назад +1

      That's awesome! Glad to hear that you've been learning from our videos and blog posts for a while!
      As for you question - you could do both! You can place an EQ before and after the compressor, the one before is dynamic subtractive, the one after is dynamic additive.
      If you put the additive EQ before compression, you'll emphasize those frequencies before the compression - which may not sound bad, but will cause more compression to occur.
      Thanks for watching!

    Nice Video... Could you make one that shows how to remove the "Digital" sound of a song, frequencies that had that kinda of "MP3 Compressed" sound. I'm fixing some old songs that can't find elsewhere. Thanks

    • @phnxjordan
      @phnxjordan 3 года назад

      I had a problem with digital sound and what helped my songs get a better tone was a tape saturation plugin

    • @rumar4u
      @rumar4u 3 года назад +1

      @@phnxjordan There are different frequencies and trust me... I have over 20 different Saturation plugins, from Tape, Tube, Transistor, Vinyl, Alloy, Nickel, Clips... you name it. But there are songs that aren't Lossless and have that lossy frequencies (kinda like inside a metal can) that sounds like a 96 kbps MP3 which no saturation plugin can correct. Very noticeable when using M/S in the Side field.

    Hey sage audio, I just have a quick question. Are the functions & doings of 'DS1-MK3' is kinda' similar to 'Limiter.6'??

    • @sageaudio
      @sageaudio  3 года назад +2

      Hey Rion! Thanks for watching this one - They're a little bit similar, but the sound is very different. MK3 is going to have a very transparent and clean tone, whereas Limiter 6 has a unique and stylized timbre.

      Hey Luigi! Thanks for watching and for leaving a comment! I like to rerecord references into a DAW via the output and line input on the back of my interface. If that doesn't work for you, getting the CD and using the files from that as your references will work well.
