I'm literally just finishing up my first 500 points of these guys and I used a very similar recipe, death world forest and wraithbone + skeleton horde for the chest eagles, keep up the good work mate!
I recently started doing up my surplus Dark Angels from the old start set(3 sets!), got 30 marines, 12 bikes and 15 terminators. I got some caliban green spray and then drybrushed some Vellejo German Camo Bright Green with a makeup brush. Got a really nicely blended dark to light highlight, almost like an airbrush.
Sonic, I hope you see this: The other day, I thought about starting up a channel on how to easily dry brush and speed paint 40k, and then it dawned on me, that I learned everything I know about simple painting from YOU, and I'd be totally ripping you off. I have a 2500 points Imperial Guard army that would look like total trash if I hadn't found your channel. Love you, man. Thanks for sharing the love for us bad painters. Your techniques are simple and awesome
Just because someone else has already done something doesn't mean there isn't value in putting your spin on it - after all, think about how many adaptations of Dracula there have been over the years! ;D
This is a wonderful dead simple scheme that works with simple details but can be added to if/when you can be bothered it's so elegant and clean, my own chapter I'm building uses an Olive scheme and this will help me smash out my space marine armour and imperial fatigues I'm also doing Bronze heads, triming and certain plates as well as purple eyes, seals joints and effects called the Copperhead Rouges Side note this works great for Ork skin I bet
Really excellent work as always. I really like the use of that shade on this colour scheme, there was no need for your to either co back with an over brush of the base colour OR sit there and shade with a tiny brush into all of the armour panel joins and cracks...but it looks heavy metal style on the shade...wish there was a shade for dark angels that worked like that? I used your dark angels tutorial and that is the only bit that makes me jealous here. Thanks for the videos learning all the time.
This was neat! I like the color scheme and I agree, it does look like modern camo. Thanks for sharing this short tutorial and I hope you will paint more color schemes for Space Marines. Thanks for sharing this.
I'm always a little surprised by how well-received the Space Marines are, but it shouldn't shock me after all this time! There's always more of them to tackle - I'm pretty sure I could just dedicate the channel to full-time Marine painting and nobody would be bothered. 😂
The Raptors are a very cool chapter. They can be essentially described as "reasonable Marines", seeing the Codex Astartes as a set of starter military tactics to be used and adapated on the fly. They teach their marines to be self sufficient, and their forces usually operate for long periods outside of normal supply lines. They prefer ranged combat to melee, but will use whatever tactics best suit the situation. They also see all Imperial forces as war assets of worth, and will requisition Imperial Guad units for sensible uses rather than letting them be used as cannon fodder.
Vielen Dank für das gute Video. Ich war lange auf der Suche nach einer einfachen Anleitung zum bemalen eines coolen Chapters. Hab mein Bestes und bin sehr zufrieden mit dem Ergebnis.
This gives me a very cool idea. I'm not doing Raptors but I was considering a pale green as the main color. Didn't even consider Death Guard Green but this video makes me think it could work.
Raptors! Yay!! Thanks for this awesome video. As always, your models look fabulous once you're finished working your magic. The paint scheme you used looks a but easier and better than what I've been doing, so I'll be switching things up. These guys make up my Kill Team.
Hey, I know it's been a while, but I have a question. So I see you do the armor first, and then finish it with everything, including black. I'm slightly new to the hobby (i've painted around 20 minis) and while it's gotten way better, I sometimes still mess up the undersuit. Is it easy to clean up mistakes with this? I assume not, since it's base+drybrush+shade, no? I could be as neat as I can, but I don't trust myself enough to be able to 100% not mess up. Same thing on the black leather and gun (when it borders with the fingers) if not, would it be possible to paint the black before the shade (or maybe even drybrush), fix it, then do the rest? Or would the athonian camoshade mess up the black and make it green-ish? Any ideas/solutions? Sorry for the long comment, I'm just sure that you're way more experienced than me with this.
What colours would you recommend/would you do a tutorial on how to paint green space marine eyes? I'm going to be doing the Howling Griffons in a couple weeks time and would like a good idea on what to use. Ideally minimalist, need to save money where I can XD
For the eyes of most of my Marines I do just a short white line in the socket - don't fill in the whole eye lens - and then put a dollop of an appropriate glaze or Contrast colour in there. It then settles toward the edges and gives a very quick finish.
I have a really dumb question. I saw a box of intercessors that had 3 figures and some paints included. The figures of the box were blue.... Do people buy this box and then paint them whatever color they want or are their specific figures/boxes for the other colors
The boxed sets with the little paints are really an opportunity to give painting and assembling miniatures a try. But despite the blue Ultramarines on many of the boxes, you can paint them any colour you want to represent different Chapters of Space Marines. You just need the paints to do it! ;D
Question: would The Raptor Chaptor change their armours colours to reflect the enviroment they are in? EG desert of urban???? What wuld it look like if they were in a desert plant say Armageddon??
I do plenty of videos in which they feature - check out some of the Bolt Action ones, or anything with an Army Painter thumbnail. When it comes to Citadel miniatures I tend to stick mostly to Citadel paints as a matter of practicality; if someone's got a bunch of Space Marines, chances are good they're going to have access to the paints that match.
I'm in much the same boat. I just don't get them, but plenty of people seem to be keen on them and have asked how I'd paint them, so now they can go nuts with it. :D
Featuring drybrush and shade! The only way to get an army painted in one lifetime.
Too damn right. It's the only way I paint anymore. Been in the hobby too long to worry about edge highlighting everything
I'm literally just finishing up my first 500 points of these guys and I used a very similar recipe, death world forest and wraithbone + skeleton horde for the chest eagles, keep up the good work mate!

@@SonicSledgehammerStudio Many thanks for the moral support, my dude. Maybe I'll start an Imperial Guard specific channel, as they are my true love!
One of my favorite chapters. Sneaky marines. There is honour in stealth.
There is no honor in stealth and the Raptors don't give a damn about it either
I'm so excited! I just started some raptors after learning to cast the shoulder pad from the Deathwatch Kill Team box. Thanks for the video!
Great video as always! I'll soon be starting to paint up my own chapter whose main colour is a very similar green so this is really helpful.
Awesome Raven Guard successors!

Reikland Fleshshade can give you a nice effect if you want a slightly dusty look to your green.

Loved this video am about to start an army of raptors. Definitely going to use this guide. Keep up the awesome work.

Audio and especially visual upgrades a winner. Great vid. As always.
Cool beans, been learning the beginnings of this chapter in the Horus Heresy novels.
Excellent Video... I've been waiting for a easy to follow tutorial for the Raptors. Thanks
see this is perfect, simple but good looking and easy to do. perfect guide.

I've been waiting for this one. Thanks!!
Looks great! I'm working on a Raptors army and this will be somewhat easier than my method. Can't wait to give it a try!
Another excellent guide. Thank you for your help.
I like it. I'm going to use this base scheme for my Ultramarine Afrika Korp Chapter!
looks super effective, keep up the good work. would love to see your take on a dark angel
Great suggestion! Something like this? ;D ruclips.net/video/R4HI2omM7WM/видео.html
Finally Raptors! Sadly there isn't much info on them but another video well done.
Forgeworld Badab War Imperial Armour books

Another great video!
The timing on this video is insane. Was just about to plan my next Kill Team and decided to go with Raptors Primaris.
Will steal a few steps here :)
Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks so much.
God i love your vids!
only way i'd ever get full armies done.
I painted all my iron hands following your videos could you please do an aggressor please your by far my favourite painter on RUclips
Oh Wow, I'm starting my first SM chapter, based on this video.
But which colour of cloak would match well with this paint scheme?
What colours would you recommend/would you do a tutorial on how to paint green space marine eyes?
I'm going to be doing the Howling Griffons in a couple weeks time and would like a good idea on what to use.

I like the new camera work!

This was awesome. Thank you :) On a quick side note, if you were doing Raptor Chapter Scouts, what colour would you personally do the fatigues?
For Raptors I'd probably keep them quite drab and flat; something like Steel Legion Drab would be my first choice.
Yeah! Raptors!!!
great video, i sure am learning alot from you're videos. Thanks!
Thank you .
Good stuff - and thank you :-)
Hi, is it possible to also paint blood angels in a similar way to this? Very basic and matt looking red? Many thanks.
Question: would The Raptor Chaptor change their armours colours to reflect the enviroment they are in? EG desert of urban???? What wuld it look like if they were in a desert plant say Armageddon??
I have no idea. I don't really know the lore of them.
Quick question .. did you use a varnish to finish off the miniature?
So do you think dry brushing metallic on a marines is a good idea
Works for me!
Hey! Do you remember which green you used on the eyes?
Elysian Green I thiiiiiink? It's been a while! 😅
Anyone know what colours were used on the gun?
I’m my opinion this is the absolute best painting tutorial channel on RUclips. This is real, not someone spending 10 hours on 1 model!
Thank you kindly! :D
I painted my Raptors squad in NATO camo colors😁
Great vid, u missed the green shade in the description :O)
Whoops! Good shout, I'll correct that.
GSC next? 😜
looks similar to the castellans of the rift.
Kinda look how I imagined Halo Spartan themed Marines to look like
Doom guy?
Oh hey look its master chief.................. wait never mind
Can you maybe do more videos with non citadel paints? I am really interested in Vallejo and Army Painter. As always I love your work
I do plenty of videos in which they feature - check out some of the Bolt Action ones, or anything with an Army Painter thumbnail. When it comes to Citadel miniatures I tend to stick mostly to Citadel paints as a matter of practicality; if someone's got a bunch of Space Marines, chances are good they're going to have access to the paints that match.
Great tutorial! Lore and appearance wise, folks seem to love this Chapter, but I think they are terribly boring. 🤷♂️
I'm in much the same boat. I just don't get them, but plenty of people seem to be keen on them and have asked how I'd paint them, so now they can go nuts with it. :D
Vanguard primaris look really cool like this!
