@@3182john I’m referring to the direction the talent in this industry has gone. I won’t leave my truck on the end of a row for 5 minutes because I’m afraid of my hood getting ripped off in that short amount of time. Never used to be like this.

Legal or not, that's a dumb place to park in a crowded truck stop...and you're just asking for a bonehead to wad you up.
As a former trucker, sometimes a driver has a hard time finding a safe place. Driver shouldn't have run.

When I worked for DG, I knew some guys that preferred to blind side. I wasn’t one. I would have reset for a 45 or found another spot. Wisdom comes with experience.
I thought those dollar general company drivers were actually pretty good at backing, considering they have to blind side back off the highway at half of their stops.
Dollar general was my first job trucking and I was bad at first but I for sure learned quick

It woulda been 1,000 times easier for him to hit that hole if slid his tandems back about 4 feet. Tandems all the way forward creates way more problems than it solves. Rookies prefer to have them like that all the time because they’re uneasy about most turns as they are really still learning. But one eventually learns that they fight the overhang when backing up, you start getting popped at the scale house for being overweight in the tandems and pallets on the tail take a beating.
I miss the days when 50 gallons of fuel got you a parking spot. Now, you need points from 1000 gallons to pay for a spot!
How about when you got more than 50 gallons you got a free cup of coffee

A penny per gallon in points and $25 minimum for pay to park. More like 2500 gallons at that rate.
Might have been a blessing. This driver ignored hub oil leaking from that steer. Wheelholder may have caused a fatality wreck if continued.

Trainers and schools should really stress that drivers don't mind getting out and watching to make sure you don't hit them if you just ask nicely and tell them that you are new. We have all been here, we all know how hard that 1st year is, as you are tossed out here alone to figure stuff out.
Correct, I tell my students to ask for help.
TRAINERS should teach this. So should companies in Orientation.
I told them I was new and didn't know jack, they were definitely willing to help😂😂😂. Nothing wrong with admitting you're still learning and trying to understand the truck and trailer. I don't really now, but that first year I did not have any shame.

That “special light” on the Dollar General trailer was an ABS light. Now, when yours goes off, you’ll know what it is…🙄
think hes talking about the overhead light. its just a utility light for unloading in the dark and comes on automatically when you put the truck in park and goes off when you release the brakes

When I started driving there were fuel attendants that fueled your truck parked your truck and brought your receipt to you while eating a meal and especially didn't allow blocking the lanes or littering! 70s and 80s
Too many fights broke out over the girls many places had doing fueling! That’s what really ended that, not just the economics of the truck stops.

Yea a few times. Generally the attendants only had to pull in to the first row, nice and easy. Remember parking wasn't a thing back then, owners and fuel guys didn't put up with stuff and liked drivers!

I have to disagree. My mother drove a truck for a very short time the world's worst truck driver. Show up 3 days late show up one place when she was suppose to be in a different state with the same address.
@@staceybowers3945That’s only ONE. Ask a company safety director. They will tell you that they prefer to hire women for several reasons. We do have fewer accidents. We rarely get into fights. The ones who really can’t do the job tend to quit sooner and go home than guys. Women are less likely to piss off customers. That’s statistics. You can always find bad examples.

Parking at a truckstop is a risk I usually don't go to sleep till both spots next to me are taken I even help them back up than I ask you staying the night thay way I cam sleep and not worry about it..

I stopped at a TA in South Carolina, a shower cost $ 16.00 man crazy!
Buy fuel - get a free shower. Works that way at most major TS.
Get a Planet Fitness membership. Some have room for parking.

Never blindside unless you’re in a day cab or you have no other choice and preferably with the assistance of a spotter.
The loves and pilot on 99 exit 86 in ca always seem to have parking.

Clip #2 is the reason I try my best to not blind back, and it looks like he didn’t have to blind back either, he just didn’t want to go turn around and try from his drive side.

I've never parked at a truck stop bobtailing... Picture bobtailing as a rolling camper then imagine your on vacation with every load you can pretty much bobtail anywhere... That's what I do

I’ve been to Lathrop FJ many times. That is 1 tight truck stop and BTs are all over the place there. Fuel and food only parked there 2 times and I was fortunate to find a str8 back spot

Drivers, even the old ones, please take the effort to help out fellow drivers if they are clearly having some backing issues. Spotting helps keep everyone safe, and its good will. Everyone, new and old, needs help once in awhile. We're all out here doing the same thing, earning the pay, so we can get home. Little kindness goes a long way in an otherwise selfish world.

Blind side parking into a tight spot is always difficult and challenge. Of course arm chair keyboard know it all will say different. There are no parking. He probably tired just wants some rest. And third one of them could have spotted him but they don't want take any responsibility incase anything to happen.
If the driver is that new and unaware of the angles. You can tell them roll down the window crank the wheel exactly the right angle and walk back that truck like walking a dog on leash. Its burdensome but its quick and accident free. It isn't something that should be required but he is backing on the blind side what do you f'cking expect. How many accidents happen on daily basis of that poor parking layout. Millions of trucks have been wrecked there. These aren't safe havens even though lawfully they meet the technical definition. There is nothing safe being parked where each driver next to you backs up on the blind side. It should be Blind side "Stupid Haven".
1st guy seems like the type to park in the fire lane right in front of doors to the grocery store when there's an empty parking lot...and say it's not enforceable because it's private property...

This just happened to me last week on 75 south outside of Atlanta mile marker 235 I was in the center driving a marten transport truck and a owner operator hit me and took off
The damage was already done, I would've helped the dollar general guy back in.

Whether its a legal spot or not, does that impact someone elses ability to drive a truck? I've seen plenty of people who can't drive a truck hit people parked in legal spots too. This guy Johnny always talks about this, like hes trying to make excuses for the crasher. He sounds like someone who has hit people himself.

Man for the days when Truckstops werent so greedy. I never stayed at a Truckstop where i didnt spend enough money to justify overnight parking. I was always frustrated by california and their paid parking schemes. I remember rolling into the 49'er TSA/76 and having to pay to park after buying fuel and having tire work done with receipts.. I made it a point to work around that after that nonsense. But that was years ago, i had 20 years otr and had to retire (injured) back in 2002. I miss the road, but its gettin nuts guys. That 49er truck stop still costs money. $15/night and it holds like 400 trucks. Packed every night. The owner must make a fortune.

The guy who got his front end clipped, should also be fired. He didn't try to prevent the incident. If i was in the safety department, I would have him fired. Reason, simple, not taking due diligence in parking.
You can't be a truck driver,,do you know how hard it is to find a good parking spot in any truck stop after 5 pm any days of the week,,I pull into one in Wisconsin on boxing day at 5 pm and it was already sold out..

That truckstop in lathrop is one of the worst. Always crowded super tight to park and almost always full. Unless i HAVE to fuel their i avoid it at all costs. Park at your own risk. Ill go to ripon flying j instead if i have to be close.

I’m a woman truck driver the fact that it was a woman means nothing. She was stupid for what she did I agree. I was parked at a truck stop parked legally in a spot and this man went full speed in reverse and hit my truck. He never even got out to look.
53 foot long trailers are to long
Too long for what? We have always had a driver shortage. Imagine going back to 28’ trailers and carrying HALF the freight. We’d need TWICE as many drivers and tractors. That isn’t even possible. After you drive for a while, you get the feel of that 53, and it feels like a long train of a dress. You know where it is.
