My grand mother used to make these in Bavaria, they are called "Zwetschgenknödel" and are well known also in Austria. Apparently also in many central european countries. She didn t put cinnamon in the breadcrumbs but she added sugar and had it caramelized then lots of butter. This was a main dish and we all made them around the big kitchen table . Piles of them! My grandfather used to eat at least six. Sweet memories! In Austria they also prepare them with apricots, they are then called "Marillen Knödel".
This is a typical summer dish in Slovenia. But we roll the hot dumplings in hot breadcrumbs with butter. I usually cook the breadcrumbs together with some sugar so that the sugar is caramelized a little and then the dumplings taste even sweeter. Love your recipes!

I’m always making these with my grandma 😊 she replaces the pit with an half lump sugar. Before we eat them we pour melted butter over the dumplings. In Germany we call them Zwetschgenknödel. One of my favorite sweet dishes!
I like your Slovenian/Croatian recipes - my mom used to make these all the time when I was growing up. basically a treat for us. When the plumbs were out of season she would use a nice big pitted prune. So very good.

Hi, about the cinnamon, yes neither in Hungary or Romania. Well more exactly in the parts I live. We mix sugar and cinnamon and add it to the plum before wrapping the plum. And instead of flour, we use semolina. The dumpling becomes much softer (fluffy )

It's so interesting to see that something I find to be very common is so new and unexpected to so much people. Try it, it's amazing, but couple of 'pro' tips. Put a teaspoon of sugar in the plum, it makes an awesome syrup, use really ripe plums, make sure to use butter when toasting breadcrumbs and put hot dumplings in hot breadcrumbs, it makes kind of a shell that ads loads of texture. Use sugar additionally if needed over the top. Adding cinnamon is delicious, but optional.
The same at my Polish home :) My mum used to put some sugar into the plum so when you cut it this delicious sweet juice would ooze out of it. Loved it, but I sure will try the bread crumbs version for a change.
We make something similar in Italy ...but my boyfriend is from Croatia and that’s how I heard about this version which I wanna try and make for him !!!

We eat potato dumplings of all sorts here in Austria too, both sweet with fruits like prunes or apricots and also savory with minced beef or bacon on the inside. I've recently been looking to adapt my recipe for the potato dough, as I've always had some problems with the dumplings being a little flaky on the outside after cooking them, so I'll try this recipe today.
These are also very popular in Serbia ( we call them _knedle sa šljivama_ ). It's such a surprise to stumble upon this recipe on this kind of cooking channel. Please, prepare more Balkan dishes! :)

Interesting recipe, plums aren't in season in my country but I hope to buy it soon to try this out. My mother loves plumes so I hope this recipe will bring joy to her
I didn't know it is all over Central Europe, thanks everyone for their comments! Just made them today with my wife, but we didn't have plum but guava in Mexico. It also works and the smell of it is amazing!
Moja mama je znala staviti samo žličicu šećera u šljivu što bi stvorilo fini sirup unutar knedle, a prezle su morale biti vruće da se stvori lagana korica kad se stavi knedla unutra. I obavezno malo maslaca u prezle.
These are called Knodel or Knedle. You have to use more ripe plums so they release their juice when you cut into dumpling. Also you can serve with sour cream on top.
This is the first time i see this combination in my life. To be honest, when i first read the words "potato" and "plum" on the same sentence in the title, i thought that "plum" was a nickname for something else. We certainly don't have this in my country (Greece), even though we are not far from the countries which have it, based on the comments. I would like to try it because i never say no to food without trying it first. Maybe i 'll like it, who knows?
yes.. may seem weird to combine potatoes with plums and sweetened breadcrumbs... but it's delicious... :) you don't really feel the potatoes.. let me know if you try it out
