  • Alright, so this was probably the most tired I've ever been! I was so very broken when I filmed the intro to this video! I had moved house, felt like I'd been dragged through hell and back, and then, before handing back the flat to the landlord I had to do a final clean. I thought this would take 2 hours, it took 8 hours and during that time I was working absolutely non stop. This video was the morning after!
I did a video a while ago about seeing my new house for the first time in 6 months and how shocked I was at the things I'd spotted that weren't right with it, catch up here if you missed it:
    • Breakfast with Kat - T...
So in this video I thought I would chronicle some of the weirder things that I really did struggle to get my head around! A lot of these are of course easy fixes and in true Kat fashion I will project manage my way to a home that I am proud of and doubtless video it along the way!
Some things that I didn't capture in this video but were very wrong with the house were:
The electrics were against regulations and there were parts of the installation that were dangerous, thank you survey for not picking this up...., the seller refused to fix it because it wasn't a mortgage condition and we found out too late in the day to do anything other than foot the £600 bill.
There is grass growing in the gutters and the gutters are broken. Rather than fix this and stop water dripping onto the boiler’s fflue they have covered the fflue with lead flashing - also against regs and dangerous.
The kitchen counters and cupboards all look quite new, but the kitchen floor is scratched and scuffed to hell! It needs a totally new floor.
A number of things aren't or weren't sealed - there was no sealant around the kitchen sink and huge gaps for water to get through to the cupboard below. There's no seal around the toilet sink or the tap on that same sink. There's no sealant around the toilet.
So many things are just not finished. In many rooms the flooring doesn't meet the edge of the room particularly in corners. In tiled rooms the tiles don't meet the edge of the room or there are tiles missing or they just haven't grouted up to the edge of the tiles. Where a tiled wall ends there is no tile finisher it just ends on raw tile!
I mean to be honest this list could go on and on and on and on! But I've already fixed a few of the big issues that we were facing and the ones that aren't life threatening I have all the time in the world to put right.
If you want to see what it's like to do DIY as a normal person and to have to sort of learn on the fly, subscribe, I bet this is going to be hilarious...
