I remember when this channel was very small meeting in somebody's tiny, brick house. Great to see you continue to grow while sticking to your morals and roots.
Just recently finished printing and flying this plane a bunch. This is my favorite RC plane so far. Prints up nicely, wide speed envelope, cheap to repair. Am already printing another one since it's proven itself and I want to have a couple of them. Am also completing an upscaled 125% 64mm version that looks great. Can't wait to fly it. More info about it on RC groups. The guy who shared his experience doing this larger version also supplied an stl file for winglet style tips instead of the plain ones. Looks kinda like a Viper Jet now but way less cost. Super cool. I can print and build one of these up for about $100 (PNP version). Typical damage of wingtips or nose are easily repaired. My current Cobra has 50mm Xfly 4s motor powered with 1400mAh graphene battery and I can get 3-4 minutes easy. I take off from pavement and it's easy. I use a gyro and set it up for maximum rudder sensitivity to help with take offs. Take offs are easy. If it wants to veer left or right the most likley problem is one wheel not spinning as freely as it's twin. ON landing it takes getting used to as its so efficient it will just keep going but it will allow a pretty surprising amount of nose high pitch attitude when landing so don't be afraid to get it slowed down it doesn't stall as easy as some and can do a sort of semi high-alpha attitude at touchdown if you milk it right.
You guys need to get the original crew together for a reunion! Would be fun to see everyone again. David W. was the first one I saw throw a DLG.....and now I have around 20 of them. Lol
Wow David.. your hands were shakin like a chihuahua at a family reunion. Thats almost as bad as me trying to solder a flight controller with nerve damage in my neck and arms. You flew it well though. I wonder if there's any benefit for you guys to make a hybrid model. So foam board parts and 3d printed parts. Maybe 3d fuselage and foam board wings so you can have a detailed fuselage and light yet functional wings.
ive printed 4 of these so far. heres some tips: use PLA not LWPLA, the strength gained far outweighs the additional weight, and LWPLA is temperamental, but PLA makes this model easy. eclipson's settings are important, but they're not law, feel free to mod the temp and layer height to better suit your printer. you can complete the entire jet in just PLA, an use DU-BRO parts to finish it. theres no difference between performance or weight between the T and V tail, unless you want to do knife edges. you'll want an EDF in the neighborhood of 30A 3s 1200g thrust, i use an amazon special with a 50A esc, 3-4s, and 1400g thrust, and that power plant has survived two crashes. the crashes were entirely my fault and not due to the additional weight of PLA. i strongly disagree with flitetest about the LWPLA. although you do save 25%of the weight minimum, its a little too flexible with single wall LWPLA, and its so thin you can see through it, and if youre not careful you can puncture "wing 1 L+R" in particular. make sure that your prints print super flat. any warping is going to make your build a nightmare. better than a plastic welder, better than 3D goop, better than CA and kicker, get a 3D printing pen. for my current iteration, i printed the canopy and control surfaces out of LWPLA, but with 3 walls instead of 1 saving a grand total of 18 grams(insignificant). sunlu PLA+ vs overture airPLA only saved me 180g which is less than 20% weight reduction, and in return i more than doubled the strength. top speed in this configuration with a 4s 3000 is 80mph, but it feels very floaty, even though its stall speed is about 30mph. this is a very fun EDF jet you can fly almost anywhere, and its total cost is very competitive even with production models. its like a baby zeus. highly reccomend getting both tails, but you cannot swap tails, you must build a new airframe for a new tail, but thats the fun part, making your own replacement parts is such a powerful feeling. i hope this helps someone out there. i was looking for this info before i built mine. happy building and soar long. ❤+☮

Hey there Josh Bixler, I just watched, The UNTOLD Story Of Flite Test. Excellent. I have an idea, but don't know if it can happen. Do you think an RC plane can navigate a way point mission autonomously by video or photos of landmarks? I know they can do waypoint missions guided by GPS.

"Words mean things. There is a distinction between these types of tails." Agreed. I had hoped my comment about Ts and Vs being interchangeable would be seen as nonsense.
