My Thoughts on Self Improvement | Reviewing 3 Years of Weight Loss

  • Three years ago, I decided to make a change in my life and share it here on RUclips. After losing 170 pounds I have experienced the many physical benefits in weight loss, but I have also struggled mentally to accept my new situation. In this three year review I go over it all and try to explain what got me started, what has changed, what went wrong, what got me through it and what is next. Overall, the goal is self improvement.

      Why thank you Rachelle, you are very kind. Honestly my faith has played a pretty instrumental role in my mental fortitude, so I can't really take the credit ;) Through all the ups and downs I hold on to the hope I have in Him. Even when I am struggling and don't fully comprehend, I believe there is a plan in it all. (Prov. 3 v.5-6)

      I need to take same time for myself, relax, and have fun. I've always compared my self worth to what I was doing with my life and what other people thought, so I've always kept myself busy trying to do more and more. I never take a vacation or do anything fun, so this year I want to quit being so boring and actually LIVE my life!

    This video was just so amazing!! You truly have talent James!! This video was so well done, all of it, I loved it!! ...(and Darn you James, you made me emotional, hehe) I can relate to so many things you’ve said, wow 😢As you know I lost my father back in the fall of 2018, (due to complications from his morbid obesity) and I was in a dark place too. I was born and raised a Christian, my father was a Deacon, grandfathers were ministers, etc. but losing my father shook my faith which I thought could never happen and that is a scary feeling so I can relate there... but I’m so grateful to say I am now closer to Him than ever before.... there hasn’t been a single video of yours that I’ve missed... and to see your transformation both physically and mentally is truly inspiring!!! I am so thankful I found your channel, you are a light in this world for sure James, don’t ever stop being YOU💙!! I’m sorry for my rambling here... here’s to an amazing new life☺️
    And You’re saying is something that has always stuck with me...

    Love this. I am on the road to recovering from severe fibromyalgia and stomach problems, and emotional and mental health issues from an abusive childhood using diet and counselling. It is really tough a lot of the times, but this is the first summer than I've been able to actually jog a little bit and work out to the point I feel normal post exercise soreness instead of fibromyalgia pain. It has been so nice to be able to work out again, if for no reason other than to let out a lot of emotional energy that is pent up from my abuse. Mental health is my biggest struggle now. Thanks for sharing and inspiring

    Hey dude, this video just randomly came up - and just wanted to say keep up all the hard work you're doing! I'm currently in a health journey of my own - lose weight, control my blood pressure and cholesterol while gaining some muscle - and financial health too with paying down student loan debt.
    Your journey looks like it was both challenging and rewarding, and someone like you would be an awesome friend to have along the way to keep you laughing, smiling and encouraged! You kinda remind me of Sam from lord of the rings haha. But I'm glad I found your channel, I'm glad you were able to bring the things that make you happiest back into your life - I'll definitely be sticking around and checking out what you got!

      Thank you for the complements and if you ever need some "Sam" encouragement feel free to shoot me a message! Life sure isn't easy, but it is a heck of a lot better when you have people to help you along the way. Makes it a lot more fun too 😄

I’ve always been way too scared to go to the gym and workout where I’ll see many kids from school and people I know. Btw I love your videos! keep it up, I believe in you

    • @JamesJansen
      @JamesJansen  4 года назад +2

      When going to the gym I would ask yourself this: "Why am I going to the gym?"
      When you are able to answer this, that should be your main focus. When you are working out that is ll that matters, the why. This can even extend past just getting healthy or gaining muscle. Right now a big motivator for me is trying to get a better time on my next 5k or even just a better time on my mile. On top of that I want to do more hiking this summer and don't want to feel like I am dying on ever trip lol.
      Once you are able to center your focus on the why, you can easily ignore the negative thoughts telling you that other people are watching or judging. From my experience I have never met anyone at the gym that does that. I almost feel like this is a completely self-constructed myth that everyone tells themselves. But let's say that does happen, you can just brush it off and remember why you are there in the first place. That "why" is a powerful tool that can really help keep us on track. It may also be useful to have a game plan before you go in. That way you can work through and ignore any distractions.
      If possible, you could always try to encourage a friend of yours to join you. Having someone you trust by your side and encouraging you can be a huge help. I just got done with a workout with my friend and I can say that it was like 10 times as fun too :D
      I know that this is a huge mental battle for you, but I assure you the struggle is well worth it my friend. I am rooting for you Zach and will be praying for peace as you push your comfort zone here. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask here or you can message me on my other social media accounts. You got this man!

      Typically you will want a pair of gym shoes, gym clothes and a water bottle. I would also have a game plan set up as far as what you want to accomplish (Cardio or Weights - If weights what muscles are you going to work on?) That kind of stuff. You can always go and check out the place before you go for your first workout and ask for a tour from someone. They could then answer any of your questions as well. Hope that helps!

    What did you major in and what was the moment that made you switch to filming?
