The last time we spoke to Ueli Steck he told us that he was going to take it a bit easier this year, work on his rock climbing and go on holiday with his wife. Well, he doesn't quite seem to be sticking this particular New Years resolution as we've heard that he and Michi Wohlleben have linked the 3 classic north faces of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo.
It all sounded a bit last minute but Michi sent Ueli a text on the 11th March suggesting the idea and less than a week later, they'd done it. Starting up the Cassin route on Cima Ovest at 8.30, they then climbed the Comici line on Cima Grande finished with the Innerkofler on Cima Piccola. In all, it took them 15 hours 42 minutes.
They had support from friends who met them with supplies at various points and also managed to have their own little party at the Auronzo hut, drinking wine and listening to German Band Die Toten Hosen until the small hours.
We also speak to Simone Moro about his recent attempt on the first winter ascent of Nanga Parbat. Bivouac at 6800m anyone?

Moro is supposed to be a professional alpinist. Dumb mistakes are not contemplated at all. How can you eat in a dirty plate during the apex of such a demanding expedition? Are you serous?

safewaycart: from your comment I assume you do not have much experience in high altitude mountaineering expeditions. For instance it seems that you assume Moro had a clear and easy choice in terms of food and dishes. Is your suggestion that since there was a small possibility to get nauseated by the food flavour Moro should have avoided it altogether? Moro is a professional alpinist and one universally recognised amongst his peers as a control-freak, worried about the minute details of each aspect of the expedition. If you knew something about alpinism you'd already knew this...

@@maarcussi But mistakes like that are what get experienced climbers killed, his next one will most likely be his last.
