  • Josh Neighbors shares his thoughts on the latest conference realignment news in college football, including the Jason Scheer tweet saying that there is an internal belief that Clemson & Florida State will join the Big 12 Conference in the coming years.
He discusses the reasons that would cause the Big 12 to add FSU & Clemson including Big Ten & the SEC not being able to fit them in right now, a strong desire to stick it to the ACC & private equity being involved. He also discusses why ESPN probably would not be a fan of this move.
He also explains why it is good business for the Big 12 to keep themselves in the headlines.

FSU, Clemson, Miami and Louisville to the Big 12 would be huge

It will be curious to see what happens with FSU and Clemson.

Being an FSU Alum, I can confidently say many FSU season ticket holders, boosters and alumni are not interested in the Big 12. Knowing many Clemson people, I can confidently say they feel the same. Spread all the misinformation you want, delude yourself but at the end, we will not be in your conference. Brett Yormark or not this will never happen.

This sounds familiar. I recall Utah and the Arizonas saying the same thing.
Lol You're right, you are way too good for the big12.

Don't get it twisted. This is about money. ESPN isn't trying to give up FSU which means unless a deal is struck with Fox, Big 12 or FSU goes independent since the relationship with the ACC looks to be beyond repair

Wtf do you mean “do they pull this off, no”? After suggesting yes it’s real??

To ESPN…. The best deal is usually the one you could have made yesterday… you might have FSU and Clemson on the cheap right now in the ACC.. but the price will only continue to go up to add them in 5-10 years… also like UW and UO, I’m sure Clemson and FSU would take somewhat of a partial share for a number of years just to get the golden ticket…

There is an internal belief among 5 year olds that Santa is real.

I am skeptical. What would be in it for Clemson and FSU? If the Big 12 could negotiate with the networks an unequal revenue share that would be significantly more than what they are getting in the ACC and, if they can get out of the ACC with minimal penalty, and if the Big 12 would agree they could leave to the SEC/B1G in the future without penalty, I could see it happening.
But that is a lot of if's. And would the Big 12 even want FSU and Clemson under those circumstances?

I don’t want FSU under those circumstances. I think Clemson is way more likely to stay in the Big 12. So add Clemson, The U, UNC, Louisville, Duke, and others that make sense financially.

They'd get out of a deal that runs through 2036 and includes a weird 1-sided ND deal as well as a bunch of really bad teams: BC et al.
They'd get games in Texas and Florida to boost recruiting and have a path to the CFP regularly.
If SEC won't let you join then play them every year in the CFP and simply beat them.

The big12 is, at best, a lateral move from the ACC. I don’t know how this rumor got started.

I was wondering why you’d do all this to leave the acc and just go to the big 12. We didn’t know about the others until we knew so we won’t know until we know 🤷‍♀️😂

      @Explicit6ixty9 Месяц назад

But seriously they’d have the same problem in the big12, same reason they left the acc

Once again the big 10 or the sec are not interested at all about getting florida st. And clemson period ! So that leaves the big12 or going independent now ! Can we finally relize this and move on please jamie

Synergies and location do matter. Both CLEMSON and FSU are worth more playing an ACC schedule than a BIG12.
Remember that TX/OK left the BIG12 due to not having the lift to get a Tier 1 deal, few games of higher fan interest (even with lots of regional history), and the effects on recruiting. Given all of that and the BIG12's recent dilutive backfill, FSU and CLEMSON will somehow have the lift, etc.?
