  • I was given this set (1949 Westinghouse H-223) from a member of the Vintage Television Collectors group on Facebook. I've been sitting on it for a while and finally decided to restore it. It took about 2 weeks since I hit a brick wall with the excessive horizontal overscan. Really nice tabletop model. Picture is nice a bright.
I used a B&K 465 CRT Tester. For testing the tubes, I use a Superior TV-11. I order parts from Antique Electronic Supply and Mouser.
Let me know if you all want restoration videos in the future. I'm currently making the Zenith restoration video.
Please let me know if you have any questions! I'm still learning everyday. I don't claim to be an expert with tube televisions by any means.

Great video! I like to see older stuff live on . They don’t make them like they used to.

I have a 1951 Westinghouse television and it is a display item. Just like the one you have. I have not worked on it, exact duplicate of your television. That coating on the outside is called aquadag, an electrically conductive graphite-based paint.

Excellent job on this beautiful early postwar set! Looks to me like it might be a little out of focus, though.

I think you should do what makes you happy. Stop worrying about what we want, because youtube probably won't be a part of our lives forever. Even if it is, do you really want to sacrifice your happiness for an audience? I'm just glad we get to see you work on this stuff, it's interesting to see and fun to watch.

Just imagine this is how electronics looked like in the late 40's. Yep, they didn't have circuit boards back then. Everything is soldiered together properly but it looks messy as hell. It must have been a headache to assemble these tv sets back in the day.

I used to service mid '60 and 70s tube type p/b tv sets and some famous brands here in Brazil don't survided a crosshatch video pattern... Horizontal lines at top and bottom are full round barrel distorted, probably thanks to poor deflection yoke construction...

Yes I realize that now haha. I do like the cabinet but wish I could redo the protective coating over the veneer but that’s kinda risky to take off without scratching the veneer

Love your cat. I have two but they are outdoor cats. The mother had them in my garage but about two months later she disappeared I assume someone or something killed her. They have a safe place to sleep my garage but I don't want indoor cats.

Was high voltage generated with low frequency? I didn't see any flybacks.

    • @televisionforever

This set does have a flyback inside the flyback cage, I didn't notice I didn't get any footage of it.
