Love this song!!! Because it speaks to so many people. I like the symbolism of raising your hands, as a Christian, it has a double meaning ... releasing whatever your sick of, plus you're surrendering it to God. Whatever you are sick of ... give it up to God! Surrender it to God. But if you don't believe in God, you are still being asked to give it up, release it, don't hold to stuff you can't control, have no control over. Don't hold on to things that only hold you down, keep you prisoner.

Regarding the synth still going when the girl wasn't playing keys, it's tracked. Bass was also tracked as well - surprised you didn't notice that he lost the bass at the beginning of the song! Very keen observation about the section where the lead singer is talking to the crowd, so I think you can probably understand why the girl is playing keys live for that section rather than relying on the tracks as that conversation with the crowd can go very differently depending on the audience. I think I'm correct in saying that when the drummer gives a couple extra hits on the hi hat when they go back into the song is the signal that the tracks have started again.
They do add things to the live performances. Like besides the intro. I believe the studio version does not feature Jen's vocals as much. I think she sings a bit more of it live(being a huge fan of Jen's and her side band LEDGER. I love when they give her more vocals. I think she has the most beautiful voice in the industry). The thing i also like when John does the talking part is that it gives the band a quick breather too. They all are using so much energy while performing. So it helps them a bit too.

@@Guitarz4Lyf i was wrong she does do vocals in the studio version too. It is just much more clearer and noticable live. But Jen's voice seems more powerful live. So that maybe why i noticed it more

It's one reason I prefer studio to live. I'm sure being there, live, is awesome, but it's a bit rough listening to.
