    Over 14 minutes to describe the 3 step drawing on the package! Yes indeed

    I like to pressurise the lamp first, so that when I light it, I don’t shake the mantle to pieces by repeatedly pumping the pump.

      A good quality mantle shouldn't be affected by shaking. Always keep an eye out at garage sales for old coleman brand mantles.

    The answer is thorium ,
    It’s mildly radioactive ,
    Not a danger for humans,
    The thorium is what helps them to glow very brightly

      The important thing is to wash off your hands with some fresh water and rub them together quickly in order to get rid of any residue ,
      A few seconds will do it

      In addition,
      I recently purchased the Coleman Quick Pack, at the local Walmart,
      This kit is awesome,
      Perfect for going camping and it has a small Storage case that closes around the propane tank and keeps the globe upright and the storage case has a wide base to help keep the lantern upright while in use,
      It also has an igniter / starter button which is super handy so you don’t have to go looking around for matches, or a lighter ;
      I also have a very old propane lantern from way back in the 1960s ;
      It’s still working and going strong,
      However Coleman’s newest model is definitely an improvement,
      Many advancements ;
      Stay safe everyone and happy camping everybody 👍

      mad ass that’s not correct,
      I borrowed a Geiger counter from school in order to make a report on radioactivity in. Our environment;
      And as I already knew,
      The propane mantels that I had in my utility drawer in the kitchen were mildly radioactive,
      No surprise there;
      However the surprising find is that the name brand whole wheat bread was also mildly radioactive as well;
      Along with several of the old bricks on the side of my house;
      Again very mildly radioactive;
      No big deal;
      But in the case of the propane mantles, the thorium is used so that they will glow very brightly;
      No big deal;
      It’s just some cool science stuff;
      A manufacturer is going to do whatever it takes in order to sale their products;
      Peace out ✌🏿

      @@interwebtubes That’s pretty damned funny.
      I like to check out “unusual claims” every once in awhile too……
      Good job !!

    Ah Yeah they quit making radioactive mantles years ago. And this vid was made 3 years ago.

    Thank you.
    Why noturn the cleaner while burning? Would that flush out what is removed?

    Coleman says on their mantle video to use a gas lighter to do the burn in for the new mantles.

      It works fine. Old coleman lore would indicate the best way it with a match, that is if you want your mantle to last longer.

    Never heard that a lighter is "bad" to pre burn with.

      It has something to do with the gasses. Supposedly the gasses propane let's off can make the mantles more brittle. At least least the first light up.

    Why no gas lighters?
