Id wanna do this so bad in the future, such a lovely job. Do you have any advice or tips for someone in high school wanting to learn about this job?
Thank you for posting stuff like this, even though I have no idea about anything relevant it's so interesting & cool to me. What are your personal pros and cons about the job?
Christian, I started in the trades then became an ER nurse. I've been back in the trades since 2013. Like the medical field, there are many different and greatly rewarding professions in the trades. Expand your knowledge through books, magazines, journals, videos, social. Ignore the Get Rich Quick, Living Large content (though possible), and consume quality information like what Matt produces. Working in the trades has its stresses and challenges, but is outrageously rewarding.
@@mcintosh.daughter Thanks for your reply, it's very helpful. I will definitely continue watching Matt's content, it's so very interesting. Do you have any recommendations of books to check out, and what do you think are some of the most important things to learn for someone who's wanting to learn the trade?
I posted this on IG - when everyone’s done commenting, I’ll respond. 🙏
@@MattBangsWood I truly appreciate it man 🙏 thank you
@@christian0509A bible of sorts, one of the very best framing books and content come from Larry Haun and a wonderful book called: “The Very Efficient Carpenter”. There is a great old school video series on RUclips you can find of his, that would compliment Matt’s outstanding content.
Loved the Larry Haun reference. Glad to see his influence still alive.
Truly someone I look up to. He framed with purpose, every move counted.
once you mentioned larry haun i knew the house build would be solid !
Larry’s my hero.
Damn I'm on my day off 😂 why did I click on this so fast?
Haha, I’m glad you’re here.
@Matt, cutting those metal lumber bands with my rigging axe, so satisfying. The smell of fresh lumber while the lead is yelling out corner and T's counts. Gimme that header list boss. Lesssss Go. 😎✌️
This video hits different! Love a fresh build!
Damn man give a props to those concrete guys. Up here in canada stuff is SO bad. Every other house you find foundations that are like 2-3 inches off
So nice to see a new build from you fellas again!
Agreed! Thanks for watching man.
Framing is the fun part of hoaue building.
I agree!
Love watching you guys
Your videos are very good, I really like them, please make more videos, I will always support you.
I worked with a framer who used hairspray on his chalk lines to protect them during the frame job.
It works well from what I hear! Just smell of an ‘80’s cover band all day.. 🤣
@@MattBangsWood B52’s Big hair.
I seriously learn tricks from you that I never would think of that you.
Gotta love a nice flat foundo. I’m doing a remodel right now…from front door to rear door (about 25’)…it’s out an 1-1/4”….yup.
We are doing horizontal channel siding too. Things are gonna get interesting. Hard to line courses up wall to wall as it drops an 1-1/4”. lol.
1-1/4”?! Horizontal siding is going to be interesting.. What’s your plan? Just take it out of the first run and get it level off the bat?
Looking forward to the build series thanks
Love your video!!! I'm ready to watch you build!
Love the new builds!
Me too! Been a minute.
Yay new Panella build!! Our supplier stages our lumber like that on delivery. It’s so nice.
Yessirrr!
Lol, nice to see your pops again and listen to the back n' forth banter 😂
We go back and forth a lot. Sometimes too far.. 🤣
I’m a mechanical and electrical quantity surveyor. We measure everything and count everything including fittings , valves , hangers, fixtures. Each item has a unit of labor associated with assembly for example a 3/4” ball valve =.40 hours , up to 2” hanger is 1 hour and a toilet installation is 2 hours . We then have a total materials and man hours to arrive at what we think is a good price . Everything is then tabulated to arrive at our cost then 15 to 30% is added . That’s our bid , hard money how does Matt Bangwood arrive at a price to
I’m just a humble carpenter from Manitoba. Little 2 man show, but I’d love to learn from you guys haha.
Can you show a video of how you read the plans to snap lines and why you snap certain lines first? 2nd year in framing. use to be a cut guy, now installing. I want to learn how to do layouts, snap lines etc next.
Thanks Matt!
looks like 2 x 6 framing. def the way to go!
Even interiors too, not normal, typically only higher end goes that route but with how small this is.. It was a no brainer I’d imagine!
Very cool to see the real work done. I'm doing takeoffs and truss quotes on CAD. We talk alot about the theory and layout. To actually see it done is awesome.
Banginnnn🤟🏽
Great job! Love the references to Larry Haun.
That man has left a mark on the industry for years to come.
new build!? let's goooo!
14:54, we use those for the quickdeck scaffold platform, as a deck support!
nice saw flip at 12:00 hahaha thanks for the great video again🙏👍🙏👍🙏👍
and the Larry Haun throwback ayeeee
Haha, the saw flip works 50% of the time, every time.
You guys definitely have different rules versus where I am working in terms of house building codes, but the essence of carpentry and knowhow is the same. Fast forwarding through some of it helped, lol.
What’s different / where ya from? I’m always open to new methods, I’m curious to learn what varies from us to you.
@MattBangsWood
The 2x6 untreated on the side of your foundation wouldn't be there. There would be a 2x4 on top of the foundation placed upwards before the pour as your headers. We also put insulation right up to the foundation wall, but before there is a seal done with a thick blue paint to avoid any open gaps
Hell ya brother new job new day!!
This is like watching a foreign operation
You should make a hammer comparison video next bro
Matt, have you ever done commercial framing? I think you would like it.
Wanting to get into construction but have barely any knowledge besides an online course I did from work. Loving these videos. Do you have one based on tools such as why you would use a framing hammer over an nailing gun?
gotta do my sun nascar 2 picks for the top 5 today
Have you guys tried s275 double galvanized steel frames?
Great videos, Have you ever used Redline chalk? Strong stuff so need to to clear the lines.
Never heard of it. I'll check it out.
@@MattBangsWood If you have Whitecap supply down where you are at. Just careful over over spray especially garage slab.
There is like dye mixed in. Great full build vids!
tyler reddick ,kyle larson top 5 finishers
Whats the reason when marking a tape measure with the 2 lines?
Great video. Is it common practice in framing to cut those boards with a saw over your foot like that?
For the most part. Wouldn’t be something you’d cut on sawhorses.
Why is the concrete good? Interesting how you could tell just by glancing.
Do you always draw the lines on the pad before putting up the frame?
Absolutely, every time.
Ok I know I’m on the east coast and maybe I’m not looking hard enough but do 2x6 come 92 5/8 or do you have to cut each individual stud? And I’m guessing a big price difference if you have to cut each one other than just “slinging” pre cuts? Yup I’m trying to lean.
92-1/4” pre-cut for 8’ walls.
I’ve never found a single person who can explain the reason why they’re different either and it bugs me daily. 92-5/8” is part of the country, 92-1/4” for others..
If we have to precut studs it takes time, definitely wouldn’t cost the same to build a whole home that way.
@MattBangsWood , comes down to the sheetrockers on the east coast. That's where the 92⅝ came from if I remember correctly. 😎✌️
👍👍
Hi @mattbangswood just wanting understand your chalk lines. Are you not using red oxide? We use red and black oxide and they are permanent, npt need to clear coate. Why does your blow away? Our framing codes are very similar to yours. Cheers
I’ve never found a dye that I can add that lets them stick longer than a week. What are you using?
@@MattBangsWood oxide powder
Gopro on the head or the chest mount? I frame in the north east and wanna start filming more
Its head mount, shot on Wide-Angle (not super view or hyper view), in 4K (don’t use 5.3K, it’s too much for YT uploads)..
If you have any questions just email me: mattbangswood@gmail.com, I’d be happy to help with whatever you need to know.
@@MattBangsWood thanks I appreciate you taking the time to respond. I've been following you for a few years now and I'm glad you are still grinding out RUclips. Other than the quality and flow of videos getting better you never changed up. Real recognizes real. Keep doing your thing Matt, whether it be passing knowledge on to the next person or breaking down a set of plans, you are helping to keep the trades alive. 🫡🔨📐🪚🪜
what lumber yard are you using?
What builder was that who placed all your materials?
What news brand snap line do you use?
I use a Dewalt, just the cheapy from Home Depot. Dad's uses a Tajima.
What do you mean don’t do well with injury?
I smashed my finger the other day but was scared to say anything about it. I felt like I was gonna throw up the rest of the day lol.
All of our 9' pre cuts are 104 5/8. Thats interesting Ive never heard of them being 104 1/4
West Coast thing.. and I’ve NEVER met anyone who can tell me why!
I noticed no sill seal. Is it not required in CA?
I put it on before walls stand. Can’t do it just yet! Doesn’t stay down for me if I do it during plating.
Ahh I see got ya.
Is work slowing down in California? Up here in Seattle seems to be slowing down because inflation.
A few really good lead carpenters have reached out saying they’re about to run out.. It’s definitely a weird year! I’ve got a few frames lined up but by no means is this a record year.
Interest rates are slowing down the mortgages which slows down the building.
What was your price per sqft on this, labor only I’m assuming?
Not all that high if I’m being honest, it’s labor only. This one’s a bit lower than we’re used to, but it’s a small project.
@@MattBangsWoodI’d assume around 22 per sq ft on a banger like this?
👍✌
Do you use tajima?
I don’t, my pops does.
Hairspray works too instead of clear pro tip
I’ve always wondered why do y’all plate the walls first than make the walls. Wouldn’t it be faster to just make the wall as you go
Just preference, I’d rather layout the whole building before framing.
@@MattBangsWood cool I watch ur vids all the time
Maybe I missed something were the beach house remodel go?
Engineering issues - it's firing back up soon!
@@MattBangsWoodI gotcha bang on
Where did Fox go to?
He’s been with another builder for a while, still keep in touch from time to time. ☺️ Things get slow, people find work.
@@MattBangsWood Thanks for the reply
genuine question, has your tattoos ever had a negative affect on building rapport with a customer? only asking as I want to get a full sleeve but worried about putting customers off using me for work
I want to say no, but there's definitely been judgement, dirty looks, etc. Don't do your hands, don't do your neck or face.
I have my feet, legs, thighs, stomach, chest, arms, etc.. My back is wide open waiting for the right artist, my neck wont ever get done nor will my face. I feel those cross a line where judgement would be heavy..
Who’s the contractor on the concrete work?
I never heard of them. They’re local to us I guess. Trying to get contact info for other projects I’ve got.
The lisp lmao
wo ist FOX hin 😢

How do you like the Martinez speed square?
Hi amigo Hi from Madison Wisconsin 🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷🛠📐🔨🪚..
Hey Antonio!
Must be nice to show up with NO concern for getting it done...still popping lines at lunch? You are fired. Get off my job. You dont even know the plans? You had them DAYS before the job and are unfamiliar?... Fired. SOOOOOO SLOW. Nice to be making money beyond the framing.. is that why you are so SLOW?.... Have i mentioned.. you are fired?
There’s life beyond tract homes, my friend. ☺️ I’ve popped lines for a day or two on large homes. Also, break is 2 hours into the day. So it took 2 hours to pop lines..
Can’t fire what you can’t hire. 🫰
@@MattBangsWood you know you're doing something right when the haters come out of the wood work.
@@MattBangsWood I'm hoping this is a parody, kinda like the "replumb" channel guy?

Who knows!
What do you mean don’t do well with injury?
I smashed my finger the other day but was scared to say anything about it. I felt like I was gonna throw up the rest of the day lol.
I don’t do well with getting hurt, I pass out quick. Blood scares me. Regardless of how much I’ve seen, I still react terribly to it.
Sounds like you’re the same way. 🤣
@@MattBangsWood dude, totally haha. Kinda helping me put some things together here. I’ve always been ok with blood - my own or others but when I slam/smash type injuries something happens I nearly faint lol.
