The way the Pheonix helped Jean come to terms with her past and accepting herself is masterfully done.
You cannot tell someone what to think. If you want to help them overcome trauma and accept themselves, you can only guide them. They must come to the conclusion themselves.
The pheonix taking gentle, non-agressive forms helps with that, showing Jean it was a safe space.
10/10 comic.

You know what I love most about this comic? The dialogue. Holy hell those were words ripped from the 90s comics heyday. It felt like real comics, the comics I grew up with. And I am sooooooo for it.
That's what I felt ... this gave Clairemont and all of his discussion beyond comics. The words felt universal.. its comics like this that make me remember why I love the X-Men

@@NovaPrime5012 Firehair is just a Jean clone like Hope, Rachel, and so many more. Even though she came before Jean, in reality Jean is the first host of the phoenix in our time. Plus it breaks canon that Phoenix had human hosts before when it never experienced emotions until bonding With Jean, yet it had tons of hosts before her. Everyone else are copies and lesser versions. Also, Phoenix is not Thor's mom, she just breathe life back into him, he is very much son of Gaia and Odin.
@Ephideltrance my man 4 months ago I know this is late but since marvel data base is becoming it's own wiki. Lady Phoenix or mother phoenix is the first to hold the phoenix as it's host and from the recon of that story line for many years thor had a connection to fire. It was stated. And if you don't believe me go to marvel data base she is thors mom (allegedly). Stuff gets recon once in awhile and it stays dude. Regardless what you say. Until it changes from another writer it stands as is.

It’s so symbolic that the Phoenix is much smaller and Jean is able to hold it in her hands and put it inside her body. It’s a tell tell sign of how much control Jean has of it now. The growth even shows through the illustrations along with the writing perfectly. Jean is literally analyzing the phases she’s gone through with herself as well as the Phoenix side by side. All while the Phoenix is helping her to realize this is the way she should’ve approached everything all along and that their bonding was always meant to be. It’s a testament to jeans destiny as one of the most powerful entities in the marvel universe and comic universe overall. Not only is she gaining the power she’s the one that’s always been and has always been capable of controlling it fully. I feel bad for anything that tries to face this version of Jean. In fact it’s hard to imagine who marvel would even put up against her.

This was a remarkably beautiful comic. I know you were not planning to cover this story, but I am so happy you did. I love your ruminations on the complex nature of characters like Jean, who are sometimes great but reveal a unique aspect of humanity when done well.
That talk Jean had with the Phoenix force got to the deepest place in my heart, great great writing 👏🌟
That was an amazing recap. Thank you! So it has been Jean’s guilt, shame and rejections that has caused the Phoenix’s reign of destruction🤯! But as Scott said in the first and best Phoenix storyline, “Jean, you are love!” Maybe if she would remember and embrace what Scott said, Jean could truly discover the true amazing potential and ultimate mightiest power of the entity know as the Phoenix🔥
People forget Jean was powerful without the phoenix and is now stronger because of it

Actually Phoenix force clocked Jean as early as Annie Richardsons death after getting hit by the car and Jean has the largest psychic cry and immediately gets a primordial deity like the Phoenix's attention. She was actually Astral projecting in the either between life and death. This was the first time she accessed her telepathic abilities alone!
Indeed...child Jean was able to actually stop Annie's transition to death for a fraction of time. I love how this was depicted in the "X-Men Grand Design" recap
I love how well Rob "gets" Jean's relationship with the Phoenix force and the nature of their symbiosis in how Jean uses her own powers. In Jean's defense though, initially she didn't know that the Phoenix would bring her back.
Finally, Jean Grey is the Phoenix again, and is back to being the Goddess of Marvel as she should. Jean Grey as the Phoenix is so powerful, she gives others some powers of her to become overpowered lol.
Fall of X is turning out to be a huge event in the level of the original phoenix saga

There might be a war coming that definitely settle who stronger.the Phoenix vs Beyonder war.
Two biggest issues with comics are as you mentioned are - different writers with sometimes conflicting takes on characters or not a full understanding of their personality and powers.
Also, even if all writers followed a continuity- mainline comics do not end.... same stories just rehashed over and over. Like this whole comic here was done before in Phoenix: Endsong, and it was done better there. Marvel totally ignored that or silently retconned it away.
This feels like a build up to Phoenix Jean will be the figure to go head to head with the Dominion when that circles back around.

What I like about Jean is that she knows to give the force to the less powerful..to those who wouldn’t survive a street level battle.

I really think they are trying to set-up that Jean/Phoenix will become the dominion from Sins of Sinister or will be the foil to him/her. Had doubts about the whole Fall of X storyline, because it looked like "well we had enough of this set-up lets return to a different status quo." but I am digging what I have read so far.

Their writing is imprecise, and most people's confusion about the entity is understandable.
It is Eternity, not the Phoenix Force, that represents the sum total of all life throughout the multiiverse niverse.
The Phoenix Entiry represents the sum total of all *psionic* energy throughout the multiverse. As such, for all her power, she is almost certainly not as powerful as Death on a multiversal scale -even though individual hosts of the Phoenix in individual universes may or may not be more powerful than individual avatars of Death in individual universes.
Even though she can use life force and transform it into energy to do virtually anything she desires, she doesn't represent *all life.* Eternity does, instead, and Death is his equally powerful counterpart.
@@007Thanos007I thought that Eternity represented the endless matter that exists within creation, and their "sister" Infinity, represent the boundless space that matter exists within. Their true counter would be Oblivion, who represents the nothingness that the original state of creation used to be, though Oblivion is arguably the counterpart to all other abstracts in concept.
With psionic energy, that is the power behind the psyche of living beings, the consciousness, the soul, the driving force behind living things. During the run where the White Phoenix appeared to heal the universe, it was pretty explicitly stated that the Phoenix is the manifestation of the spark of life that exists and will ever exist.
From previous interactions, it's juxtaposition with Death was made more evident than the other abstracts. Including in older additions where the Living Tribunal held the Phoenix between his palms and gave an exposition on its purpose, though I would need to dig up that panel to remember exactly what he said.
Digression aside, I don't think that Eternity is meant to represent "life" rather than creation itself. Creation can exist without living existences, but the Phoenix is the driving force behind living beings as psionic energy drives it.
Unless they heavily retconned all of this recently, haven't touched anything related to the Abstract entities in recent years, I could be wrong. Historically, there's more instances of the Phoenix being stated to fulfill the role of birthing life and is explicitly stated as such than Eternity.

No one has a concrete interpretation of Phoenix Force, except it resides OUTSIDE of the entirety of Marvel Multiverse, beyond the far shore. Death offered Jean the entirety of her realm, for which she may do whatever she wants. We don't know what the current writers are cooking, we have to wait. The current releases are somewhat controversial. Phoenix Force alone is more vast in definition compared to any existing Eternity, single universe type or the multiversal. Google the scans, there's plenty in Quora.
This Marvel landscape is shining. MAN LET ME TELL YOU SOMETHIN'... Massive worldbuilding that is still fun to read and not too complicated makes my day. It's good to see it done this way.

Probably just me pulling connections out of thin air, but I get a very Bleach-esque feel from this issue.
More so from the TYBW where Ichigo gains his new zanpakuto, referencing Jean returning to /regaining the Phoenix force.
Like a "The Blade and Me", then later, "The Blade is Me" type of vibe.
Jean is the Phoenix, and vice versa.

What happened to Echo as the Phoenix? There was that whole competition to decide who was going to be the next Phoenix. I remember Echo being telepathically congratulated by the Phoenix's previous host, Jean Grey, who also gives her words of advice on controlling the entity's power. So when did she loose it?

Most likely something in line with what the MCU has in mind for her.
They had Echo lose the Phoenix months ago, while I’d like to think it’s in preparation for this and the over arching X-Men narrative (they have said the White Hot Room is broken and we know Mysterium is mined from the White Hot Room so likely this incredible metal will be linked to a future final death of the Phoenix storyline or the Phoenix going mad because people like Tony keep using it etc) but most likely her return to normal was done to make her more relatable to her MCU counterpart with her series coming out soon

I grew up with these stories, and perhaps it is just nostalgia, I just enjoyed them so much more than the Multiverse level narrative that infuses this era of comics.
There was continuity and progress instead of a reboot every year.

What I’ve learned over the years as being a Jean grey fan is that when she and the phoenix come together, this means her next The End until marvel need a quick end to a story arc or make more money.

You know, The Dark Phoenix movie could've worked for at the very end when she exploded with power above Earth, that could be her beginning of her going into Inter-Steller space, consuming the star, coming across the Shi'ar, and causing another planet to explode killing a different population. The next movie could've been it's version of Child of Light Child of Darkness. I loved seeing her lit up with the Phoenix Force in that movie!!

You'll never see the true Phoenix fight 1v1 with Beyonders. The context behind this is somewhat controversial because it involves meta textual stuff. I'm ok with Beyonder toying Phoenix, but against Jean? I heard TOAA fears the crown that's crowning everything in existence and Jean mentioned being in the "Crown".

Rachel never reached full power of the force is what Beyonder meant and was astonished Rachel kept holding herself back from reaching further within her own power. Beyonder gave her a glimpse of what she could achieve and her own power overwhelmed him. That not even Jean level of power.

In the comics beyond say if put his feet in the Hot white room he could be kill and beyond fight against Rachel Grey (Phoenix Host) and he could Not handle Phoenix power so White Phoenix of Crown so she can fight against him no problem.
You know what look doesn't get enough respect in these flashback sort of things? Redd Dayspring. Not an amazing costume, but just a legit part of Jean's life that gets glossed over or forgotten. I mean, it was her chance to raise her (kinda) son!

FYI, there was a What If... issue I believe it was "What if the Xmen lost Inferno?" and at the end of that as the Phoenix force cleansed the Earth the Living Tribunal shows up and the were some words to the effect that the Tribunal will not allow the Phoenix to return to Earth or any human, as holds it in his hands and "walks" away. That implies the Living Tribunal is more powerful, but hey this is Marvel, so who knows days, and that was a multi-verse or two ago as well, so not the same Tribunal or Phoenix I'm sure.
There was nothing "implied" in that comic....The Living Tribunal is unquestonably more powerful than The Phoenix Force.....and LOLz at the idea that Jean is even remotely Marvel's most powerful mutant when Franklin Richards could literally blink both her and the Phoenix Force out of existence with a snap of his fingers if he felt like it.

You didn't read the comic correctly, even the Court cannot go against the wishes of the phoenix, I recommend not destroying the planet and not returning but nothing more, the phoenix is the will of everyone, no one can go against that
Technically, it doesn't imply that the Living Tribunal is more powerful than the Phoenix Force, just that it has authority over the Phoenix Force. Which may mean that it has power over the Phoenix Force in some tangible sense (due to the nature of cosmic powers in marvel), and if so, that may or may not mean that it has more power over other things than the Phoenix Force does. Or it could just be that the Phoenix Force respects the Living Tribunal's authority, regardless of who would theoretically win in a fight that's never going to happen.

I know we get to see white hot phoenix jean but I love this story because it really feels like jean has become the truest version of herself due to her learn and accepting that her past actions aren't entirely her fault I know phoenix created a "fake" body for jean but she still had a version of her personality during phoenix saga so I am giving her a bit of resoponsibility for what happened during phoenix saga but not every thing that happens wiht the phoenix hosts is jean's fault and every during phoenix saga and the like it was not was not entirely her fault which was one of my big problem with the judgement day comic with the jean issue telling us how she wanted the destruction to happened and all that when she obliviously didn't and that's like saying the deaths the star brand brought on from avengers and new avengers were his fault and he wanted them like sure jean was angry and influenced the phoenix but she did not want dark phoenix to happening and she certainly was not responsible for avengers vs xmen or hyperstorm and it's bs if anyone writer or otherwise says she is because she was the first phoenix host people make their own choices

The phoenix, unlike other entities, has more connection with humanity either through Jean Gray or being the primordial force of life, and as such it is a god with human problems.
Hey Rob, love your videos and I love Jean Grey. I noticed you and cómic breakdown both stated that Jean touched hope to give her Phoenix powers. However, if you look closely, I believe the spirit of Jean touched the physical body of Jean in chains, to give THAT Jean a touch of Phoenix and therefore allow Hope to mimic THAT Jean’s Phoenix Force.
Please let me know if y’all see it any differently because that’s how I see it. Especially now that we know Jean is physically in the WHR in Immortal X-men #17, I’d say it’s a correct analysis. 😄

Rob wasn’t it established in the New Defenders that the Phoenix Force is like #4 in the multiverse Hierarchy? Where the Beyonder was even afraid of it. The only other 3 beings stronger was The one Above All, The Dominion (aka Enigma / The Crown Above All) and the Pilgram (Queen of Nevers).
Who the hell is Crown above all? I thought One Above all is number one and always has been.
@@BiG-JuPO1O1i agree that the one above all is supposed to be #1. But marvel keeps changing its hierarchy so I’m no longer sure. The Enigma (aka Dominion or Crown above all) is shown as a giant crown that was cut into 5 sections. 1 section was trees, 1 was a regular crown, 1 was fire, 1 was pink worms (picture legion from Castlevania) and the last was tech that looks like a spaceship. Each section over a different terrain. Very ominous and not much else was given.
Queen of nevers doesn't climb that high, she is above eternity but below oblivion and the beyond realm, the fact that she was there before HOI was because she was deanvulating, her realm is much lower

Classic Xmen backup story is the first instance of what happened the first time the Phoenix died on the moon.

Once more Marvel have written themselves into another plot hole they need to fix and have it where the Phoenix returns to save her one true host in Jean Grey again.
But I'm calling this right now if they have to where Nimrod is even more powerful than the Phoenix at the conclusion of this entire Saga then they're basically saying nimrod is just as powerful as mistress death. Which by the way now that I think about it Marvel never did go back to that one thing that the Scarlet Witch had gave the mutants to have which helps them alleviate their Resurrection process.

Jean is a great character, but I find doing the Phoenix story with her yet again is like an overplayed song. Maybe it'll be great, but I wish they'd come up with new original adventures for her to get carried away into.
