THAT'S what a trumpet is supposed to sound like! Always thought so. He's been my trumpet hero for 50 years or so. And still playing amazingly well, especially for 90+ years old! Rock on, Doc!

Wasn't it always a treat to stay up late...or sneak downstairs to the only TV,...and watch Johnny & Ed & Doc really having fun while doing their job? And the guests were great, It was such a marvelous show! I feel lucky to watch these clips. Every so often a surprise guest like Dean Martin or Frank Sinatra. I feel like I grew up in a great age of TV!
(And no buying an expensive cable or wireless service. Just buy the TV, plug it in, & adjust the rabbit ears!)

Can't believe that tone. I played cornet from grade school into college but never made notes like he does and never heard them from someone else. He played a concert here in town a few years ago and I was able to have a conversation with him. A really down to earth person!

Yes, I thought Harry James was incredible, but would have to vote for Doc. Now if I could just remember the fingering . . . .

One of the great American Standards which have held up over the decades. Doc's and the vocals by Jo Stafford are the standards everyone is measured by.

This is a fine example of the music I grew up with. My mother entertained us with songs like this and I still like hearing it now and then, Doc was special... His interpretations, and the charts he and his band played to were so ... I dunno... tight. Always spot on.

Shades of a bygone era, shades of the best ever, The Tonight Show with the master, Johnnie Carson! Doc and the boys could wail!

Such control. This is the best version of Stardust I've ever heard and I've heard a lot including Al Hirt's beautiful rendition.

So nice...these old Command recordings were the best of their day for sound quality too. It is hard to imagine that this dates from the sixties, but it does.

Doc played much better than Harry James I think that's just my opinion commenting: Barbara Gray

You are so correct! Another good example is Enoch Light's Persuasive Percussion. Command records meant excellent sound quality and a very good signal to noise ratio.

Doc executa seu Trompete, colocando a alma nos lábios. Esse, como diria meu antigo Mestre: " Toca com gosto". Esplêndido.

Nice tribute, but why has no one ever uploaded Doc's greatest LP in my opinion from 1965, High - Wide & Wonderful, which has him playing 2 trumpets at the same time on every track. Now that would be awesome to hear.
