First attended one of Doug's concerts in 1972. His whole band got sick that night. Doug came on stage and gave us the best 2 hour solo performance I have ever seen. The man is not only a great artist he is the real thing. Bless him.
68 year old canadian listened to doug from the age of 14 miss his music . I had an 8 track tape player in my 64 pontiac thats all i played till i wore it out miss his style
Life time Cajun here and I been depressed for almost 25 years wonderin what the hell happen to my heritage and culture. I spent the last couple hours listening to Doug's youtube videos and he brought me out of depression instantly! One of the most unsung, underated Cajun musicians out there that hardly any Cajuns give any credit to. He don't act like he lost his Cajun roots at all. He aint chasin nothin trying to bring it back. Like a time capsule of the 70's. The dude is HAPPY! Or he snorts a ziploc bag full of cocaine every hour on the hour. Hats off to you Doug. When you comin home? Thanks Wilson. Oh and you too Steve. LOL.
I was a little depressed for a week believe it or not I turned on some music the first thing I heard was a banjo .I said yes that is what I been missing
As did I. As well as BB, Freddie, Willis Alan Ramsey, Michael Murphy, Amboy Dukes, Springsteen, Savoy Brown, on and on. I lost the posters in a fire. That was such a COOL place. Red beans and rice, and couches!
Great entertainer and friendly person. I saw him several times when I lived in the Greeley Co area in the 80's and early 90's. Met him once there. He is a real person and appreciates his fans.
Excellent! Love you Doug! Don't ever change! Just an admirer that appreciates your way of playing your instruments and they way you sing! Ever time I hear you and watch you it lifts up my heart! Just wanted you to know this. Hope someone tells you how much you really mean to so many people! Thank you! 😁✌❤
Doug you are still as awesome as the first time I saw you on the Porter Wagoner TV show years ago I was just cruising RUclips and thinking about who in my 49 yrs. has influenced me the most musically and I thought to myself Doug Kershaw that's who You Sir are a true entertainer. I'm in South Cacalacky are you planning any tour dates around here coming up or anywhere else please let me know if you play a date soon I really would love to catch one of your live shows sometime Thanks and all the best to you and your family Tony from SC
In high school. Turned on TV at midnight. Tall skinny guy, looked like a green bean with a violent. Broke a string sawing it off. A girl with a camera on front row pointed at Doug. He broke another string. Sat down on the stage. Motioned to her give me the camera. Had time to take her picture. Very impressed with this guy. What a happy heart. Ayyyyooooooo!
This man is one of the few that started a life long love of Cajun Music for me. That started about 30 years ago. He is a few years older than the last time I saw him... But he is still the badass Cajun I remmber
Wilson, this is great on a couple different levels. The story. The instruments. The history. Nice work capturing it for the rest of us. Tim in San Diego.
Thanks Wilson! Danced to you and the band every time you come to CA. 2 things you learned from this shot. Always turn off the cameraman's cel phone. When doing head shots use manual focus.
I LOVED THIS! I watched it wistfully, thinking how authentic it sounds, how heart touching it feels and wishing I was sitting there with a glass of ice cold lemonade while the master and young lion make beautiful music. If you stop the video at 3:36 you get a wonderful photograph.
I believe this music will never die. Yes today's music is total crap. But it's the crappy so called music that will bring this high quality music back. And it will be new all over again. Like you, I'm so grateful to have lived in the Times I did. Hearing this great man play and learning about the other greats as well, grandpa Jones and string bean and all the others. It will be back.
I think the first time I saw Doug Kershaw was some time in the late sixties. Maybe on Hootenany? Just before I grew up. Love his music and play cajun on my guitar. Wish I was there.
Greezy39, I ain't Cajun but I know exactly what you mean about yer roots. Same thing up here in East Tennessee Appalachians. Seems like everbody's ashamed of their heritage here too. Talk th way we wuz raised an learnt, an then ye hafta explain yerself. I'm proud of what's dyin out. Mr. Kershaw does fan a breath of fresh air. (Not airs put on) if ye know what I mean. He SOUNDS authentic instead of put on. Very few mountain music artists around here, confused fer the most part with nose singin, out pickin yer partner so called bluegrass.
Was or is he back in Louisiana ? Doug still sounds the same as he did yrs ago. Steve , is so fortunate to be able to do this album with Doug Maybe someday I will meet him, Doug is on my Bucket List to play "Jolie Blonde " with . Thanks Wilson for sharing this wonderful video !
What a hoot! Doug is a great vocal and entertainer as well as fiddler. It would be way cool if someone could get him to make an appearance at Balfa Heritage Week or Elkins Davis music week.

Yea, I feel the same way, how did this Louisiana music and dance culture escape us older folks. Used to attend many Louisiana & Cajun music feasts in Upstate NY & NYC. Just one event I remember of in NYC was at Connolly’s Pub (Times Square) 121 W 45th Street, NYC. However today with the NYC crime rate & non-prosecution crime policy is not a place for me to visit.
Breezy McGill, th sound' be purity. Mountain, and from what I hear, Cajun music, no matter how fast or foot stomping's got a meller, somewhat soft undercurrent. Neither one can be "put on" and then sound authentic. Th rhythm seems to flow molasses, even an steady, complementing any embellishments, not the other way around. I reckon authentic mountain and Cajun music, is influenced by the culture it sprung from. Like Blues: nobody, to my untrained critical ear, can sing the blues like black folks. They, like you said, can sing it from the heart.

We saw Doug Kershaw at Liberty Hall in Houston, Texas. What an exotic treat, that was before he was discovered by the big time., in the early 1970’s.
As did I. As well as BB, Freddie, Willis Alan Ramsey, Michael Murphy, Amboy Dukes, Springsteen, Savoy Brown, on and on. I lost the posters in a fire. That was such a COOL place. Red beans and rice, and couches!

Been to France many times. What Acadia then Louisiana did was to make pure gold from the French roots.
Love this guy. Guess this is what music sounds like when you chase Gators in a swamp for lunch, talking in French, type of.
Doug is what us Cajuns would call a couillon
Brise mon coeur but still da king!!!
Les coeurs peuvent être réparés
Encore en forme M Kershaw!
J'aime ça quand il chante en français. Moi aussi c'est la langue de mon coeur, comme les Cajuns.
