Kikuchi actually hasn’t lowered his FIP by much at all, yet his ERA has plummeted. It seems like the Astros managed to unlock whatever was preventing him from living up to his expectations.
He was great with the Jays, he just had a mix of getting unlucky, relief pitchers inheriting his runners and them scoring, and pitching badly in his last 6 starts. He had runs like he’s had since he’s been traded with the Jays. He’s the same pitcher, just having a run of good starts right now.
Kikuchi should be better than B+. The guys the Astros gave up wouldn’t have played, especially Will Wagner. Loperfido still strikes out to much. They are 6-0 are Kikuchi in his starts. Wouldn’t be in first without him.
Don’t get me wrong, Kikuchi has been great, but that package though was a ton man 😂 The difference with say the Padres giving up that much for Scott/Hoeing/Adam is Hoeing and Scott are under a ton of control, and the Marlins/Rays got back guys like Snelling/Lesko who weren’t performing well prior to the trades. Giving up Bloss plus Wagner AND Loperfido is a ton for a rental. If they sign him to an extension though, that would be help.
Kikuchi trade was brilliant, at least an A. Would have been nice to bank Loperfido et al for the future (they weren’t helping us at the time) but we would be out of the division race with a 4 man rotation until JV came back. It’s not just missing out on Kikuchi’s wins, it’s bullpen games using up relievers who were already struggling. With JV back having a 6 man rotation is great for Arrighetti (rookie), Blamco (1st year as a starter), and JV (old & coming back from IL). I give the trade a huge share of the credit for our lead in the ALW.
@@rhyde I hear ya!! Giving up that many chips makes it hard but even knowing that I’d still give an A for performance but you explained the B+ to a ’T’. Good video!
For the Orioles trades: Trading for Dominguez: A- (He has given up home runs because the umpires won’t give him the call unless it’s thrown down the middle of the plate) Trading for Rogers: F- (He sucked in the majors and somehow is doing worse in the minors) Trading for Gregory Soto: C- (Yes, he has had his bad starts, but had been solid recently and the prospects that they given up were injury prone) Trading for Austin Slater and Livian Soto: B+ (Slater has been solid with them and they only gave up cash) Trading for Eflin: A (Eflin has been incredible, but got injured) Trading for Jimenez: B+ (He has been solid and they gave up a prospect that had no future with the team)
14:32 Efflin is already back and is indeed doing fine. He started Sunday against the Rockies, went 7 innings (starting with 5 perfect innings) and had 9Ks and only 1 run.
I was a doubter on the Kikuchi trade, but the man has stepped up and kicked ass. The Astros aren't where they are without Yusei's performance. A+ so far.
Did I miss it or is there no discussion of the nationals? Almost all of their trades look amazing right now. They got rid of Thomas at the time. The pitcher they got for Jesse is pitching amazing in the minors. The Thomas trade is turned out amazing. They got a major league, ready guy that’s an improvement in their lineup and they got a star pitcher in the minors.
I decided to pass on talking about Thomas. In hindsight probably should have included it because he’s been terrible, but then again I already gave CLE a bad grade last time, and WSN got a good grade, so there wouldn’t have been much of a difference
Soto on the orioles has honestly been pretty good. Absolutely abysmal start but is on like 8 or 9 scoreless appearances since then. I think it was a good trade for them
In hindsight, I’d probably bump it up but man he was rough in the beginning. I’m afraid of that coming back since he’s always been inconsistent in his career.
@@rhyde yea it’ll be interesting to see how he does down the stretch. But I still think overall it’s a good trade. Soto has a lot of upside and they barely gave up anything for him. if they can tap into that for the postseason that’s huge for them
Honestly with him being waived (and then now claimed by cross state rival Kansas City), Tommy Pham really was just given up for a bag of chips all for nothing (the plain Fritos ones probably)
Soto has had 2 bad games as an Oriole that really inflates his stats, but in 10 of his 12 appearances he hasn't given up a run. Not an F grade whatsoever lol
Puk has been an absolute beast for the dbacks and we have 2 more years of control on him… yes we gave up de Los santos but I think at the moment it was worth it
As a Marlins fan, I'm so happy for Puk and Bell. They are high-class veterans who will compete and produce. Liking what I'm seeing from DDLS. Good bat.
Trevor Rodgers deal was horrible from the start. Not sure what they seen in him. Nothing more than a 5th starter. Can't pitch deep into games, doesn't throw hard or get strikeouts. Had a goofy rookie year he's still getting hype over.
Kikuchi actually hasn’t lowered his FIP by much at all, yet his ERA has plummeted. It seems like the Astros managed to unlock whatever was preventing him from living up to his expectations.
the slider is deadly now
they changed his off speed and fastball up, using off speed more and working off the cutter, cutter being up and the slider going down.
Yep Slider up 20%, Curveball down about 20%, and throwing the FB more up in the zone like Jackson mentioned.

Robbie!!!!! Kikuchi DESERVES A+++++ When the Astros have gone 6-0 in his starts there’s something worthy of an A going on. Give him his flowers

For us Hays has been injured and is just coming up so you guys won the trade
Potential insult to injury, Phillies just called Seth Johnson up this morning from the Soto trade
Twins had the funniest deadline for sure. Trade for 1 guy, Trevor Richards. DFA him 3 weeks later
Keep up the good work Robbie
🫵❤️
JD Gonzalez has one of the best pop times in milb. 1.77. Future major leaguer for sure

Great pick up for them
The Soler trade also brought back RP Luke Jackson who has stunk so far here in the ATL.
Yeah I didn’t even bother mentioning him because he was basically a throw in 😂
@@rhyde Keep up the great work Robbie, you and Jim Riley from Ballcap have the best baseball channels!
@@rhyde 🙏😭 I need them to dfa Luke this second, he's awfu.l
Bro, any chance you could look into the last 5 days of era for Astros pitchers during the next power rankings? Would love that, love the show!
Astros SP has been so good in the 2nd half. Ranks 1st in fWAR during that time.
Twins were obviously the biggest winner this deadline
😂😂😂

I should have been a bit more clear in the video. Kikuchi himself is an A or A+. The trade itself knocks it down a notch for me though.
A.J Puk trade should of been included he’s been lights out for AZ
Wanted to mention him, but just too many trades
2:38 he came in clutch tonight with the go ahead RBIs and been solid so far in short and center

Id have to give the Dbacks an A+ for the Puk trade so far
Completely agree. Would have thrown that in there, but the video was at 25 minutes already 😩
The Lane Thomas trade is looking really good for Nats
Huuuuge
Honestly with him being waived (and then now claimed by cross state rival Kansas City), Tommy Pham really was just given up for a bag of chips all for nothing (the plain Fritos ones probably)
HEY! I like plain Fritos!
Whenever the Yankees or dodgers make deals they seems to always knock it out of the park
Right???
Soto has had 2 bad games as an Oriole that really inflates his stats, but in 10 of his 12 appearances he hasn't given up a run. Not an F grade whatsoever lol
He’s always been inconsistent in his career. I don’t trust him whatsoever especially in the postseason.
You're gonna change your tune when he blows the AlCS for you
I knew the Phillies should have traded for jazz 🤦♂️

I believe The Tigers said Skubal was unavailable
Everyone’s available at the right price
Are you doing power rankings this week?
Probably not this week with Labor Day weekend
stowers been taking
Taking what?
You forgot about the padres getting Martin Perez, he’s been decent for them so far, and they basically gave nothing up (coming from a padres fan)
Didn’t forget, just didn’t want to make the video too long. There were just so many trades 😂
@@rhyde that’s true
Mariners deserve an F for this season. Triple F if they salary dump Randy this offszn
Jesse Winker one of the most underrated rental pick up
Wanted to mention him too, but again, just too many trades
@@rhyde of course my man. totally understandable. another banger video 🔥
