- Two F-15 Eagles lead the Hornets through the Mach Loop (LFA7 Low level training) in North Wales from the USS HARRY S TRUMAN

If I lived in the Mach Loop, I would put out signs that said things like "If your turbines are not cutting my grass, you are not flying low enough."
I was in the Gulf back in 1990 with 409 Sqn of the CAF, stationed out of Doha. We ground crew were getting kind of bored and asked a couple of pilots if they could do something a little more interesting. So when the two pilots took off for their CAP mission, they lifted off, retracted their gear, and flew the length of the runway at about 20' off the deck before climbing.
The next day, we said to two different pilots that Capt's So and So did this yesterday, surely you can do better. Well these two pilots took up the challenge. When they lifted off the runway, they immediately retracted their gear and then moved over to side, lined up on the ground crew servicing shack that was about 40' from the edge of the runway. There is nothing quite like seeing a pair of loaded CF-18s coming straight at you, with sand billowing in the vortices coming off the two jets. The two jets passed directly overhead with the lead performing a fairly standard shallow climb. The other pilot decided to go into a steep climb almost directly overhead. We had a canvass military tent set up as a shaded area with one side tied to the side of the servicing shack. The blast from the one jet's exhaust tore every grommet out of that tent, causing the tent to collapse on top of us. The pilot was "shitting bricks" for his whole 6 hr CAP since the lead pilot, who had been watching in his mirror, told him he had just blown down the servicing shack. Fortunately nobody suffered anything more than a couple of bumps and bruises.
This is how we cut the grass in my country ruclips.net/video/ceDz8WgcexA/видео.html
The super hornet is a very underrated jet . It doesn’t get the love that the F15 and F16 get but it is a very good plane that should never be underestimated
What is the difference between Super Hornet and regular Hornet?
Chuck Beef the super hornet is bigger , has more range , carries more bombs and has more advanced electronics and I think a better radar although I think some of the legacy hornets have gotten radar upgrades recently that are the same radar as the super hornet
The reason i ask is my country uses F-18, CF-18 and CF-188 but our stupid prime minister wants to buy Australias old F18’s rather than F35’s or Super Hornets. Doesnt make a lot of sense to me, even if the F18 is a formidable gen IV fighter.
Chuck Beef you can blame Boeing spitting their dummy out for that... They lodged a complaint that bombardier were under bidding for a contract that Boeing couldn't actually bid on as they don't produce anything that fits the brief... Canada's response: those Super hornets... fucking keep them.
The F-35 is inevitable, eventually Canada will order them as:
1: they can't wait long enough for anything else to be developed
2: The Typhoon, Rafale & Grippen while ok today will be obsolete long before Canada is ready to replace them.
3: Boeing effectively blacklisted themselves so the F-15 and F/A-18E/F are out.
@@ChuckBeefOG It's basically an entirely new plane that just looks similar. It's quite a bit bigger. Drag on both is a bit higher than other jets, but if equipped with the EPE engines, it's actually competitive with all of the Gen 4 jets on kinematics and almost nothing can touch it at low speed.
Nice to see Hornets in the Mach Loop. Almost as cool as seeing Tornados flying the Star Wars Loop here in the US... 😎
I take it that F18 took everyone by surprise, came out of nowhere
They fight like velociraptors. One says, "look at me, look at me" while the other sneaks up on your ass and destroys you. lol
Must be auditioning for the Blue Angels by doing their Sneak Pass. =D
Exactly! He caught him off guard! : )
The second Hornet is the CAG-bird (300) from VFA-136 "Knighthawks".
Great to see!
My kids enjoyed watching this video of their Dad. Thank you.
Thanks, we were hoping to see more of them! but what we saw was great.
Mach loop......coolest videos on RUclips!!!...🤘🤘🤙
Bucket list being at Mach Loop
You must spend hours in all weathers waiting for these opportunities. Great video as always 👍
Best job in the world.wish I was up there with them.great up load.thank you🙃🙃👍👍
We have F-18 hornets in Canada too.... they have lots of duct tape tape holding them together but that helps absorb radar so we are invisible to the enemy, with all 6 of our planes. Don’t mess with Canada! 🇨🇦
lol us aussies have them too but they bought superhornets now and 75 f35s
dude wats with the NZ vid
Canada has an Air-Force? I though they just sponged off of the US for their Air-Defense?
Brian D. Yup, we sponged off USA for years since Korea war is my guess?? Trump is clamping down on us and other nato countries so everyone puts more in, which is totally fair imho.
Anyone who messed with Canada especially on D-Day and the following period got the message they couldn't forget alright.
When I heard about the training I knew there was a good chance of some activity in the Loop. Thanks for capturing it for us!
First time I have ever seen F-18 Super Hornets at the Mach Loop.
Elwyn thank you for the opportunity to be there but not in person but when I do it in the Mach Loop I'll be there and That's is going to happen and thank you for the videos for 2018 and Happy New Year 2019 Mach loop
Incredible and beautiful 🤩😁
Supreme takes, great job!
What an amazing jet, no wonder blue angles are or have already switched to them, but If you've ever seen their show live.. what they do with the legacy fighters is shocking. Also, the hornet is one of the few fourth gen jets that doesn't lose substantial maneuvering when loaded out for war. Here is an example compared to a su35 loaded out for war: ruclips.net/video/3gX_vZB-2nE/видео.html crazy ability to maintain energy even when loaded out... imagine how good the f22/35a are when loaded... they're ALWAYS flying 'clean' ....great vid btw, keep em coming, Ill keep watching.
Awesome vid guess that second hornet just sneaked passed you lol. Once again great and awesome vid.
It's funny how at certain distances and angles, the Super Hornet almost looks like a Foxbat. The big LERXs mimic intakes, just with a little more contour.
Lmao he got snuck up on 😆... In true hornet fashion.
Always great videos that you share. Totally Awesome! Thank you!
Well done!
These hornets were there as part of the filming of the new Tom cruise Top Gun Film..
No, this is Wales UK a few years ago now
1:43 was he waving his wings at you?
For sure
BlandNutz def. looks like
Like the salute from the last jet, thats a nice acknowlagement to you guy's on that hill side Elwyn.
Fantastic footage Elwyn R
X-Wings.
Those TIE fighters are in trouble.
I would say #2 superhornet fly past has caught my eye...
F-15's are from a local Airbase, RAF Lakenheath
Wait for it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)
Thx Elwyn.
Beautiful stuff!
If you ever get a chance check out the Blue Angels, Freaking awesome!
Id love to! Im going to have to cross the pond one day to see them.
@@ElwynR they are retiring their legacy hornets and going to supers
Elwyn R come on down to the US and watch the blue angels, or even the thunderbirds with there f-16s, there both great!
Heyy Cheers Elwyn as always great footage hope your well dude"" Tc
Elwin, quick question?
Do you get a heads up when there are gonna be flights through the area? Or do you literally have to spend days up there waiting for those amazing Mach Loop vids you put out?
Spend Day's up there Im afraid www.mjaviation.co.uk/MachLoop.htm
As far as I recall, this data is kept secret until a few days before. There is an online resource published by the RAF but it's very hit or miss. A few fellow wing watchers I know camp up there for days with radios on frequency until they hear something.
Flyin' Dirty at 0:45
And clean at 1:00
Top gun
Super Bugs!!!
Awesome footage! Was wondering what's the latest gear you are using to catch them on video? Would love to capture my own footage and have been saving up for some good gear. Sorry if this has been asked before. I understand if you don't want to tell me your set up, "a magician never reveals his secrets". Thanks
sneaky...
WOW
0:58 out of nowhere
Correction: "Super Hornets OVER the Mach loop"
Woohoo 🎉
how rare is it to see an f-18 fly anywhere in the world are they rare or uncommon cose there a retired jet i think
still plenty of F-18 in service
@@ElwynR nice i saw one when i was in scotland last year flying over the beach at my caravan park we were next to RAF Lossiemouth on Embo beach it was awsome to watch
All what mean is russian afreid. Us navy super hornet is canoon and tank.
Well, you are right. I'm standing with an unbiased view. Their fighters are amazing, props to the engineers
Don't get gored by any rhinos...
Donde fue esta wea hermano?
how fast were they going?
Listen to the radio chatter on the video and the pilot will say it.
Were those yank pilots or brits flying those aircrafts?
Huh? The UK doesn't have F-15s or F/A-18s...
U.S Navy or Marines.
@@d.o.p.echart9483
USMC doesn't fly the Super Hornet. They fly legacy F-18 Hornets. The F-15's were flown by the USAF.
@@TheLAGopher I’m not sure if the CAF has super hornets or legacy hornets or both but I know that most of the hornets going through the Mach loop belong to the CAF. It’s pretty rare to see USN jet’s through there but it does happen like in this video.
morcegos aviao
Pleas stop zooming in that much, its about the scenery! We have all seen f18 fly...
You must spend hours in all weathers waiting for these opportunities. Great video as always 👍
