What we need are laws which also hold the parents of these garbage "teens" accountable. If these parents had been doing their jobs then this sort of thing would be rare.

Sad part about this is people will not learn. These are crimes of opportunity. They know there will always be a group of people that will think this kind of thing never happens in their nice neighborhood or couldn't possibly happen to them. As much as this kind of thing happens all over people continue to leave their doors open to their cars. No neighborhood is safe from this type of crime people. This is how these kids get firearms which lead to other serious crimes. You end up unintentionally supplying criminals with the tools they need to commit other crimes. Get into the habit of keeping valuables out of your car and keeping those car doors locked.
At fault are the criminals. In most countries of the world like Japan no one steals and you can leave the doors open. They just lack diversity there, that have almost no immigration and most of all they do not have people like you who blame the victims.
In Saudi Arabia try would cut off their finger. It works. Perhaps people like you are offended by that and that the reason why America has such a crime problem.
Seize everything they have and make them prove it isn't stolen.

WHY do "these crimes happen far more often than they should" ???? Little to no consequences and the judicial system generally protects these feral teens from being identified. Our system is in need of a complete overhaul starting wirh leniency due to criminals being juveniles.

Seen this kind of stuff at the ABC veterans thrift shop..But they were older homeless people doing it .They were checking all door handles to see if left open..

There should be a 3 strike penalty for crimes like this. 1st time 2 years probation and community service. 2nd time 2 years in jail, 3rd time 5 years

They shouldn’t have given the kid that left his car unlocked so much attention. In his mind now he’ll be on social media bragging about being on tv and he got back his $700.
Here in milwaukee Southside, a black teen was trying to do the same in a Mexican neighborhood. They beat the crap out this black teen and put it up on social media. Can you believe they don't steal inthat neighborhood anymore. No cops needed.

“He’s usually really good about locking his doors”. Yeah….somehow I don’t believe that. Don’t leave ANYTHING in your car you wouldn’t mind getting stolen from you. Because if the thieves can see it--locked or not--if they want it--they taking it. I won’t even leave spare change, a pack of smokes or even clothing in my car.

Give them punishment , not a slap on the wrist, I was attacked by a teenage girl years ago, we went to court, the judge said she had anger management issues and told her to be a good girl in the future…………😢

So, the story is mostly about people forgetting to lock/not locking their car doors. Still, who leaves $700 laying around in their personal vehicle, any time, for any reason??? His mother says that her son, Django, is usually really good about locking his door. However, I couldn't help but notice the upside down bottle dropper in the glove compartment labled "Cannabinoid." I have a feeling that she does not know, or does not care to know, why he is forgetful about locking his car door. JUST SAYING...

I hope the teens get community service at the exact minimum wage, and are forced to work off all of the damage through to pay off all the damage, insurance rate increases, stolen property value at new purchase price, and vehicle cleaning fees.
