Thank you for your time putting out a very good video. I have a 85-90 Mal-lab mix. After year 1 1/2 I switched to a complete raw diet at 1.5 lb of food daily. I recently changed from 2 times a day to 1 which is in the evening. He gets around 3-7 miles a day on mountain hikes off collar his pace varies depending on what he is doing. I only feed in evening so he can relax and digest his food slow and to help prevent any chance of bloating or flipping his stomach. He is an athlete that is fast and powerful and getting out going hard can be very dangerous. I follow basically the BARF diet the results have been amazing.

When he was a puppy I fed him twice a day and then when he was about 12 months I began feeding him once a day as I have been 'intermittent fasting' for the past 35 years and it seemed obvious to me that a dog should eat only once a day when you look at a dog's digestive system, one big sack and a short tube to the backside.
Even though they did see this with the owner responses they got…they even said the this just means it warrants further investigation. It’s not definitive at all. I personally don’t think as a Vet tech for over 20 years that it’s healthy for them to have one meal a day. That’s too much volume for one day and really their blood glucose levels would be better regulated actually with two meals. Also, large breed dogs could bloat with a once a day volume
My beagle going to 3 yrs and suddenly,he just eat once a day and still very healthy ,energetic! No matter what food I fed ,he just ignore it eat it his way!
Hi @@RachelFusaro my vet recommended me to feed my small dog 3 small meals a day and my border collie one when she goes to her crate to prevent bloating.
I have a mini dachshund who I’m sure would do fine with once a day. My chihuahua on the other hand would do fine with non stop eating 😣 I feed them twice a day but would love to move to once because of everything in your video. Definitely they beg more or at least the chihuahua does. Also I am a shift worker & that’s been a struggle for picking times of day. I’ve been trying to stick with -every 12 hours but now that seems too far apart. Ugh. I don’t know what to do. I make their food myself about every 6 weeks. Freeze it. They each get a quarter cup. We get good long walks in about 45’-an hour each or every other day. I just moved to 8 hour night shifts which is different & they seem to be having trouble waiting the full 12 hours but it’s probably just because I’m up & awake & notice. 😂
My dog gets reflux if he doesnt eat often enough. He has unlimited access (he can ask for food using a talking button & he gets it in enrichment toys/bowls only) because he's able to stop when he's no longer hungry & he's not overweight at all, his weight is stable. This way he's able to adjust on his own depending on his activity level, which can vary since we're heavily involved in dog sports. Which is amazing, and as long as he's not overweight I dont think im ever going to stop. My cats eat once a day because they are a little overweight (obviously they are much less active) and they never had any issue with it. I would say it totally depends, listen to your pets' needs and adapt...
What do we do when we don't want or like to feed kibble AT ALL!! All or most of these toys are for Dry FOOD!!! Even if we make our own treats like dehydrated liver bits or dehydrated kidney ,lung ,chicken etc this is still not a meal. These toys like a shuffle mat or these toys they push around and dry stuff fall out are not appropriate. I don't know. Any dry extruded kibble with grain or not is, I feel when feeding raw is not appropriate.
Taking the study with a grain of salt since it's a meta-analysis of data points - which only associates data points to expected (and possibly biased) outcomes and is not a real world result. Instead, a longitudinal study of a set of dogs throughout their lives that results in certain outcomes, if it showed the same outcomes as this analysis of data, would be helpful.

Im worried about cross infection because i have low immunity myself as does my mum and thats part of what worries me about raw. I just want so much to get it right but be as safe as possible! So excited to find your community and thanks so much for your content i just find listening to your advise really relaxing 😘and i am in love with Finn, honestly he’s the best!
I feed my dog twice a day and she is perfect weight soooo. and when I eat only once a day I feel sick and bloated. better to have two small meals and close together 6 - 7 hours so etophogy can take place
Mine (all eight) eat on demand. No food insecurity within the pack. They all have their own bowls and place. They eat alot less since there's no competition or stress eating.
My 11 month old whippet cross gets fed twice which was decreased from his puppy 3. But he still doesn’t eat it all but wants more an hour later. I’m trying to hold off treats to only when necessary and not getting anywhere. He just wants to graze all day
I feed my girl once a day as well and she has no issues I feed her in the early afternoon because of the times that we train in the morning. I have a 2 year old Cane Corso and she weighs 97lbs which is a great weight for her breed. We compete in high level sports and it works for us! We are also on a raw diet!
I’ve just got this pumpkin powder thanks to you and his poop has definitely improved as he has had 3 bouts of bloody diarrhoea and I am adding lots of meat and veg and lowering the kibble until I get it right thanks so much for the information ❤
Our Mini Schnauzer has Congenital Myotonia and is on a med three times daily with food. I feed him one main meal and then he gets his pills inside Easy Pill covers. Best we can do!
Buy a bag of chicken leg quarters , freeze them and feed your dog ONE frozen leg quarter every day, you dog can easily digest raw uncooked chicken bones and get calcium from them!!! Plus no carbs, some fat from the skin, plenty of protein, and its cheeper than dog food!!! If your dogs is small breed place chicken in a bag and beat it with a hammer then freeze it, no need to worry about salmonella. Your welcome!! Oh and fyi i have been doing this for several years now w no problem....Credit for this tip goes to Peter caine dog trainer on RUclips
My yorkipoo is 1 and she has been rejecting her food. She doesnt eat in the morning and in the afternoon she’ll jus nibble on little pieces. Idk if she is bored of the food or what but i have tried toppers and she will still look at me like im crazy. Any ideas!?
START MAKING HER FOOD with REAL HEALTHY INGREDIENTS.. I feed my 10lb chi a plain scrambled egg with 1/4 tsp chia seeds in morning and then lil cooked chicken or turkey with added peas for dinner… Here is a simple recipe from “Veterinary secrets” yt channel >>Simple recipe.. one-third animal protein this is ground turkey , add in some sunflower oil it's one third healthy carb we have sweet potato then one third veggies I made up some peas this would be a standard meal for a little 20 pound dog> about a half a cup of the ground turkey half a cup of the sweet potato half a cup of the peas. i also give my girl mashed apples, kale, romaine, shredded carrots, blueberries and other healthy whole foods that WE people eat.👍🏻 IT IS A LIE that dogs should eat dry kibble their whole life, how would you like to eat dry kibble your whole life? They are vibrant living lil souls and need healthy whole foods and some of them are smart enough to realize that.👍🏻😊
Dont forget the feeding guide on bags are based on the health weight your dogs should weight not what he weight right now. And its also based on a 1h30 of excersise a day
@@omarbagent9829 I work in the field and we have formation about stuff like that and all. its 1h30 on intensive physical activitie for a dog and 30min for a cat.
I started feeding them once a day because if I split their food in two they were walking behind me like two hungry wolfs the whole day. now, they have to sleep after eating. I am doing it for the last seven years and they are both healthy.
I do think that every dog is different depending on weight and any pre-existing medical conditions. I adopted a 4yr old dog, 6yrs ago, who I soon after, discovered had a thyroid condition, as well as, DCM. I fed her 2x a day so she could receive her medication 2x a day with food. She made it a little over 5yrs with me before a massive heart attack took her, unexpectedly this summer. Super grateful for the time her cardiologist was able to keep her mind and body, happy and healthy. she live her best life, right up tell the very end.
My cockapoo is only 6 months old and food has been complicated. I never know what's best but also wont put me in debt. I feee her in the morning and at night im not sure but seems healthy
6 months is still very young. When they are puppies they do well with more feeding sessions, and when they are older (maybe over a year or so) you can consider slowly adjusting the amounts to wean them off multiple feeds.
My cavapoo is super picky with his food, so we’ve had to cook him homemade dinners (we’ve tried everything). He also has a poultry allergy, but he likes to eat once a day at around 3pm-7pm. He seems happy and healthy, but I do worry.
I have a cockapoo. She refused to eat dog food. I tried several kinds, wet, dry, even fresh pet. I cook her meals. Very often what I eat. ( made me eat healthier). She gets a protein, starch, and veggies. She does not like fruit. She tends to eat one meal a day. She is very healthy and the vet said she was “ perfect”.
Look up “homemade dog food earthling1984” in the RUclips search bar. I fed my Yorkie only steak everyday for like a year, which was expensive. She ate it so often that she didn’t want to eat it anymore (I don’t blame her cause I’d get tired of eating the same thing that much) I thought that because I like steak so much I was treating her well, but she had black skin on her belly (yeast I think) and her coat wasn’t as shiny as it once was. I started feeding her the homemade dog food from that earthling1984 guy’s recipes and she is completely different. Skin problems, itchiness, irregular clay-like or soft poop problems were all gone within a week. She’s spunkier and is super healthy now. I make a big pot of the food and she eats for about 2 weeks off the pot. So easy and so much more healthy. She also goes crazy for the food now
I just started feeding my 55lb and 63lb pit mix's 1 time a day. I feed raw and at random times during the day as well, and the hunger pukes have stopped completely. My 63lb dog gets 1450 oz of food a day and the 55lb gets about 1200. I have an excel spreadsheet that I input what I'm feeding and it populates the info for me. I purchased it online from a raw food youtuber. It's been great! I also do NOT let them run around for at least 2 hours after, to be safe.
My dog just had bladder stone surgery. He has too much food and water in the body. Can you please guide me on this. I could save his life, how can i reach you?
I make my 3 toy poodles fresh food with healthy ingredients, and at once a day, keeping kibble around, they have more energy than when I fed them 2 times a day!
Yeah but what do you feed? If it's just dry kibble, might not be a grand idea. If you feed something in appropriate quantities with adequate water content that is protein and fat based ( kinda like Keto - can be raw or cooked) that might be fine. Might. I think twice per day is better. Ive had several large dogs all live long healthy lives. Gut motility and *hydration* is improved with that 2x per day meal schedule. Also if someone has a dog that has high food drive eating twice per day can help prevent that dog from going bonkers. Some dogs will develop pica where they consume anything like dirt (or worse...poop!) to satisfy their need to eat. Two meals per day makes way more sense than this silly fad-like orthorexia study. I could care less what this study found (not doubting the claim though as the same intermittent fasting has similar positive effects for humans). My experience suggests 2x per day is far more sound over a lifetime. Quality of life is more important. But if your dog is happy on a once daily feeding routine, that's fine. Some dogs are like this. Generally I think twice per day makes more sense. Keeps them content.
@@Starry_Night_Sky7455 Hi! She is a high energy working breed and gets a ton of exercise a day. She is decently good motivated but more so loves her toys. I feed her a varied protein diet of probiotic kibble and frozen raw/freeze dried raw. Mostly fish protein because it’s kept her coat in great condition, as she is a shepherd so we deal with less shedding with as much fish as she gets. I add different supplements to help with joint support since she is a shepherd and very active. I also add hydration in several forms whether it be water, bone broth, or goats milk. I prefer to feed her once at night because she is running around/getting walked/playing during the day and I want to avoid any chance of her getting bloat. You bring an interesting point that twice a day meals would keep them happier, but I think that’s putting human emotion into meal time and meals. I used to think of meals in that way but have come to learn that dogs think of a meal as just that- they’re getting food, not how many times or how they feel about getting fed if that makes any sense.
I eat once a day during the week and have been for 20+ years, not because of health reasons, it was a habit I picked up accidentally through a previous job. I accidentally forgot to feed my dog recently (I was sick and slept for over 20 hours) and it got me thinking about this subject. I continued to feed her in the AM with a snack in the afternoon for the past 3 weeks. I will say she doesn’t walk as far as she did prior, we typically walked more than 2 miles in the afternoon, now it’s more like 1.5 and she needs a rest. Not sure if it’s the food or just getting older.
I feed my 2 dogs, a 9 year old Belgian Malinois and a 5 year old chocolate lab, twice a day and they are healthy, in great shape, and very active. They are so active that I have to play Chuckit with them nearly everyday, along with a long off leash romp in the woods. And besides, I know they are hungry when feeding time comes along (9am and 9pm) and I'd feel like it would be wrong not to feed them twice.
I add pumpkin to my dog's bowl at least 3-5x per week! I like to rotate my supplements, but they LOVE it so much. I really like using it on a lickmat (like this: ruclips.net/video/GClr98yaFnU/видео.html
I have been feeding pumpkin 🎃 to my dog for years . It adds natural fiber and helps with his bowl movement. I usually add a table spoon . you can adjust more or less .Depends on the weight of the dog . Start with small and increase or decrease when his poop seem s slightly firm

I am getting a fib goldendoodle standard size this week about 8 weeks from breeder, and breader telling that need to eat same food for 1 year. Breeder tell me to stick with purina chicken rice. Can i mix something good more good dog food than this? Mix it with wet food and down the road change it to better food?

My raw fed newfs I am now working down to one meal a day My male is almost three(done growing) female not two yet, but I think she’s good to eat once a day. Dr Lonsdale says random feeding times too!!!
My dog eats once a day not because I choose to but because she's not interested in her food unless she's hungry. I figure if she eats some food combined with some treats than that's good enough for the day. And I thought my dog had strange eating habits.😅😅😅
… I learn a lot from your videos and I am grateful that you are sharing your finds with us. We all should learn from each other. I feed my 12 months old GSD twice per day and unfortunately since the day I got him he is always crying before his meals and I honestly don’t have any idea what could have caused it? Sometimes I really feel like a bad pet mum …
Thank you for your kindness and your dedication to you dog. My dood Fin used to do that and I would wait quietly until he offered a calming behavior (ie sit or down) before feeding and he eventually learned that whining or barking didn’t equate food
So, if my dogs eat on a schedule ( twice a day morning and evening) how would I transition them to eating only once a day? Also I like the schedule because then I know when they will poop 😅 specially since one of my dogs is 11 months and was very challenging to potty train her! She still has accidents on the house once in a while. Help? Thanks
Just give 2 treats after poo in the Morning, Every Poo give treats only, it’s a dog they can survive on water during day untill Dinner time they will appreciate the meal more plus if they don’t finish it, leave it for Breakfast before or after morning poo, That Dinner meal will make them poo in Mornings Gracefully lol

I will speak to my vet about it and then I will apply it.
I personally feed my dogs their meals throughout the day as reinforcement for them .
Always work with a vet as I say in all of my content! I share my learnings for you to explore. Keep me posted on what your vet says
Excelent!
Hi @@RachelFusaro my vet recommended me to feed my small dog 3 small meals a day and my border collie one when she goes to her crate to prevent bloating.
I have a mini dachshund who I’m sure would do fine with once a day. My chihuahua on the other hand would do fine with non stop eating 😣
I feed them twice a day but would love to move to once because of everything in your video.
You know your dog best and sounds like a good plan!
My dog is the same. If they don't eat more than once a day, they are eating grass and puking bile every day.
My Dutch Shepherd is high-energy. I feed him twice a day.
I don’t know why but i love seeing my influencer’s partners- i know im wierd, but hi to your hubby, nice to see him! Lol.
Love love love your channel, thank you so much and i love that you want to save all the damn dogs! Im picking up my puppy on Sunday i cant tell you how excited i am, i have been preping with your videos and i just love you and your attitude to dogs. Im not completely sold on raw diet, but i was planning to give kibble so im so glad to know that isnt the best option, what is your opinion on wet dog food? Im worried about cross infection because i have low immunity myself as does my mum and thats part of what worries me about raw. I just want so much to get it right but be as safe as possible! So excited to find your community and thanks so much for your content i just find listening to your advise really relaxing 😘and i am in love with Finn, honestly he’s the best!
You are the sweetest & Mikey says hi friend!! So do the pups. Thank you for being a bright 💡 in my day today!

Link to the study please!!!!

They did a study over a period of 10 years and discovered that a dog fed once a day is far healthier than a dog fed twice a day.
Ps I feed raw !
I feed my dog twice a day and she is perfect weight soooo. and when I eat only once a day I feel sick and bloated. better to have two small meals and close together 6 - 7 hours so etophogy can take place
My dog eat twice a day morning and night.can’t do it once a day because she’ll throw up yellow
My cocker spaniel at twice a day. Lived until 16.
Mine (all eight) eat on demand. No food insecurity within the pack. They all have their own bowls and place. They eat alot less since there's no competition or stress eating.
❤️❤️ 8 dogs!? Love this!
Just curious, Why do you usually freeze your food? I'm getting a puppy for the first time and im tryna get into a routine :)
New rescue really does not seem interesting to eat more than once daily. Previous dogs wanted to eat every time I went into kitchen
Hi there!! I’m wanting to transition my malamute to eating once a day. Do you feed your girl 2 portions for dinner or just 1? Thank you!
My dog tells me when she wants her food 2 times.
New science 😂 have we not learned that scientists and doctors are liars
even humans same humans eats once a day is healthy
I’ve just got this pumpkin powder thanks to you and his poop has definitely improved as he has had 3 bouts of bloody diarrhoea and I am adding lots of meat and veg and lowering the kibble until I get it right thanks so much for the information ❤
I have a deep chested breed and they are prone to bloat. It's recommended to feed them multiple times...
Our Mini Schnauzer has Congenital Myotonia and is on a med three times daily with food. I feed him one main meal and then he gets his pills inside Easy Pill covers. Best we can do!
Yup every dog is different and this study was specific to healthy dogs. Love your dedication to your dog!
My dog has never been in side don't want to come in lgd
Make sure you have cash or insurance for bowels perforation surgery if needed, meat grinder is cheaper
My budget is telling me to like this video.
I feed my 10lb chi a plain scrambled egg with 1/4 tsp chia seeds in morning and then lil cooked chicken or turkey with added peas for dinner… Here is a simple recipe from “Veterinary secrets” yt channel >>Simple recipe..
one-third animal protein this is ground
turkey , add in some sunflower oil
it's one third healthy carb we have
sweet potato then one third veggies I
made up some peas this would be a
standard meal for a little 20
pound dog>
about a half a cup of the ground turkey
half a cup of the sweet potato half a
cup of the peas. i also give my girl mashed apples, kale, romaine, shredded carrots, blueberries and other healthy whole foods that WE people eat.👍🏻 IT IS A LIE that dogs should eat dry kibble their whole life, how would you like to eat dry kibble your whole life? They are vibrant living lil souls and need healthy whole foods and some of them are smart enough to realize that.👍🏻😊
Dont forget the feeding guide on bags are based on the health weight your dogs should weight not what he weight right now. And its also based on a 1h30 of excersise a day
Where you get the 1h30mins from tho?🧢
I agree, every dog and situation is different! And very sorry for your loss. Gosh that’s heartbreaking. she was lucky to have you
How do treats work into this. Using so many for training a young dog never allows them a fasting period.
Like she said, she feeds puppies 3-4x a day so I’m thinking that’s their meals during training! 😊
I love using meal time for training time, this way they eat AND work for food while hungry, which can build their bond with you!
Appreciate you ❤️
Thank you for this video. I learned so much. You're awesome!
Honestly it’s all my pleasure, means a lot to see your kind comment
You can't feed deep chested dogs once a day.
Actually two meals a day is best
My cockapoo is only 6 months old and food has been complicated. I never know what's best but also wont put me in debt. I feee her in the morning and at night im not sure but seems healthy
6 months is still very young. When they are puppies they do well with more feeding sessions, and when they are older (maybe over a year or so) you can consider slowly adjusting the amounts to wean them off multiple feeds.
@@ffflyin1697 thank you!!
For puppies I feed 3-4x a day as they’re still growing!
@@judimardula8685 Oh cool, that’s really good to hear. My pup doesn’t like fruit either lol.
She also goes crazy for the food now
I free feed my Husky. Although she has access to her food all the time, she eats only once a day!
It sounds like you are not feeding raw
I absolutely do not agree
I just started feeding my 55lb and 63lb pit mix's 1 time a day. I feed raw and at random times during the day as well, and the hunger pukes have stopped completely. My 63lb dog gets 1450 oz of food a day and the 55lb gets about 1200. I have an excel spreadsheet that I input what I'm feeding and it populates the info for me. I purchased it online from a raw food youtuber. It's been great! I also do NOT let them run around for at least 2 hours after, to be safe.
my dog eat 1 on day
My dog just had bladder stone surgery. He has too much food and water in the body. Can you please guide me on this. I could save his life, how can i reach you?
you have no clue
I make my 3 toy poodles fresh food with healthy ingredients, and at once a day, keeping kibble around, they have more energy than when I fed them 2 times a day!
All day lol
🤣
Carna 4 is the only kibble I would ever consider giving my dog, and not much of it,, mostly raw meat.
This makes me feel a lot better about only feeding my dog once a day! Thanks Rachel!
Go you! 👏
My dogs eat once a day
It's the same with humans but difficult for most of us to follow. It is fasting.
Yes when I started eating less frequently, it was hard at first but I have more energy!
Laggoto romagnolo!!!
Should you add the pumpkin everyday?
I add pumpkin to my dog's bowl at least 3-5x per week! I like to rotate my supplements, but they LOVE it so much. I really like using it on a lickmat (like this: ruclips.net/video/GClr98yaFnU/видео.html
@@RachelFusaro what’s the advantage of pumpkin powder to say, puréed pumpkin?
I have been feeding pumpkin 🎃 to my dog for years . It adds natural fiber and helps with his bowl movement. I usually add a table spoon . you can adjust more or less .Depends on the weight of the dog . Start with small and increase or decrease when his poop seem s slightly firm
At what age though? My puppy is 9 months and still on 3x a day. Raw frozen food kibble though. Regular kibble wasn't for him
Why do others say that we should not let them go longer than 12 hours between feeding because of stomach acid.??? Confused.
A Vet thats was working in place of my normal vet tried to tell me feeding my Golden once a day is wrong!!! She also told me my 4 year old Golden is over weight he 92 vs 80. Currently looking for another Vet.
How big are pieces of carna 4. I have small breed chiwennie. Which flavor for 5 month old then after grown.
This video was very informative. I know we can always count on you. Keep doing what you do, much love to you.
Needed to hear this today, thank you ❤️
My dog only eats once a day and only in evening. While morning he is having small snacks of veggies.
I have a frenchie and she’s very picky, she only eats ounce a day around 7-8pm. Home cooked food mixed with carna4 dog food
My 11 month old whippet cross gets fed twice which was decreased from his puppy 3. But he still doesn’t eat it all but wants more an hour later. I’m trying to hold off treats to only when necessary and not getting anywhere. He just wants to graze all day
I have an 11 weeks old Corgi. He is to eat 1/2 cup of food daily. How can I break it down to 3-4 times per day?
My raw fed newfs I am now working down to one meal a day
My male is almost three(done growing) female not two yet, but I think she’s good to eat once a day. Dr Lonsdale says random feeding times too!!!
My dog eats once a day not because I choose to but because she's not interested in her food unless she's hungry. I figure if she eats some food combined with some treats than that's good enough for the day. And I thought my dog had strange eating habits.😅😅😅
Great information for shelters and rescues who have a large number of dogs to care for
My dog gets a 1/lb bag of raw food and veg a day and the odd treats thru the day.
Same I have an ACD she does the same thing I’m not sure why as well.
@@xxblossomz6323 … I have tried giving him food at different times but nothing is working … 🤷🏼♀️
Thank you for your kindness and your dedication to you dog. My dood Fin used to do that and I would wait quietly until he offered a calming behavior (ie sit or down) before feeding and he eventually learned that whining or barking didn’t equate food
😢😢😢😢😮
Great video. Really informative
Happy to hear!! Appreciate you
If you feed in the Bob a lot do you wash it every time? It doesn't look easy to clean.
How often do you feed your dogs that pumpkin powder ??🤔
can you feed a small minpin once a day . i would like to try it
My dog just started to feed once a day. So I just listened.
I feed my dog once a day and i keep it random as far as timing as well and i feed a home made raw diet
I've been feeling my dogs once a day forever and the are very healthy 💕
So cool to hear!! I had vets recommend this to me years ago, but it’s neat to see this study around it
What do you think of honest kitchen dog food
Ive been feeding my dog only once a day since 1.5 years old. Shes now 6 and super healthy and incredibly smart and active
