I just started beading during the pandemic shut down. I’m a nail tech in Tx. and we were closed for 6 weeks, ending in April ‘20. It’s late Aug. now and I’m ready to learn this new technique. One thing I positively LOVE is when she say “sticky outty. It makes me smile! I got nearly finished with the first side and realized I’d messed up so had to cut it all loose and I’m gonna give it another go. Great tutorial!

This turned out to be much easier than I expected - thanks to your instructions and demonstrations, which are always so clear and detailed. You are a great teacher. I went through the 'veins' of the leaf a couple of times, which stiffened them up a bit and made the earring a bit firmer. Thanks for another great tutorial :0)

Love your videos. They are so clear. I have done the Russian Leaf with another video, but am going to try your video. I have found you can make these Russian leaves stand up by using a coat of Johnson Pledge Floor Care multi-surface finish. I paint these on with a brush and usually use 2 coats. For an earring this works wonderful. I have had so many compliments on the black and silver one I have made. Thanks for your wonderful tutorials. They are excellent!!

I make & sell these a lot instead of weaving back down after you finish one diagonal side. If you make your thread long when putting on your stop bead just place it in the middle of the thread, then when you get to the other side just pull out your stop bead thread the needle on the thread & start your peyote down the middle row. :) I also dip mine in floor wax to make them stiff it dries clear never flakes :)

Jill - LOVE you and your teaching skills! I can't tell you how much I've learned from you! :-) But I have to share this with you. I've found a much, Much, MUCH easier way to start the "Russian Leaf". Follow your instructions to the letter, except for the very beginning. Instead of starting off with a single strand of beads and adding the second row to begin peyote, start off with two needles - one at each end of your thread (of course) and do a strip of right-angle weave to the length you want!! The only change is that instead of crossing threads to complete each unit of RAW, take both threads through the final bead that completes the unit, then pick up with your instructions to begin the actual diagonal peyote. This also leaves a thread at the end of each side of the finished leaf that enables you to close the leaf and avoid having to sew back and forth down to the center to begin the other side. Works like a DREAM!!!!!
