You got off easy, I had the misfortune of deciding that I needed a drink of my 7Up around 2:36. So, not only did I nearly choke to death from laughing so hard, but I also had to spend the rest of the song (which I went back and re-watched) cleaning off my screen. That'll teach me to be thirsty during one of Troy's performances.

Love the tone. I like it when you put time stamps in your description and give a play by play. Really neat seeing it.
Hey troy: A few weeks ago I saw an Abba Tribute called ATC (Abba - The Concert). They are from Sweden and are incredible. None of the campy Swedish accent crap that other tributes can trend to. And....Mike Watson is touring with them. What a treat to see an orginal studio contributor still getting it done!
I've come close to seeing a few ABBA tributes, but always beg off at the last minute. I'll look up videos of them on RUclips and some looked cheesy. Others were obviously singing to tracks. Some look as though they are franchises and have different members in different countries. I'll keep an eye out for the one you mentioned. I think that Mike Watson played some bass-lines that are as good as the stuff Gunnarson wrote... like this song.
You have made a lovely job of this challenging bass line my good man! ABBA were an incredible band and their bass lines were an essential if under-appreciated aspect of this. both Mike Watson (from my home town) and Rutger Gunnarson are absolute beasts of bass guitar playing. I could listen to their work every day and indeed teach their lines to many of my bass pupils.
Thank you very much. I agree on the high quality of their music and, in particular, many of their bass-lines. I was surprised when I learned that this song was not played by Rutger. I thought it had some of his signature qualities to it.

Glad it went well with the visit, that was a nice touch telling the youngsters that you were looking after their cat ... it'll mean a lot to them i think.
Unfortunately, I wholly dismissed them when I was young and naive. I've gained a much greater appreciation for them, so better late than never, I guess. You are right, I'm definitely more of a "song" person than a "group" person. Rush, of course, was "my" band and I was, for the most part, blindly loyal to most everything they put out. Most everything else I like is on a "per song" basis. I'm glad you enjoyed the cover and the extended play-along. That usually happens when I find the bass-line particularly interesting and don't want the song to end. I'm glad I'm not alone in picking up the "military" element in the song. Thanks again for the great comment.
Great choice, Bass line. and melodic structure to this song. One of the most painful lines ever delivered ",... and I understand, you've come to shake my hand". But I've enjoyed this particular one because of how much fun you seemed to have playing it. It's infectious! Such a fun song. Thank you.
Thanks Aislinn, that's nice to hear. I have to tell you, the ABBA covers have been some of the most enjoyable to learn and play. There's just so much great stuff going on at once.
Great job! I love how through watching your excellent videos I discover how many unassuming "pop" songs have such great bass lines, and this tune is certainly no exception. Keep it up, my friend!
Once again, a song I've heard a million times but for whatever reason, never heard the bassline... so awesome. Great playing and pushing me down memory lane as always
Thanks for the reply, Troy! I love the work of Bob Daisley on this record, “Bark at the Moon”. Precise, clean and very creative. “Slow Down” is my favorite song. I’m crazy about learning how to play it, so I think I’ll have a chance by watching you playing it! :-) “Waiting for Darkness” is another fabulous track. Amazing atmosphere and, besides relatively simple, it has a hypnotic bass line.
Awesome!!! And so glad you continued to play after the song playback ended. Thanks very much, sir. The Super Swedes' best song, in my humble opinion, and my own favourite song of all time. Sheer melancholic GENIUS!!!
Thank you! I'm very glad that you liked it. I'm currently working on "If It Wasn't for the Nights" which I'd never heard before it was suggested. It's another great one for sure!
@@TJH3113 Great choice! Can't wait to hear that! Just received my first ever bass today (never even touched one before, but fancy having a dabble at least). I agree 100% ABBA had some great tunes but seemed to always get sweep to the side by the rock community. I really think you and Lynn taking in the cats was awesome and then to have his family come by and spend time with them and tell the children they are their animals and you guys are just taking care of them for them is above awesome you two are the most incredible people we need more people like y’all in this world then the crazies we have to see on the news daily. Y’all have a wonderful weekend
The were wildly popular in their own right, but, I have to admit, I was one of those who dismissed them as "silly pop" when I was young...and foolish. Aw, thanks. I know Mark would have done it for us...maybe not all 5, but he'd have certainly done whatever he could have. Rhapsody just cannot have a pet where she lives right now. If that changes, she'd be welcome to take Gabby. Gabby's doing fine but I think she'd be happier as an "only" cat. I only took a couple of pictures as I didn't want to intrude on their moment. They took a ton of pics and video. Maybe I'll share the couple I took through the Community feature on RUclips.
i was searching for a good song with cool basslines to play for a school project and arrange it myself but… i think i’ll try to reproduce every single note of this cover it is sooo good🤭
I remember in my youth (I'm the wrong side of 60) that ABBA were a joke to 'serious' music fans like me. They weren't though, were they? Otherwise the better part of 45 years later we wouldn't be marveling at Troy's shit hot version of the wonderful bass lines. Dancing Queen was awesome too as Troy showed. How many more ace Nordic bass lines lurk in the ABBA back catalogue? I know Troy doesn't do requests but... He does, I'm sure, investigate some of the suggestions. I don't know whether 'Blur' were popular on your side of the pond but I think 'For Tomorrow' would be worth a listen to?
Same here. I've got a much deeper respect and appreciation for what they did as a group. I don't think I've ever heard of Blur, but I'll check out the song you mentioned.
Love that you added that ending, seems like i keep finding your channel every time i enter a new phase on my music discovery journey haha cheers man :)
Genial!!! Gran música!! Gran cover!!
Yay more disco. You are so amazing. The more I watch, the more i enjoy. Being dyslectic, I rarely read the synopsis, but I've been trying to take the time to do so on yours. Loved the breakdown of what was going on at what time in the song. Also being a parent to only animals, I think what you did for your friends orphans is awesome. Hope someone steps up when I go. Also being dyslectic it takes me a long time to comment like this. But just wanted to say, you are appreciated.
We'll see. Thanks a lot and thanks for taking the time and energy to battle through your dyslexia in order to read the synopsis and compose your comments. I really do appreciate your effort. Lynn and I are also parents to animals only and have even gone so far as to make plans in our will for our cats in the unlikely event that we both perish at the same time. Thanks again. You are appreciated as well.
TJH3113 Thank you again. Luckily the phone pushes the words in the right direction and gives me the words I’m looking for, most of the time. But it does get weird sometimes. We have the cats covered in the will as well, I just hope the humans that will take custody are as worthy to care as we try to be. Anyway, thank you for the kind words and for the wonderful content, can’t thank you enough for the joy I get watching and playing along. Have an awesome day buddy.
Well done Troy..... and you know as always when it comes to pop music sometimes we take the good with the bad and vice--versa but I saw the ABBA song and said to myself well I guess Troy is in the "mood for a dance"........lol......Happy 4th of July!!!!
I've said it more than once, but the 70s (even though this song was released in 1980) was the best decade for bass playing. So many great lines across so many musical genres. Wonderful cover and I love to see you having fun with a song as you appear to be here. Thanks for posting.
I'd have to agree with you, overall. Thanks, once again, for watching and taking the time to comment. Just wondering, are you "Ben Cake"? It's hard to tell from the avatar pic, but it looks like you.

One of the things I love about your channel is that I'm constantly hearing music I wouldn't otherwise seek out, and being impressed by the great bass lines present throughout different genres. Also, if I see a Guild B-series bass, I click the video.
That's great to hear. The channel has really allowed me to explore a lot of music/bass-lines that I'd always liked but never considered learning. Yeah, I'm very fond of the Guilds, myself.
They really are fun to play. To learn? Not so much. But once you've got them down it's amazing at how all the pieces fit together to create such brilliantly written songs. Yes, it was Rutger.
Such a brilliantly constructed song; it's absolutely genius in the truest sense of the word and... if One is genuinely interested in music and has the ability to put their preferred tastes aside, it's a piece of cake to recognize the skill and creativity in it, even if they don't like the song.. and provided they are truly AWAKE!! eho.. or whatever that's supposed to mean :-P You played it great - as always!
@@TJH3113 Yep, first listen. I didn't hear a lot of pop in the 70s and early 80s. It was mostly rock (the biggest radio station in our state was a rock station back then).
I love your channel, but I have to speak up and say that as amazing as Rutger Gunnarsson's playing was, he didn't do the bass track, it was Mike Watson. Watson also played on SOS, Mamma Mia, and Super Trouper. I think he's more percussive of a player and it's fun to listen to the differences in their playing styles. Both played with such finesse.
Thanks. Yes, I addressed that issue very shortly after I uploaded the video. I didn't change my original post, just added a disclaimer along with it. I knew ABBA had a couple of different bassists, but assumed, because of the complexity of this bass-line that it was Gunnar. I was equally surprised to learn that Watson played on Super Trouper, which was a real challenge. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment, Paige.

Thanks Aislinn, that's nice to hear. I have to tell you, the ABBA covers have been some of the most enjoyable to learn and play. There's just so much great stuff going on at once.
@@TJH3113 For me at least, those really fun bass parts can get kind of hidden too. It's awesome to pull them out and give them a chance to shine.
Great job! I love how through watching your excellent videos I discover how many unassuming "pop" songs have such great bass lines, and this tune is certainly no exception. Keep it up, my friend!
Thank you.
Once again, a song I've heard a million times but for whatever reason, never heard the bassline... so awesome. Great playing and pushing me down memory lane as always
Thanks for listening and for taking the time to comment.
Great job as usual! Love the tone on that Guild!
Thanks a lot.
GREAT PLAYING. THATS MY FAVORITE ABBA SONG.
Thank you very much!
Excellent playing, well done. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you very much John.
Wow. What a beautiful bass line. Well done, Troy.
I’d like to suggest you “Slow Down”, from Ozzy Osbourne’s album “Bark at the Moon”!
It is, isn't it? Thank you.
I'll check it out.
“Waiting for Darkness” is another fabulous track. Amazing atmosphere and, besides relatively simple, it has a hypnotic bass line.
hello @TJH3113 I pulled the trigger and purchased a Glarry Bass with a 20 W AMP.
That’s awesome Richard! Let me know how things come along. Congratulations!
it just doesn't get any better than this Troy!!!!!! I love this! Have a great weekend my friend!!!Marvine :-)
Thanks Marvine.
@@TJH3113 Troy I am going to try to look at ALL of your videos Troy. :-)
Just rocked, wittingly with such incomprehensible riffs.
Thanks so much Martin.
I play piano/keyboards and a little sax (or at least try) so looking forward to trying out a new instrument, and these videos have really inspired me to give the bass a go. Whether I'll ever be good enough to play these, only time will tell ... But I intend to give it a go... Eventually... Thanks again for the entertainment and inspiration!!! 👍👍👍🎸🎸🎸
@@TalesFromTheScript Congratulations and be patient with yourself. Play a variety of material that is above, at, and beneath your skill level and have fun.
You are definitely the winner Troy!! How do you do it!!!!! I thnank God for you Troy!!!!!!!!!!!!
Beautifully done. Thank you.
Many thanks!
Maybe I'll share the couple I took through the Community feature on RUclips.
i was searching for a good song with cool basslines to play for a school project and arrange it myself but… i think i’ll try to reproduce every single note of this cover it is sooo good🤭
It's a gorgeous piece of music. Have fun with it. Thanks and take care!
Love your playing and read in the description that you also played One of Us. Please please upload that one!!! Your covers are top notch playing.
Nevermind, you already uploaded it! Oh, another suggestion. Head Over Heels! One of my fav Rutger basslines and ABBA compositions
Done!
I just checked out your suggestion. I'd never heard it before but liked it very much. Keep an eye out for it sometime in the future.
my go to guy for bass lessons and cover. amazing indeed. many thanks. well done Troy...
Wow, thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it! Take care!
Thanks so much for posting. What a superb song and a great cover. The "break" starting at 1:25 has got to be one of the best ever!
Thanks, I'm glad that you liked it.
After a while I calmed down and thought about it the rest of the night. :-)
Well done Troy..... and you know as always when it comes to pop music sometimes we take the good with the bad and vice--versa but I saw the ABBA song and said to myself well I guess Troy is in the "mood for a dance"........lol......Happy 4th of July!!!!
Haha...yes, I'm always "in the mood for a dance"😂 Thanks and same to you.
Incredible how you nailed it again. Well done and what a great sound from the Guild
Thank you kindly!
@@TJH3113 I am. BenCAKE was a garbage name for my first Gmail address (Ben from Ben Folds and CAKE, well, that's self explanatory). Bubbles the Vampire is my nom de plume for all things internet.
Btw, seeing Ben Folds and CAKE on the same bill this summer. Mark Knopfler in September.
Troy, as always you nailed it. I love this song. Not sure if you take requests but I heard Mrs Vandebilt the other day and immediately thought this would be a great song for you to cover. (Assuming you haven’t already covered it.).
Thanks a lot, Cid. I'll check it out. Thanks for the suggestion.
Amazing song. Amazing playing. Bravo!
I think so too! Thanks so much!
Well you dug up yet another schmaltzy pop song with a neat bass line buried in it. Hats off!
Haha...I try. I'm glad you liked it. Thanks.
beatiful playing!
Thanks a lot!
Thanks for the update on the kitties. I totally forgot this song!
No problem.
It's a good one, isn't it?
One of the things I love about your channel is that I'm constantly hearing music I wouldn't otherwise seek out, and being impressed by the great bass lines present throughout different genres.
Also, if I see a Guild B-series bass, I click the video.
That's great to hear. The channel has really allowed me to explore a lot of music/bass-lines that I'd always liked but never considered learning.
Yeah, I'm very fond of the Guilds, myself.
Great again 👍 (regards from a Swedish guy)
I'll certainly take that as a high compliment, coming from a Swede.🤣 Thanks.
I've been without internet connection for a week, and this is the first video I watch. Ah, the pleasure! 😄
Wow, that sucks. Glad you're hooked up again. I bet you got some stuff done though.
Thanks a lot. I'm glad you liked it.
Thanks for this. I’m playing an Abba gig tomorrow and this was missing from the files they sent me but it’s obviously on the set list.
Awesome! I hope it helped.
Love that bass! Regret selling mine years ago. They seriously need to reissue these.
I really like these basses as well. There are always a few for sale on Reverb.
Nicely done mate,good work
Thanks 👍
Parabéns perfeito!!!
Muito obrigado!!!
Watching you from Belgium. Wow! Well done! I'm trying to play it now.
Awesome. Have fun with it, it is a wonderful song.
I LOVED YOUR PLAYING MAN,really very good playing..I am from Brazil..thanks for share the video.
Thank you very much! I'm glad you liked it.
Your bass covers are amazing!
Thanks so much!
Great job I loved it all (even the goofy facial expressions) have you done knowing me ,knowing you before? That's my absolute favorite ABBA bass line!
Thanks..."goofy"? No, I haven't done that one but I'll check it out.
This is insanely good - bravo!!
Thanks so much John!
My dad loved abba. Thank you.
A few people have said that. Which one, Agnetha or Frida?😂 Just kidding.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Have a great Saturday.
Here is my hand as you are deinitely thw WINNER in so many ways. I can't stop the tears Troy!!!!!!!!!
Aw, thank you Marvine. I'm glad you liked it.
I love these lines which look as much fun to play as to listen to/watch. Another Rutger Gunnarsson?
And the lip sync...
They really are fun to play. To learn? Not so much. But once you've got them down it's amazing at how all the pieces fit together to create such brilliantly written songs. Yes, it was Rutger.
ABBA his full of bass Jem's! Good job...nice Bass
Definitely! Thanks!
El escenario de fondo le da más emotividad a la interpretación¡¡¡, es broma ,bien tocada con bajo ¡¡
Jaja gracias.
Excellent!
Thank you.
Well done!!! 🎉
Thank you!!!
You've got me hooked on bl**dy ABBA now! Awesome work!
Glad to hear it!
Such a brilliantly constructed song; it's absolutely genius in the truest sense of the word and... if One is genuinely interested in music and has the ability to put their preferred tastes aside, it's a piece of cake to recognize the skill and creativity in it, even if they don't like the song.. and provided they are truly AWAKE!!
eho.. or whatever that's supposed to mean :-P
You played it great - as always!
I agree!
Thank you very much.
Love the tone you get from the B-301's! You have a great percussion, style.
Glad you like it! They are among my favorites too. Thanks a lot.
@@TJH3113 Yes sir - I recently acquired a 1977 B-301, love it!!
Awesome! Congratulation.

Superb cover of this Song.Bravo.Excuse me for my english, but i am italian.Hallo
Thanks a lot. Il tuo inglese era perfetto.
This is fantastic! Imma stop working now and grab my bass, got too much to learn to be wasting my time with work! Great job! *subscribes*
Thanks a lot!
Awesome sound...
Thank you.
Abba is brilliant. Thanks for posting.
I think they are too. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
First time hearing this song. Nice job! Kinda makes me think of James Bond tunes.
Really?
Thanks.
Yeah, I could definitely see this as a movie soundtrack song.
@@TJH3113 Yep, first listen. I didn't hear a lot of pop in the 70s and early 80s. It was mostly rock (the biggest radio station in our state was a rock station back then).
Pure brilliance as usual Sir :)
Wow, thanks!
Hi - my name is Dave and I'm an ABBA fan since the early 80's
Welcome Dave. Are you a friend of Bjorn's?
Beautiful!!!
Thanks.
Great job!!!!
Thank you! Cheers!
Amazing
Thanks
Great tone on this!
Thank, I'm glad you liked it.
Awesome Bassist. Keep it up.
Thanks, I'll try!
