Hafiz pointed that out. I think Rolex really fooled us with the 41. .3mm is negligible. The difference in lug shape is noticeable; I think the watch flows into the bracelet more. Better? That’s entirely subjective. Some like the squarish maxi case. The difference in lug to lug is also negligible. I don’t think anyone would notice the difference unless they were amazingly observant or had incredibly sensitive skin.
I received my 41 date today also own the maxi no date . I think the incremental changes do make a big difference. It just feels more uniformed and I think it’s just right.. The extra mm on the bracelet makes it wear even better than the maxi . I think it looks slightly bigger when I compare side by side but it’s slight . In short I absolutely love it I think it’s the complete sports watch . I’m normally picky but I think they have done a brilliant job ..
I have owned them all and now the SD41. It is the most perfect a modern Sub can get. It addressed every issue I didnt care for in my LVc Hulk. The new Sub41 has a larger dial and hands giving it the best dial to bezel ratio. The fatter hour hand looks more in proportion and hold more lume. The Sub 41 and SD43 have the same size dial and hands yet the Sub now gives better better dial real estate in a smaller easier to wear watch.. The sum of all the changes to the Sub 41 add up to a hell of a difference to the previous blocky super case. The Sub41 is the modern 5 digit Sub with significantly better build quality and materials. Unfortunately it will be very, very popular for years and make it a unicorn. Its going to stay a "rock star" a long time. Look at it this way, The Submariner is significantly a more important watch model and larger icon than the Daytona. Factor in these are the biggest and all good changes the Sub has ever seen since going to ceramic. The Sub41 is a very significant piece now. I dont ever see it being less than a $15.5k and up model for maybe ever.
I am an experienced professional deep sea diver and a certified horologist. I can authoritatively confirm that the Rolex Submariner is the finest dive watch ever made. It is indispensable for me on all my commercial deep sea dives. I’m happy to have cleared up any confusion once and for all, in my capacity as a certified horologist and experienced commercial deep sea diver.
Thank you very much for having thin wrists like me, not sure there’s much difference in the fit, only slight differences in appearance. To be more specific, the lugs still do not curve to the wrist like other brands, so there’s still that issue.
If you were to buy one, which would you choose between the Date and the "no date"? And for what reason? from the historical point of view, and for the symmetry of the dial, is the "no date" objectively more beautiful? or is the Date functionality better? Today almost everyone chooses the Date .. What do you think?
I don’t see those high prices lasting too long. I just picked up a 41mm no-date Friday after mentioning to my AD about a week or so ago. The “list” isn’t as bad as ppl think or I got really lucky.
Congrats with your new Rolex! Signed up at the list at the Danish AD today, and they told me that i had to wait about 2-3 years to get a Submariner date. Hopefully i'm lucky, just as you 😊
@@Yoshi1478 the way you get ‘preferred’ is buying a watch there. Buy a nice Tudor and they’ll notify you. It also helps if you’re a local to the dealer vs. someone coming in from out of town, but sometimes that can’t be helped depending where dealer is. Good luck.
Tell that to the person in 2030 still waiting for the AD to call. Not a chance they will be forced to go grey or pre-owned market as the burning desire will continue to consume them.
Thank you for the interest in the Orbit Winder, we have them for sale on our website www.iflwatches.com We get limited quantities and re-stock them every month :)
My opinion is that its not about improvement its just an opportunity for the Rolex brand to move forward. Rolex watches are sought after, they don't make a poor watch irrespective of when it was made. In 10 to 20 years time we will be discussing if the next model is better than the current 41mm. Its just a case that the world keeps going around a bit like a second hand that circumnavigates the watch itself. They call it progress we just call it a chance to sell more time pieces.
the new Sub is the perfect evolution of a great watch... sort of like Porsche with the 911.... Rolex gets it.. fix that's broken, and keep what's right (most of it).
Thanks guys 👍The new size didn’t really concern me that much. It looks more balanced out now. The clasp does look like it’s a bit of a beast but I can live with that... I prefer the standard model rather than the Sub date. I’ll get one eventually - the mrs wouldn’t be happy as I haven’t had my Explorer 214270 mk2 for that long😬There’ll be a bit of a wait for these no doubt. PS. Like the double watch stand...
Thanks for the review. Main factor for comfort is total weight. 40mm on steel vs gold, totally different wear. What's the weight of 114060 and 124060? Cheers.
You need to messure the clasp on both watches (in both directions) I think the clasp is more than 1 mm bigger on the new sub if i remember right. I agree that the clasp seems to big to my taste.
I got my oystersteel submariner date last year (after only 8 months wait) right when the new sub was released, I was told the wait would be 1-2 years originally... am I right in saying that probably a few people before me declined their invite to come buy theirs and therefore I got the phone call so that they would get the new model? IE I got done by the retailer here?
IFL Watches yes I am sure. I have just picked up my 126613LN and it definitely has AR on both sides. Even the manager of the AD said it’s AR on both sides.
IFL Watches yeah but Rolex so thinks at there own pace. Definitely changes the look of the dial, also a massive improvement in legibility in sunny condition.
In the last 20 years, the emerging market collector’s wrist size is definitely smaller so what is with the massive oversize clasp, oversize lug size and noisy movement. The BB58 is perfect at 39mm in case size, perfect 20mm lug size and thickness of just 11.9 mm….The new sub should have followed the same sizes as the BB58! The new 41mm is clunky compared to the perfect proportions of BB58.
mbg22 I think the older models will actually drop in price in the resell market. There isn’t enough difference between the old and new, if anything people don’t like the maxi case as much, and the new one has the technical advantage of longer power reserve. Add to all that that the old one has 10 year of units sold the inventory likely exceeds demand.
BLT only time will tell really...I was able to get my hands on a new one (not from an AD) and I’ve had a couple people offer me 15K for it...tempting but nope...still have my hulk and my smurf as well probably not letting go of those
Jizzzz. Its not 41. Its like 40,5. The maxi was 40,2. Whats with te hype. This means nothing. Its the slimmer lugs and wider bracelet thats makes the new sub
@@kjakan79 it's actually 41.5mm across the CASE, go look at caliper photos on rolex forums. And quit spreading wrong info. Bezel diameter is not the same as case diameter, which is what everyone is referencing...
Still not seeing many reviewers mention that the 114060 was 40.2mm and the new one (124060) isn't actually 41mm: it's 40.5mm.
I'm surprised they didn't just go to 42mm like the Seamaster.

I think the plastic date blob is hideous.
Goodbye maxi case, hello maxi clasp! That extra 1mm makes a big difference when it comes to a watch.
Yea, it does. It makes the watch balanced and not top heavy like the 40.
