Building and Launching the Estes Der Big Red Max

  • Quick build and launch video of my Der Big Red Max. Added plywood fins and centering rings. Opening launch was on a 24mm Aerotech F24-7 and maiden flight was an E28-7 with a bad chute deployment shown at the end. Both flights were 485 and 449 feet during the winter.

    I like your alternative bulkhead. I was going to try epoxying in an eye bolt at the tip of the nose, but that'll do just fine. I'm running through a length of coat hanger wire to keep the epoxy plug in place at the tip of the nose. I also ended up putting fiberglass on the airframe and tip to tip on the fins. Overkill, but this way it'll be a tank.

      Oh yea they’re light enough they can basically tumble recover if you use the plywood fins.
