    To clarify the lounge access. Checking terms and conditions of the priority pass via capital one there is no set limit. The lounges may set a limit but the card does not.

    Anniversary credit is actually really smart on their part. You effectively pay them $100 which I’m sure they invest in the market/business, they hopefully turn it into say $120, give you the $100 at the end of the year and keep the $20. Basically taking a loan from you w 0% interest
    I’m sure the card still makes sense for a lot of people but if you aren’t using the benefits can always just put $395 in the market

      They definitely will make money on that one hundred. Capital provides financial products for mainly sub prime customers. Great comment I definitely did not think of it. Now it all makes sense how they manage to keep the venture x going.

      Depends on if you use the benefits. I like the visa infinite access for the medical insurance. Covers $2500 in expenses, so I don't have to purchase travel insurance as long as I'm traveling in countries with cheap medical access. Saves me $75/month.

      You cannot reliably make 20% return in one year. Even among big banks. Good theory, doesn't work.
      This is just them trying to get customer to sign up and later they will bump fee.

    • @Valyr1on
      @Valyr1on Месяц назад

      @@adityapatel9735 yeah that was just an easy number for the hypothetical lol. Sub it with whatever number you want, point was just that the time value of money is a real thing.
      So yeah, it is a good theory, and it does work. And it doesn’t at all preclude what you’re saying either, no single factor will explain it, but a part of it is absolutely that it’s an interest free loan.

    Everyone is pushing this card hard. I fell for it and got the card. We have excellent credit and pay all cards in full at the end of month. In any case, booked my first travel through Capital One Travel. The booking went smoothly. What didn't go smoothly is my return flight from Turkey to US. They messed up my reservation apparently but refused to take blame. I had to sit on the call with them for over 8 hours and with 7 reps because their phones kept getting disconnected. Finally I got a refund on the return half of the flight that came nowhere near covering what I had to pay to get back home. We're paying off the final balance and closing the account. Trust me, their customer service is set up to avoid taking any loses. They will pass the bill onto you for any mistakes that they make.

      While I sympathize with you, it is common knowledge that you should not use OTA for big trips. You should really be booking economy flights through airlines such as delta, AA or any other airline that will reflect the tickets on their own app immediately after booking through OTA. This way you KNOW that the airline will take care of any issues rather than the OTA. I have booked multiple times through different OTA and have never had a problem when booking with the right airline. If doing international, from my experience, even on economy flights, its usually best to book through transfer partners or cash directly than through OTA.

    • @CryptoData
      @CryptoData Год назад

      You’re still young, so I’d keep building up your credit and look at the BILT credit card when you get to a 720 or higher. It’s fairly new, but there’s no annual fee and there’s a lot of benefits and it’s been getting a lot of traction on RUclips recently. Also, don’t apply for any store cards unless you always shop there. Most of the offers are really bad and the APR‘s are horrible for the benefits they give. Just stick with the premium ones. And one last thing, since you’re still young, you have the advantage of average age of accounts. Which basically means you should apply for the majority of your cards over the next few years then don’t apply for anything for a while. That way your average age of accounts will be high and you won’t have any hard pools on your credit after two years and you’ll just be strictly building your credit from then on. And if you have any cards with a certain bank, you can ask for a product change to a higher tier card, and usually that will keep the same date as your previous card, depending on who it’s with. Look at all of the factors that affect your credit score, and just see the best way to play it. I hope this helps!

    How does the company make money? Seems to good to be true!
    Also a couple more questions if anyone can answer these…
    1. When / how do you receive the $300 travel credit?
    2. Are there any additional hidden costs that I’d be surprised with in order to use of the benefits?
    3. I fly mostly United (and sometimes Jetblue). I don’t see them as Transfer partners…does that mean I should go with Chase instead?

    • @Sabitar1
      @Sabitar1 Год назад +2

      1. You just gotta book through their portal to get the credit. I just bought a $370 flight through their portal and expect to receive $300 back within the next statement.
      2. No hidden costs, if anything their portal is super straight forward and easy to navigate. I also found it was either cheaper or exactly the same as other sites when it came to flights or rental cars. The other benefits also do not have additional costs, you just gotta activate them through their corresponding sites.
      3. Go for both. This is a keeper card because of the benefits and the fact they literally pay you to have it. But you also can't go wrong with Chase and their United card. I have it and rarely fly United and still manage to get value, so if you used them all the time it is super worth it for the free bags and priority boarding alone!

    Actually..
    1st year: The math looks like this,
    $395 annual fee + $300 travel expense through the capital one portal =$695 - $300 travel credit = you actually end up paying $495 for your travels.
    2nd year: $395 annual fee + $300 travel expense through the capital one portal =$695 - $300 travel credit - $100 anniversary credit = you actually end up paying $
    $295 for your travels.
    You can see it as paying $0 in travels and $295 annual fee
    Or paying $295 for travels and a $0 annual fee while taking advantage of the very generous perks.
    I see it as paying for the first miles out of pocket, $0 annual fees and then use points for a free 2nd vacation with all the card perks.

    • @iPlayOnSpica
      @iPlayOnSpica Год назад +1

      Your math is mistaken. First, it would be $395 for the first year given your calculations.
      Second, if you were to theoretically travel to the same place(s) and pay the same anyway, but without this credit card, you'd still be paying that $300 per year. Also, consider the $100 anniversary as a refund at the end of the year and not an allowance for the next year, then it would be a $5 benefit every year with the card ($295) vs. without ($300). The math only falls short if you don't travel, in which case there are probably more suitable cards out there for your lifestyle.
      This is not accounting for the accumulation of miles or finding potential exclusive discounts here and there, of course.

      There are cashback cards if you don't like travel. Not all cards are travel focused. For those that are travel focused, it is because they are in profitable partnerships with airlines and they've realized that beyond cashback, travel is likely the best reward to offer to the general public. On top of that, many cards offer credits to things that are not travel relate as its easier to offer those with an annual fee rather than offer it as a reward. Can you imagine how poorly a credit card reward would be if the points it acquired were only transferable to something like microsoft? People are constantly traveling, whereas people aren't doing other things like buying computers as much. And travel is a big expense, so it makes sense. On daily, lower cost expenses like eating and groceries are how credits card companies reward you towards the larger cost expense of traveling. That's where multipliers come in.
      From a business point of view, providing good rewards on something people would do often, but not daily, while being a large expense is a great recipe for rewards outside of cashback.

    QUESTION: Just started my cc journey not too long ago; I had a student cc before. I have the Chase Freedom Unlimited and just got the Chase Freedom Flex and am currently working on the sign up bonus. Once I hit ~30% utilization rate on a card, is it smart to switch to the other card assuming I haven't already hit ~30% utilization, start using my debit, or..? I pay the entire balance off monthly so that's no issue. Thanks

    • @somerandomdude5012
      @somerandomdude5012 Год назад

      You basically never wanna use your debit card unless there's some reason a credit card would get charged a fee. Most, if not all, credit cards allow you to pay off your statement before it's due. So if you hit 30% utilization, simply pay it off and continue using it. In fact, the utilization is only tracked when the credit company sends the info to the credit score people, so as long as you pay if before that date (it's between when you get the statement and when it's due; I think about a week after you receive the statement), it'll be reported as that low. The lower the better (but not 0 cuz they can't report anything if there's nothing to report), so if you notice your utilization going too high, just pay most of it to lower the utilization back to 0-30% (

    • @smileychess
      @smileychess 8 месяцев назад +1

      Never ever ever carry a balance. Only charge what you currently have in the bank (treat it like a debit card). I personally pay off my card in the app every single day.
      If you ever find yourself carrying a balance into the next month (which causes an interest charge) then you need to switch back to debit for a while to cool down and reassess whether you can handle credit. I got myself into bad credit card debt in my twenties. Eventually wised up and switched to debit for several years. Now I use credit for the benefits but I treat it like handling snakes. It’s inherently dangerous and should always be treated with the utmost respect and reverence.
