As someone who does 1-2 long international trips for work every year, the card is a great deal. Easy to get the $300 travel credit back. Priority pass is much better overseas in my experience. Not the fanciest lounges, but usually decent food and cold beer or decent wine. Priority pass in the US is more of a mixed bag. Some nice lounges in terminal 1 at JFK, but if you are not in T1 or T4 you are out of luck. At ORD, if you are going out of T5 and your timing is right, you might get into the small lounge. Beer is cold, sandwiches are decent, but nothing to write home about.🤠
good to know; lounges have been a huge (US) dissappointment. Hours prohibit entry-taking a lot of early flights and they aren't open , they have wait lines outside, or no food (Maui, unless you go to another terminal and usually no time) and my home lounge contracts out with Luftansa so no entry during hours I can go!
I went to the Cap1 website last week because I was just curious to see what they would pre-approve me for. It turned out to be every card on their site so I jumped on the VX before they changed their minds. It's my new catch-all card because of the 2X. My Freedom unlimited is now in the sock drawer.
I haven’t seen any finance RUclipsr mention this about this card, but keep in mind that you WILL be out the $95 of the annual fee at some point of owning the card. To keep it simple, after the first year, the 10k miles “pays you back” for it, but if you ever cancel the the card at the end of an anniversary year, you will NOT be “reimbursed” meaning that last year, you will be paying that fee. Something to know. 👍🏼
The Capital One Venture X card has been great for me. Very easy to use the $300 Travel credit which worked out very well for a ski trip. The 10,000 Anniversary mile bonus is a no brainer since it does not require a minimum spend. If paired with the Savor or Savor One card you can really get some sweet value. 🤠
🤠 Based out of DFW. Love the Venture X. Used the $300 credit for a night stay at a Disney property. I was able to price match after booking and receieved a $60 travel credit and earned 5k points for the booking. I booked a flight (domestic) with the 10k Annual Points, getting about $200 value. Hertz is amazing. I've booked a few different times this year and got upgraded every single time to SUVs.
🤠. I have the Venture X and love it, but I'm a bit afraid of how quickly some of the benefits got nerfed (price match travel credit vs statement credit, priority pass restaurants). I got the CSR mainly for the welcome bonus. I was going to downgrade to CSP, to still have access to Chase partners. With the way Capital One is nerfing their card, do you think it makes sense to keep the CSR as well? Don't want to downgrade only to upgrade again in 6 months when the Venture X is nerfed again.
I cancelled my Venture X after year 1. I already had the CSR and two AMEX plat's. It just did hold up as well as the others and the last straw was losing the PP restaurants which I still have thru the CSR and Ritz cards. Not a bad card, just not right for my setup. Also just ate at the Lark Creek Grill in SFO two days ago and it was great as always.
🤠 Being locked into Capital One's travel portal to use the annual travel credit and get elevated rewards on spending is definitely something that knocks this card down a peg. For me, it's still super easy to justify with just 1 trip a year, but it isn't necessarily for everyone!! Great video as always man!
Yes, I got the card and tried to book several different versions of an international flight. The portal wouldn't book the flight. I even called the help support, and they couldn't help either. The reason? The flights weren't available, but they still appeared as options on the Capital One travel portal. I tried different dates, different airlines, and nothing would work. Very very frustrating.
Love my VX so far but I agree it’s not for everyone’s lifestyle! Will enjoy the perks while they last! Planning on adding the BILT, Savor One and CSP in the near future. 🤠
I live 20 mins from Capital One Headquarters. I've completed the Chase Trifecta and I have Amex gold and blue cash everyday cards. Venture x is definitely on my list
It’s a solid card and has most that you need. Great travel partners. Good insurance protections and rental car status. Agree with you that there’s some aspects lacking in terms of value, especially compared to AMEX and Chase. Would be amazing if the lounge in DEN would open up already 🤠 once they open those up, people will be storming to get the card even more. And then perks or fee will rise like chase/Amex 😢 overall my hope is traffic at Amex lounges goes down a bit, and evens out with the capital one lounges.
@@jongwoolee130 yes the platinum, pro for Amex platinum is Marriott/Hilton hotel status’, airport lounges (imo Amex is the best I’ve seen with consistent US coverage, Amex fine hotel and resort upgrades, hertz 4 hour late waive, rental car status, and solid credits for Uber, hotel and airline, plus clear (which I value not too much but it’s a nice to have). Oh and good insurance protections too! Con - high fee, gotta make sure you use everything to make it profitable. Make sure you travel often to get value. I travel every month or so, so it’s extremely valuable for me. Especially lounges with unlimited drink and food 🤠 Pro on capital one is that it has solid primary rental insurance coverage, rental car status with hertz, travel credit (but through the portal), and decent travel partners. I use LifeMiles for international trips and capital one and Amex have been good with that. Also capital one is simpler, one credit and that’s it. Easier to deal with but less value compared to Amex. Overall, Amex I’d say is better than capital one. Con of capital one, is that the lounges have been delayed, there’s only one that currently exists, others have been delayed for over a year. And even when those come out, they dwindle in comparison to Amex. Priority pass is useful in select US airports, more useful abroad. Also small credit score thing worth mentioning… Amex is better from a credit score perspective too. Let’s say you spend $6K in a month, Amex isn’t going to ding your credit score compared to capital one. If you’re credit limit on capital one is 20k, and you spend $6K, your utilization will impact your score. Compared to larger purchases on AMEX won’t be impacted at all on your month to month score. Recommendation: get both if you travel often and willing to do the work. Get capital one if you want a simpler setup. Get Amex if you want luxury and everything, and willing to do the work. Personally, I’ll keep both because it’s nice to have capital one in the back pocket for lounge access and point accrual is better on capital one for some things, compared to Amex platinum.
One thing I wish was explained better before I got this card is that the travel credit is through their travel portal. You must redeem the $300 by booking on their portal. This can be a huge downside if you want to use or earn loyalty with hotels or airlines, and if you want to book the most competitive cash price, which isn’t always through cap1. Still love the card but it’s a downside that doesn’t get emphasized.
🤠 I was a first month adopter of the Venture X. I had been a Venture cardbholder for 13 years at that point anyway and this was a no brainier for me. The 100,000 point into offer and the original PP membership made this an amazing card as an initial topish tier card. I added the Savor card 6 months later to really capitalize on my spending. The devaluation on PP did hurt me since I do live in PDX and used the credits at Capers when flying. I also am growing impatient with the Denver Lounge delays but do understand the current state of construction. I however do still think this is an amazing card (especially when teamed with the Savor). As Sebby said, further devaluation would call for further evaluation. For now however it remains at the front of my wallet.
🤠 VentureX is a pretty solid utility card which pays for itself. It's even better if you're based out of DFW or Denver for the lounge, although the recent wait times at DFW have driven me to hit other lounge options. I pair it with the Amex Gold along with whatever card I'm churning at the moment to keep it simple.
Capital One has terrible customer service. There are a few no annual fee cards that offer the same 2X. At least three no annual fee cards offer more than 2X.
🤠, keep right now. I just got this card and I’m just elevating my travel card game. We were taking a brand loyal approach and using co-branded cards for the partners we like to use. The Venture X caught my eye when I saw that Qantas is one of the transfer partners. We have Alaska airlines living in WA state. However, I would rather go straight to Qantas earn flights to visit my family in Australia. My next one is the SavorOne.
If you go to Houston once a year and it happens to be during crawfish season you have to make a trip to Hans crawfish in Tomball. It’s probably going to be a 30 to 45 minute drive as most things in Houston but you will not regret the trip. It’s better than any place I’ve tried in Louisiana and you definitely won’t regret the trip. It’s BYOB so if you have a preferred beer in the area bring it!
I'm coming up on my one-year anniversary with the C1VX card and I'll keep it another year. The 2X points for $1 spend is decent, and I'll book a hotel or flight once to recoup the annual fee. 🤠
🤠 The biggest problem with the VX for me is that travel credit. I’ve had too many bad experiences with travel portals that I just don’t touch them anymore. More of a SUB card then downgrade to Venture or Venture One
@@sniff4643 Not a chance. Travel portals don’t offer the same legal protections that booking direct does. I don’t trust any OTA to help when something goes wrong or to give any kind of decent compensation, as they’re not legally required to
@@mrb152 Every OTA has the same problem in that they don’t offer the same protections that booking direct with an airline offers since they’re not legally required to. Most often they’ll blame any lack of help on you not buying the trip insurance. I’d also never book hotels via an OTA unless you’re using something like FHR for the extra perks
I think the Venture x is the best premium travel card on the market right now. Less of an annual fee than most, C1 pays you each year with credits to keep the card, all of the protections this card offers is amazing especially cell phone protection. I don't care about the nerf to restaurants on PP because a lot were abusing that and going there every day, so I understand the change. When Chase offers more to compensate for that 550 annual fee I will consider them and as for Amex I am not a coupon person so that 695 fee would be a waste for me.
What is the best card for travelers flying out of LAX? I already have the Chase Freedom Flex, Chase Sapphire Preferred, and Chase Business Ink. I was going to apply for this Capital One Venture X card, but this video is slightly confusing me on next steps 😅🤠
I fly out of Lax all of the time if you want access to the centurion lounge in the international section roll with the amex platinum. I also have the venture x and love it
🤠 So the Venture X has been my go to card for quite a lot. Redeeming the 300 dollar credit was super easy. My only complaint is that sometimes the app is kinda annoying. If I owe for example $1000 on my monthly statement by the 1st of the month and I pay half one week before it doesn’t show on the app that the other half is still due it basically just says your minimum payment is met. Haven’t found any other way to confirm what I owe when paying my bill in increments before the due date other than tracking that myself or calling the customer service number directly to confirm.🙄 Otherwise this card has replaced my Costco Citi Visa card for purchases at Costco because I’d rather get points instead of cash back.
Wouldn't the rest be the "statement balance" If you owed $1500, and paid $750, continued to use the card and in 2 weeks wouldn't the statement balance be $750? Where the current balance would equal [$750 (what you still owed from the balance 2 weeks ago) {called statement balance} + whatever you purchased over the last 2 weeks]?
I just got approved for it and saw this notification not an hour later 😅. But I'm looking forward to using the credit, lounges, anniversary miles and sign up bonus points!
I decided to get the Venture instead. I didn’t really want to deal with the $300 portal credit and the Venture $95 AF is worth it to me for 2 lounge visits a year. 🤠
Got denied for the CAP1X, missed the window for gamers. It would do my ego good to be able to flash this card, but I am concentrating on the Chase and Amex eco-systems. Maybe some Citi depending on what they have up their sleeves. I am doubling down on utilizing all the perks/multipliers of the Amex and Chase premium cards, which can be hard to stay focused on.
🤠 i've only had the card for a year now but i love it! as someone who does cross country flights about 2 times a year and internationally once a year, i feel like i'm getting good value out of it so im happy
Would you guys recommend getting the venture x and having the chase trifecta, and what would be the best way to redeemed flights or hotels, or should i use a completely diffirent system?
I just got my venture X and while that Sapphire Reserve $300 travel is way more useful and lucrative for me ( I love train travel and public transit), that $550 annual fee is just too high for my budget and income. Im sticking with Venture X until they raise their fee too (its inevitable).
🤠 thank you ! I’ll get the chase trifecta and my boyfriend capital one venture one and venture x we travel a lot internationally so it could be great for the upgrades
Really appreciate your video(s) and insight. You bring up a lot of great points. Looking for my first travel card, credit is really good.. have just not had a cc that I’ve really used. Not really looking to get multiple cards, don’t mind paying fee as long as I know I have a chance to get some of that back in benefits they provide. Is there a recommendation or 2 that you could make? Reasons why? Appreciate your time and assistance.
Hey Ask Sebby - Thanks for the quality and educational content, as always. Have a question for you: What catch-all card would you recommend, other than the Capital One Venture X, to someone who already has all major spending categories covered with existing credit cards (Rent, Dining, Travel, Groceries). Essentially a card that would get better than 1x points on all those smaller miscellaneous spending categories not listed above. Open to both points-based and cashback. Thank you!! :)
Chase does not give you more cashback for your money, Sebby. Remember, Capital one earns 2X per every dollar while CSR earns 1X per every dollars. So if you spend $10,000 on each card and redeemed for cashback, with CSR you’ll have 10,000 URP = $100. With the VX you’ll have 20,000 miles = $100.
eh, depends on use. I'm getting at least 2 to 3 cents for them and using the Freedom Unlimited getting 1.5% that's a guaranteed 3-4.5% return. Whereas you CAN get more value with the CapOne points but not as easy as with Hyatt.
I’m currently on the beginner/discover/graduated capital one platinum portion of my credit journey and was able to get the Savor One, after being denied for Chase’s Freedom Flex and Unlimited, at this point I’ll probably end up with the VX first 😅
Few extra things. Pricing in Capital One portal is sometimes better than Chase but I've never seen it worse. Capital One portal does price matching. Which was no fuss. C1 customer support was more user friendly than Chase.
My experience as well. There are numerous negative reviews of C1 customer service but I had all positive experiences with great reps who took pride in their work; not the case with Chase. Just a note, I just have the Venture X; is it possible the calls get directed to the better rated reps if it is a Venture X holder? Thanks
Can you do a video on sweet spot for venture x transfer partners, for international travel, find it tough to get good redemption value for the cap1 points
Would love your thoughts on the US Bancorp duofecta (possible trifecta): US Bank Altitude Go 0$ annual fee, 4x on dining restaurant etc, 2x on groceries and gas and ev and streaming US Bank Attitude Reserve $400 annual fee with $325 in dining or travel credit 3x on mobile wallet purchases (apple pay google pay samsung pay) US Bank Altitude Connect 99$ AF 4x on gas/ev 2x on dining/resturants and groceries (this one would only be used if heavy gas/ev is being used constantly)
Due to work travel, and me being able to book through their travel portal and expense, it has been a great card for me. I think I’ve earned between 70k-80k points on work expenses alone, not including my personal use of the card.
I have the C1 Venture X and one area some folks may not know is how bad is the C1 dispute a charge process is. Is a complete joke!!! I am so disappointed that I cut back significantly on spending to my Venture X Card. I don’t want to cancel it because of the Capital One Lounge in my home airport (IAD)!! I’ll make sure I get drunk at their bar for free every time I fly from IAD. I put the card in my underwear drawer. 😅
This is my year 2 with venture X. Im considering to cancel it bc their travel benefit is not good. Also customer service (price match) sucks.. The travel portal doesnt offer packages (flight/hotel) and filters dont offer variety of options. No free breakfast included with through parterns while if you book the same hotel, free breakfast is included and per averg, is 100 to 200 cheaper in expedia/priceline/booking. Also, there is no domestic carriers (yes you can transfer credit and get domestic flights but is limited). PP is not accepted in my city-o'hare. I really liked the restaurant credit but is longer offered. Umm.. i dont know...
If a $995 annual fee is sticker shock to you, you are likely not the target customer for the American Express Platinum Card, or the benefits that come with it.
Comparing apples to apples, comparing Venture X with Sapphire Reserve or Amex Platinum, it appears that the much lower fee on Venture X seems to be the better deal.
My wife and I are looking to get a premium travel card but cannot decide between this one and the chase Saphire reserve. It seems like the biggest differentiator for me is the travel partners. And chase having more domestic travel partners we actually use but we aren’t sure about the large AF. Help! Haha
Is the Venture a better card than the Venture X if I already have the platinum. I get all the lounge benefits with the platinum and I don't care about the capital one lounges. I use platinum to book flights, so no advantage of having the venture x there. I almost never use credit card portals to book travel, so again the multipliers don't matter. For everything else, Venture is identical to the Venture X, just one less card to keep track of the credits for.
🤠 question about ANA…since u have to book round trip will they ever approval the first leg and not the return. My trips are 30 days and they are always available…thanks in advance if you can give me some advice. Great content as usual.
I sacrificed a chase slot for venture x early this year to share lounge assess across my extended family. We are sometimes pay extra to fly from JFK to use the longes and my family hates to relocate to EWR. I am so looking forward to the “lounge” assess at LGA!
🤠 I love my Venture X as I've gotten a lot of value from it through redemptions (5cpp average so far) Priority Pass, (mostly internationally and restaurants in the first 7 months) and because my biggest spending category is nonbonused spend. But I where I have been miffed is my 2 visits to Denver (after the loinge was originally "supposed" to open and now without restaurants my home airport PDX has nothing for me. I have another Denver trip in Sept... I really hope they don't let me down a 3rd time.... but overall I'm really happy with the card. Gonna get the Ritz Carlton for restaurants once my year is up on the boundless.
Capital one told me they can’t guarantee the venture x to be metal from upgrading from venture idk if this is true I never seen a plastic venture X any thoughts ?
Despite all the hype, I've decided the venture X isn't for me. I don't like being forced to book through a portal and I mostly book flights with Southwest. With the venture X I'd only get 2x back when I can get 3x back with my gold card or 4X with my altitude connect card. Secondly, I work part-time for a hotel so I can get discounted rates, so I would very very rarely book a hotel through the portal. Plus I have the venture one so I have access to the travel partners and I have the saver one. So I kind of feel like I don't need the venture X.
🤠 I didn’t know the business VX still had restaurant access. May be worth getting just for that (PDX is home airport). Not that I’d get the SUB as the spend requirement is wild.
Hey Sebby ! Struggling with whether to go with the Venture X or CSR! I have about 260k UR points. Also have about $500 cash with the Savor Card. (I got that card before the AF and it’s waived every year) !
I think capital is going to raise the annual fee to 495soon. The reason they put 395 at beginning is to track more applications. What you think sebby ?
Just got rid of my Reserve felt like the quialty of the card has gone down both from points and customer seivde called retion twice each time explained how I have had the card for 6 years and my concerns and it was deaf years. Hanging with Amex for the foreseeable future minus my $49 a year IHG
🤠 I'm a big fan of the Venture X. I overlooked the fact that the 5x multiplier for flights only applies to bookings made through capital one's portal. The only major drawback I see is not being able to make a seat selection so I put all of my basic economy and Southwest bookings on this card. Are there any other drawbacks to booking flights with travel portals instead of making the booking on the Airline's site?
I have an 800 credit score with 7 cards, $54,000 limit, and 2% utilization and even got denied for just the venture ☹️. Not Sure what it takes. They said too many lines of credit. Wonder how long between cards I should wait to get approved

More of a SUB card then downgrade to Venture or Venture One
the travel portal for capital one is great! you should give it another chance
CapOne travel is MUCH MUCH better than Chase. I stick to rental cars and hotels though, always book flights direct.
We need a video on card cancellation strategy to optimize (re)eligibility for intro bonus. Esp for the more than once in a lifetime intro bonus cards.
Being with the venture x for a year. Besides the -5 cost, I like the Hertz president's circle, tsa precheck, and priority pass.
I also have the venture x and love it
Venture X and Savor one is THE set up ! 🤠
Enjoy! :) It's a great card.
I decided to get the Venture instead. I didn’t really want to deal with the $300 portal credit and the Venture $95 AF is worth it to me for 2 lounge visits a year. 🤠
🤠You definitely bring up some good points and things to consider when considering the Venture X. Thanks Sebby
Glad it’s helpful!
(cowboy) Ive had the Venture x for almost a year! I love it and Just booked a trip to Eastern Europe and back for free! flying out on Thursday.
It's still a keep for me even with the downgrades. The card effectively still paying you to keep it is too good to begin with.
This is a great card. Cap 1 is effectively paying you $5 to hold the card plus you get priority pass.
🤠🤠 we’re in houston we need you on the podcast
Thanks
Wow! That’s a sharp turn, Sebby!
I wonder why - transfer miles were never so “hard to use” for you.
Sorry for the tone, just a bit 💔
🤠
What’s your upload schedule? I’ve been binge watching all your videos lately lol. Love the content. Keep it coming 💪 💰 🛩️
🤠 still one of the better cards in my book. I’m sure the annual fee will increase at some point. Then it will be time to move on.
Got a savor one card recently. How long is the typical wait time to get the intro bonus for the Venture X? Thanks!
If a have a lot of points on the Savor card will it be more difficult to be approved for the Venture X?
Can you do a video on sweet spot for venture x transfer partners, for international travel, find it tough to get good redemption value for the cap1 points
IAD is also in a wealthy area. DC is a transient town too. Lots of flights
Why was Capital One offering a product change from the Venture to the Venture X? That's all I want to know.
Would love your thoughts on the US Bancorp duofecta (possible trifecta):
US Bank Altitude Go 0$ annual fee, 4x on dining restaurant etc, 2x on groceries and gas and ev and streaming
US Bank Attitude Reserve $400 annual fee with $325 in dining or travel credit 3x on mobile wallet purchases (apple pay google pay samsung pay)
US Bank Altitude Connect 99$ AF 4x on gas/ev 2x on dining/resturants and groceries (this one would only be used if heavy gas/ev is being used constantly)
Due to work travel, and me being able to book through their travel portal and expense, it has been a great card for me. I think I’ve earned between 70k-80k points on work expenses alone, not including my personal use of the card.
🤠 As it stands, I like the Venture X card at its current price point.
🤠 much love from China. Great video!
Isn’t the $300 travel credit annual and the 10,000 points in the card anniversary?
Good review 🤠
My wife and I are looking to get a premium travel card but cannot decide between this one and the chase Saphire reserve. It seems like the biggest differentiator for me is the travel partners. And chase having more domestic travel partners we actually use but we aren’t sure about the large AF. Help! Haha
🤠
Is the Venture a better card than the Venture X if I already have the platinum. I get all the lounge benefits with the platinum and I don't care about the capital one lounges. I use platinum to book flights, so no advantage of having the venture x there. I almost never use credit card portals to book travel, so again the multipliers don't matter. For everything else, Venture is identical to the Venture X, just one less card to keep track of the credits for.
I've heard that some Venture X holders are being denied at some lounges, has anyone experienced or heard the same?
🤠 7:33 I rarely find good hotel deals in the portal. Discount airlines or non-alliance flights are the sweet spot for the travel credit.
Need that cap one lounge in vegas. The amex lounge is still often crowded.
🤠 question about ANA…since u have to book round trip will they ever approval the first leg and not the return. My trips are 30 days and they are always available…thanks in advance if you can give me some advice. Great content as usual.
I have chase trifecta (CSP version). For non category spend, should I use c1vx or CFU?
Comparing redemption value for a free 10K C1 anniversary points to 10K Chase points you have to spend to receive seems a little apples vs oranges
This card is improving by the day :) I'm okay having it.
I sacrificed a chase slot for venture x early this year to share lounge assess across my extended family. We are sometimes pay extra to fly from JFK to use the longes and my family hates to relocate to EWR. I am so looking forward to the “lounge” assess at LGA!
When you downgrade a card, do you still have an opportunity to get the spend bonus?
CSP and CapOneVenX are the GOATS.
I never bit the bait from ppl advertising this card as a must have. It’s either Chase, Amex, or Citi? Pick one.
I have but never use spend on it. Chase is better in most scenarios
Rental car through capital1 portal has been the same or many times cheaper than booking direct with rental car company actually
I still can’t get approved for this card with an 800 credit score. Maybe I should miss a few payments 🙄
Whenever I make a flight booking through a portal I just go to that airline's app afterwards and choose my seat.
Seb - I see you😮. It's a keeper.
I just watched your video and applied for the Venture X abd got an instant $30k approval
Congrats!
“Hope you guys liked it.” got cut off from the end 🤠
Don't forget to add Apple Card to avoid also....
This is the card that will replace my amex plat and chase pref. The centurion is overrated always full and restrictive
I don’t know why some content creators insist on using jump zooms throughout their videos. It’s unnecessary and is actually quite annoying.
ADHD.
Shebby how do I get this card as a person with 800+ credit score but 20 cards in already :)
Last Comment? Ahh 😫.
Like Always Sebby. Your videos 👍
Thanks! :)
What about retention officers?
Wait! How do you get 2 CPP with Venture X on transfers? I always transfer my points to Turkish Airlines but it’s 1 CPP
It's 1:1 but value is a function of [points needed] / [price of flight]
i.e., 80,000 for a $1,600 flight = 2 cents per point
@@AskSebby Thanks Sebby, I watched your other video where you explain it 🤙
Has anyone been approved for the venture x and venture at the same time? Do they have a one venture rule?
I have an 800 credit score with 7 cards, $54,000 limit, and 2% utilization and even got denied for just the venture ☹️. Not Sure what it takes. They said too many lines of credit. Wonder how long between cards I should wait to get approved
I mean...you have 7 cards...you may need to wait a little longer before requesting. Also - how many hard pulls are on your credit report?
