It's a proper destination for the visiting historians and an excellent place for videos.

Kelly’s Station is coming along beautifully! You’ve done a great deal thus far and it certainly must give you a great feeling of accomplishment and history! I Love seeing the progress and meeting your friends, like the General. Thanks to him as well! Here in LancasterCounty I helped restore an 1812 brick house built by a Joseph Charles along the Susquehanna River. 8 fire places and there was only 1+2 coats of paint over the original. I restored the stair case, door frames, shutters, which were original, wood grained the doors and handrail on the main stairs. The base boards in the entrance way which exposed the stairs was painted turquoise with a black molding, like a 57 Chevy, original colors. Of course colors like turquoise was a sign of wealth being that the pigments were quite expensive. Cleaning the single coat of modern paint over the original I found inscriptions. I couldn’t make out the names very well but it said Admiral _______and Captain _______ Stair builders. Of course the war of 1812 was happening at the time. My friend who owned the house was an antiquarian and architectural historian. A brilliant man now passed on from Parkinson’s disease. I did quite a bit of restoration of his many period antiques. He owned 113 tall case clocks from Lancaster and surrounding counties. He donated many items to Historical places and historical societies. Also to Rock Ford, home of Edward Hand, Wheatland, home of James Buchanan our 15th President and others. Edward Hand 1744-1802 was a surgeon and General to Washington. The museum at Rock Ford is the Snyder Museum. John J. Snyder Jr. my friend who owned the house I referred to. He did so much for the preservation of Lancaster County history, furniture and architecture. He donated many things but also had four days of public auctions. That money from the auction was place in a trust for historic preservation to the tune of over $9,000,000. It was a huge honor to have worked for John but more so to be friends. Well for wanting to write a few lines about inscriptions under old paint I recon I buttoned quite a bit once again. And on this very hot and humid day my cousin Steve and I cleaned the head stones of our Ancestors. A very rewarding day. One stone was our GGGGrandparents who came here from Ireland in 1815. Alexander and (Rachel ) Shanks was born 1772 , and died 1860. We have both their photographs. Okay, now it’s time for coffee! Thank You Peter! I so much enjoy Woodland Escape! Interesting, I'm in Col. Meig's 2nd Company, 6th Connecticut Regiment (1st Sgt. in the Light infantry). We need more (young) people in 18th century reenacting.
I loved going to events repeatedly because, as Tom said, it was a different event each time! I have the best memories from Fort Erie, from being stationed above the ditch and firing into the fort to running back to fetch the ladders and lead the way in. Getting up in the fort, being a part of the surrender, and the general merriment of an event. I hope to make it out to Erie this year for the 210th.
I'm sure it must have been quite a comfort living near a Fort such as yours back in the frontier days, a place of safety when trouble comes knocking and a centre of civilization and trade. Interesting video as usual Peter and always nice to see some local wildlife.

Appreciate your efforts and dedication! How does one build a fort? One log at a time! It is an interesting time we live in. And the importance of history should be front and center, in my opinion. The youth are key to keeping this alive. Many times, an education day where school groups come thru an event can really boost the overall attendance. Bringing their family's back to share what they have experienced. Interactive participation with the public is also another important aspect. Give someone a camp choir, and they are hooked! Did you 'pull rank' on him by letting him know you hold-the-title of; Emperor? LOL! And then there's your fine Empress who impresses us all with such a fine and artful hand at filming = Lovely work Catherine! I am most certain that 'Fred' was not in attendance at the time of the General's visit, or he would have plucked a few of those lofty plumes to feather-a nest and keep the General in pecking order! Timing is everything! It simply 'amazes' me to see all one man/woman (for the most part) can do = your homestead and then the 'Fort'! You must have read this quote of: James Cook..."Do just once what others say you can't do, and you will never pay attention to their limitations again." Just recently discovered your channel. I think Ive nearly made it through all your videos. Ive been sick for a long time(9years), and havent been able to participate in any bushcraft. Fancy myself a bowyer, even got to study under the late great Ed Scott(also an arborist). Your videos are helping me get through some tough stuff. Im still a young man(36), so I hope I have more bushcraft in front of me. The burning desire I have to make a birchbark canoe is insatiable, and enough to power me through until health finds me again. Your enthusiasm is quite infectious, Ive been describing you as the Bob Ross of Bushcraft to my friends. I hope to run into you some day, when I do, you'll have a nice sinew backed bow waiting on you.

I really enjoy you channel, I grew up in N.J. U.S.A., while growing up, my parents would point out all the revolutionary war locations, wich abounded in N.J. I remember as a very young child, imagining that the British were about to attack. Your channel helps bring back those very long ago memories. Nice video.

Hey Peter its looking so good! I have a feeling itll be all together soon! As far as educating the public, im finding more sites want something cultural and crafting, rather than just battle scenes. One event i created is on its 3rd year, and no guns are involved. Its a cultural shift theee days. But as an educator im enjoying it just as well.

I swear I know Tom from more than 20 years ago. I used to work at Pickering Museum Village and I knew some of the other folks from the 49th and the guy he reminds me of ended up being in a fair bit of film around the time I first time I met him. The guy I am thinking of ended up on The Crossing with Jeff Daniels and his portrayal of Geroge Washington and also the Canada: A People's History series where he appeared on the Rev War and War of 1812 episodes. I'm not sure if he is the same gent or not but I haven't seen this fellow for a quarter of a century but his face looks familiar anyway.

Quick question, I have been wanting a charleville for my impression but haven’t found documentation of civilians owning military muskets in the mid 18th century (1750-1760)? Could see it happening just haven’t found any written documentation of this happening any input is appreciated.
I know there are reenactors who actually want to join and become more administrative in their roles but I wonder then, how much of your time is spent on logistics and not having the fun of reenacting. I'd rather be one of the lesser ranks who gets to take part in the actual day to day of the soldiers. But thank goodness there are good men like the Brigadier General who selflessly gives his time for the fun of the other people.

Thumbs up. You do a great job. Dont think i could ever get into the reenacting. But, in my own way, ive kind of gone backwards in my lifestyle too. In spring i try to fill the larder with fish . In the summer i tend a garden as big as practical. In fall i love to go out with the long bow and burn blackpowder. In winter i tend the animals and see to the wood pile which is still our main source of heat, although we do have central heat should we need it. So, for me, i guess things havent changed that much since earlier days. Am i a reenactor?😊
@@TheWoodlandEscape I think I'm a reenactor by lifestyle and a student of history. I just can't see myself in a big plumed tricorn hat and big buttoned scarlet waistcoat. The turkeys would laugh at me. But I do see the value in the reenacting. It adds to the history you teach. Wouldn't miss one of your presentations. Take care, sir, and watch your top knot.
you knew you were going to do this before you installed the place but I'm sorry can you explain what a doubt is i've heard of it but I don't know what it does or what it is.
The problem is a lot of the public are extremely dumb.. my other also does living history and almost always cooks something over a camo fire. He used to cook a lot in Dutch ovens baking bread or some kind od dessert. If nothing else some kind of meat and vegetables. On numerous occasions people have walked up and asked if it was real food cooking over the fire. They weren't joking. I like going to events but the public I'd rather not deal with most of them. The ones that don't know what you are doing but act like they do and tell their kids the wrong things do irk me. But every now and then I run across and old guy that did or does wood working and we have a good conversation. I need to start bring a bench along with me . I got my shaving horse to set on but nothing for anyone else.

The guy I am thinking of ended up on The Crossing with Jeff Daniels and his portrayal of Geroge Washington and also the Canada: A People's History series where he appeared on the Rev War and War of 1812 episodes. I'm not sure if he is the same gent or not but I haven't seen this fellow for a quarter of a century but his face looks familiar anyway.

Quick question, I have been wanting a charleville for my impression but haven’t found documentation of civilians owning military muskets in the mid 18th century (1750-1760)? Could see it happening just haven’t found any written documentation of this happening any input is appreciated.
I know there are reenactors who actually want to join and become more administrative in their roles but I wonder then, how much of your time is spent on logistics and not having the fun of reenacting. I'd rather be one of the lesser ranks who gets to take part in the actual day to day of the soldiers. But thank goodness there are good men like the Brigadier General who selflessly gives his time for the fun of the other people.

Thumbs up. You do a great job. Dont think i could ever get into the reenacting. But, in my own way, ive kind of gone backwards in my lifestyle too. In spring i try to fill the larder with fish . In the summer i tend a garden as big as practical. In fall i love to go out with the long bow and burn blackpowder. In winter i tend the animals and see to the wood pile which is still our main source of heat, although we do have central heat should we need it. So, for me, i guess things havent changed that much since earlier days. Am i a reenactor?😊

@@TheWoodlandEscape I think I'm a reenactor by lifestyle and a student of history. I just can't see myself in a big plumed tricorn hat and big buttoned scarlet waistcoat. The turkeys would laugh at me. But I do see the value in the reenacting. It adds to the history you teach. Wouldn't miss one of your presentations. Take care, sir, and watch your top knot.

The problem is a lot of the public are extremely dumb.. my other also does living history and almost always cooks something over a camo fire. He used to cook a lot in Dutch ovens baking bread or some kind od dessert. If nothing else some kind of meat and vegetables. On numerous occasions people have walked up and asked if it was real food cooking over the fire. They weren't joking. I like going to events but the public I'd rather not deal with most of them. The ones that don't know what you are doing but act like they do and tell their kids the wrong things do irk me. But every now and then I run across and old guy that did or does wood working and we have a good conversation. I need to start bring a bench along with me . I got my shaving horse to set on but nothing for anyone else.
