The Turret armour is strong enough to withstand ATGMs...the problem is you die from overpressure instead. The armour is good but there isn't enough of it especially closer to the gun mantlet. I really wish the T62M1 was the premium as the turret armour is even stronger due to the T62s more uniform 200mm thickness compared to the T55As teardrop shape turret with 200mm only at the leading edge. This plus the additional armour is great.
Average capability leap of "0.3/0.4 higher br than the tech tree version" premium. This thing is effectively a T-62M1 sidegrade at lower br - and a proficient squad-bully wehicle on top of that
I would honestly say its the best version of the T-55. Sure its weaker against tanks compared to the AM version because of less armor BUT having a hard kill system against ATGMs is amazing. Especially in long range fights i just love laughing at some light tank as thes try to spam 5 missiles my way with none doing any damage.
@@BlackWolf9988 Perfect for when helicopters start sniping with ATGMs to ruin your game. Its a sidegrade but a valid one. ATGMS tend to overpressure the crew even when hitting the AM1's Turret Armour - Drozd negates that problem entirely
When I was grinding the T-62AM or whatever it's called, I was fighting a Leopard 1 and he had HEAT. The poor guy didn't know what was coming. He shot me like 14 times and did nothing. I just stood there in disappointment as my barrel got repaired. Not a single shot was aimed at the lower front plate.

@@Tufeoo As a german player I can second this for my teamates. Im no megamind or MVP. But the raw stupidity I see is absurd. I normaly have a KD of like 3.7? so im not that great. But man my teamates piss me off.
And yet this thing can fight centurions and Caernarvons... they literally cant do anything against it, and i've even had more shatters and non pens on the turret "weakspot" than actual damaging hits.
Problem is the fact that doesn't work in the game. Eg Raketenautomat has 330 mm pen with heat and pass trough without trouble in the game. That what shows in the garage or in testing doesn't corespondents to the game, but good video anyway and like for me. Try TAM 2 IP vs uper front of turret (under roof little higher of gun) on the T-90. IMHO absolutely broken light tank
Genuinely asking is the T-55AMD really worth it? And if the average battle in thst BR is good? Im at 7.3 soviet and god its a pain. Always paired with the germans and they do anything but teamwork 😐
7.3 soviet can be fun but i ended up never playing it since all my friends were lower br so i just played 6.7 until around 7.7. The amd is not very good. The am is way better and i would recommend just buying a talisman for it when you unlock it. If you want another premium, object 120 is actually very good. I just got it recently and regret not getting it sooner. Very powerful and easily can kill almost anything at its br plus its reload is pretty good. But anyways i think its a waste of time to get it unless its on sale, get object 120 if you want a premium at that br. But I think the best option would actually be the t80 or t72 since they will allow you to grind further in the tech tree
