For like a past week, I was looking for a nice replacement for tiny epic dungeons that gives me the same feel. I played it only solo and this seems to scratch the same itch + everything being cards means I can custom make more content if the game is interesting as it seems from the video. Can't wait!
@Mike - this is 8-bit. 8bit is the NES era, think like the original Super Mario Bros, the first Legend of Zelda, Mega Man, etc. 16bit is Super Nintendo era stuff - Link to the Past, Earthbound, Kirby Super Star etc. This is a super simple explanation and probably not 100% correct, it's just how I've come to think about and recognize each "style" as a pixel artist. Someone will probably correct me in the comments:) Very much looking forward to getting my hands on this one. I have really fond memories of playing the first Dragon Warrior game as a kid and that's what this made me think of when I first saw it. Plus the mechanisms sound like fun.
I love the 8-bit retro look! It reminds me of early console and home computer games of my childhood. I was considering backing this one, so seeing this video pop-up is great timing! I'm certainly backing it after this video, Mike. And I'm following it on gamefound. Couple questions: How do you get that acrylic figure? I didn't see it on Etsy. Do you know if the expansion will be available in the upcoming kickstarter?
I bought the acrylic figure directly from the publisher in Japan. Perhaps they’ll offer it as an add-on? And I do believe the expansion will be offered as well.
I am going to Japan later this year and this game was my number one most anticipated purchase. But now I think I will wait until the salt and pepper release. Very happy that it is happening
Wow, really clever use of components. I love it. How much table space does it take? It's hard to estimate from the video. Would it fit on a plane table?
looks great! my only concern is that, when games from Japan get imported to the US, the publishers often change the art, ruining the unique aesthetic (Mai-Star, I'm looking at you) by replacing it with something generic
This looks great, Mike, but the fiddliness will probably keep me away. I've discovered if I don't have multilayer scoreboards, I'm not going to have a reliable score! You straight-up CHEATED in the overview - it was so NOT on 25! - so I figure the number of times I cheat will be in the double digits!
To be fair, I think the only reason I messed up the scoring track was because I was filming an overview and my full attention couldn’t be on the game. I don’t believe I’ve ever had that issue during an actual game.
Loved your well thought out review of this game I’ve never heard of. Counterpoint the art style of pixelated has been so overdone I don’t think it stands out and the enemies looked somewhat uninspired. The gameplay is more involved that meets the eye but it does appear fiddly as you mentioned. To me this seems like a rejected phone app game that had such a simplistic UI it was easily translated to paper. Definitely don’t hate it but I feel like it doesn’t present enough challenge and would be too variance dependent for success or continued plays. I think I’ll pass but I always respect you opinions
@@Mario-pq9bi I own over a dozen retro arcade (standup) and pinball machines, how many do you? Has nothing to do with not liking the art style for THIS game.
Awesome video Mike!
Runs like Slay the spire, really cool.
Im sold. Im gonna have to get a copy when it comes out in english
Looks great Mike. Keep the Japanese game reviews comin’!
Awesome, thanks Mike! Definitely getting this
Great little game, even better review, thanks
Love to see this game getting more and more love, gotta love the timing of this hitting just as mine did as well! Great minds think alike!
Thanks for the video.
I will try to get one copy in Essen

I'm inclined to say the artwork is actually 4-bit inspired, not 8-bit. The sprites are much more akin to Atari and Commodore than NES
@@Jimmothy yeah visually it's very atari looking, but it seems to be inspired more by classic famicom jrpgs in theme
This looks amazing, especially for a Solitaire game.
I am definetly getting this one
Sold!
Oh cool! You sourced a copy I’m waiting on Gamefound release. I was looking for some time to source a copy.

@@michaeldilisio557 Thanks for the info!
Where did you get the acrylic monster?
Looks pretty fun
Looks like its coming to Gamefound. I just followed the campaign,
I am going to Japan later this year and this game was my number one most anticipated purchase. But now I think I will wait until the salt and pepper release. Very happy that it is happening
This looks so fun! Do you have any idea when it will be released in the States?
It’s going to Gamefound relatively soon I believe.
Wow, really clever use of components. I love it. How much table space does it take? It's hard to estimate from the video. Would it fit on a plane table?
Potentially? It might be tight, but especially if you played the short game where you only use 2 map cards, I think you could do it.
Will the English edition be under the same name?
I believe so.

Looks like luck of the draw can really screw things up. That stinks
Not digging the 8 bit look. I hope they switch art styles. But thanks for the review!
