Question?? If everything is better in Disneyland, could it be that WDW is way too big?? I'm thinking that is correct. Sometimes less is better.

Love both parks but find Disneyland more magical. The characters are way more interactive, the food is better, it is more manageable and relaxing . Most of the classic attractions are superior. I do love certain aspects of Disney world and grew up going there but I feel the overall quality even though smaller is better at Disneyland.

I love both WDW and DLR for different reasons. Honestly, it’s hard to compare as WDW has AK and the Skyliner. One major difference for us is the Candlelight Procession. Although DLR has it only on the first weekend in December, its intimate presentation makes it more touching and memorable to kickoff the Holiday season.

Conversely, Emma was being polite by not naming WDW Jungle Cruise the clear winner. I mean, she gave it the edge, but it's easily the winner. They have the whole added cave scene, PLUS they still do Jingle Cruise during the holidays. If Disneyland HM wins because of NBC, WDW Jungle wins because of Jingle. I agree though, Disneyland HM should win by virtue of the elevator alone.

Awesome video! Thanks - you are so knowledgeable. For me - Disneyland has almost as many attractions in a much more accessible layout. I found it so hard to get around Disney World. We get on more rides at Disneyland. Also - Anaheim is so close to the beach (Newport beach is awesome) and there is a water park nearby - and tons of fine dining an Uber ride away so if you look at geographic area offerings - Disneyland wins (in my book). Plus the weather is better at Disneyland. Summer is hot but not humid and we get less rain. Tons of walkable hotels right outside the park - and grand Californian is directly connected - that’s huge for us. Universal is so much better in Florida though - so for folks who want to do both - definitely Florida wins.

I enjoy Disney World a lot! I have to admit, there are things there that Disneyland doesn't deliver... But all in all, I feel they don't need to. Disneyland has my heart. It's home. I know it like the back of my hand. And maybe that's what makes it so special to me.

I also grew up going to DL but now live on the East Coast so frequent WDW these days. DL has better rides but WDW just feels nicer overall. I think DL is more about min/maxing rides and WDW is more about the resort, leisure, stopping and smelling the flowers. I always feel like I’m truly on vacation at WDW. DL feels so much more crowded and chaotic. With that said I don’t prefer one over the other. They both are great and both have their downsides.

Depends how much time you have. For a week long vacation, DW for sure. Yes the parks are more spread out but it feels like a resort vacation. DL is definitely more quaint and is special because Walt built it and walked there but it’s smack dab in the middle of LA. It’s surrounded by traffic and concrete. It doesn’t feel like quite the escape DW does in my opinion.

  • @rygregory

For me, Disneyland. People love saying that Disneyland is a weekend resort but at least you’re in Southern California. Literally, go do something outside of Disney property: see a broadway musical, go tour the Disney Studios (or other studio lots), eat at the Tam O’Shanter, see the Griffith Park merry go round, see Walt Disney’s first and second house, eat at Clifton’s to see what inspired Critter Country/Country Bear Jamboree, etc. Literally, the entire region is steeped in Disney history!
Don’t get me wrong, I love WDW for my weeklong vacation as well. But I’d happily do that vacation once a year at most. However, if I could be a local to either resort, hands down it would be Disneyland. It always feels like a quaint, small town where everyone knows your name. I go to Disneyland and it feels like it’s “mine” and it’s so personal. WDW, I definitely feel like a visitor at a place made for the masses. Not necessarily a bad thing, especially when you’re there for the grandeur, but still a bit impersonal.

If you're looking for a week long vacation, WDW is the winner because there's just a lot more to do. Disney Springs and hotel resort hopping are perfect ways to spend rest days. At DLR, you can explore the hotels and DTD in like 2 hours. If you're looking for a weekend getaway, Disneyland wins. If you're comparing one park to one park (and not resort to resort), the OG Disneyland wins hands down. At the end of the day, I appreciate that as Disney fans, we have two choices in where we want to go domestically if we want a Disney vacation.
Also, really glad to see you guys got to see Magic Happens, just wish we got a review. I absolutely LOVE that parade so I'm interested to hear your thoughts on it.

  • @vvvcfg

Apples and oranges. They are two very different experiences. Both great.Been to both. WDW wins for me because of the more affordable on property lodging, variety of cultural experiences, plethora of attractions, variety of live entertainment, fireworks, and variety of activities, e.g., waterparks, Disney Springs, watercraft, horse back riding, archery, fishing, arts and crafts, etc. if you want a 3 day vacay and dont mind giving up early entry because of the price of resorts, go to DL/ DCA. But if you want to stay in the magic and have a longer vacay at the parks with more variety of stuff to do, WDW all the way.

I'd say 3 days is the better choice for a trip to Disneyland! 2 days is also manageable with Lightning Lane, but there's simply so much to see even if it's packed into a smaller footprint. I'm pretty sure that Disneyland & Disney World have around the same number of rides with the difference being that world has them spread between 4 parks while land's are only spread between 2.

For me its simple if you are a florida resident, Disneyworld is far better because of size, variety, themes. If you are a california resident, Disneyland is far better. If you are neither, if you want a 2-3 day vacation, Disneyland wins, if you want a 4-10 day vacation, Disney World is far the better choice not even close. Pretty simple to me, been to DL, DW, HKDL, DLP, been to TokyoDisney and Disney Sea. The same applies to those as well. 4-10 days? Make the trip to Orlando, plus you can do Universal and Seaworld. Only have 1-3 days? Go to Tokyo Disney/Sea, DLP, HK disneyland is a pass for me, but Hk is amazing. None of them can beat DW for Annual Passability/ multi day vacation. Animal Kingdom alone makes me recommend it, but epcot and Hollywood knock it out of the park, Magic Kingdom is probably the mehest of all the similar parks.

Carousel of Progress “a clear winner” for WDW? That’s like saying, “Disneyland is a clear winner for Matterhorn Bobsleds because WDW didn’t even try.”
Also, Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse preceded the Tarzan treehouse at Disneyland. So really, they’re just going back to its original theming.
As for food, that “higher ceiling” for food at WDW simply isn’t true just because there are more food establishments. The base food at Disneyland is better because the executive chefs are better. Regardless of how many options you have, if you don’t attract the talent to create better food, opening up hundreds more restaurants doesn’t make the food any better. LA attracts amazingly talented chefs and to disregard all of the amazing restaurants in Southern California is unfair. Since a trip to Disneyland usually means you’re more connected to the outside community vs. being in a bubble at WDW where most guests will find it inconvenient to venture outside of Disney property.

I won’t even go on space mountain in WDW because you’re sitting higher and it’s not as comfortable as Disneylands side by side and lower in the seat. Why has no one else noticed the padding on the Matterhorn seats. Yes it’s thin but it makes the difference of not riding it or not. I really checked it out and although it’s nothing like the old gymnastic mat padding like the jungle boat ride also (now gone) had it doesn’t break my butt like two years ago with nothing.

I'm not sure you can compare them. I live in Georgia so WDW in Fl. is sort of my home resort. It's a 7 hour drive so I can pop down often. To get to DL, it takes more money and planning for me. I have to find a flight, a hotel and also plan other things to do in the area since it would seem silly to me to fly all the way to the opposite coast and only spend 2 or 3 days in DL. I'm told I've been to DL, but I don't remember. I was born in Cucamonga (before it was Rancho) and we lived in Pasadena so evidently we went often. We moved when I was 3 so I don't remember. I've not been back since but it is on my bucket list.

It's honestly not hard to find things to do in Southern California. When I plan a trip to Florida, I have the opposite problem. There's a bunch of stuff I want to see but Disney World eats up so many vacation days (to do it properly, anyway) that I have to pick and choose.
Both locations have their plusses and minuses. Just a matter of perspective, I guess.

Lastly, I recommend going first 2 weeks of December. Why? Because it's btwn two major holiday school breaks. Kids are in school and it's btwn two school breaks so they won't break during that time. Animal Kingdom with Pandora and Flight of Passage and Cosmic Rewind and all the festivals at EPCOT and cultural experiences. WDW also has two water Parks and Disney Springs. Way more affordable on site hotels!!. The Boardwalk. The Skyliner. A camp ground and cabins. Tons of on -site entertainment and shopping.
If having a simpler vacay is what you want, go west! But if you're trying to please multiple ages of kids and adults, and want many more choices for on property- lodging, restaurants, , rides, activities, shopping and entertainment ,
