Real talent, real musicians, real composers, Superstars. 🤩❤️
At this time Graham Nash, the lead singer of this song and writer, was living with Joni Mitchell at the famous Laurel Canyon in LA. Like everyone who met Joni, was smitten with her.
I'd say a bit more than smitten since they were a couple for awhile. His song about their day to day life "Our House" is wonderful.
You know you have succeeded as a parent in raising you precious lil ones when they grow up and acknowledge all the lessons you have imparted to them...There is no greater reward!Ty guys
fun fact: The steel guitar on this track was played by Jerry Garcia of The Grateful Dead....
Another fun fact - Jerry played on a few of those songs from that album, and the CSNY guys came over and taught the Grateful Dead how to harmonize! Listen to the beautiful harmonies on American Beauty - those are CSNY harmonies all the way!
@@ericgerber9751 fun fact #3,lol.
You might already be aware of this Eric, but I want to share it just in case some fellow music lover wasn't aware: Jerry Garcia and Phil Lesh are both on a few cuts from David Crosby's first solo album, "If I Could Only Remember My Name".
It's pure magic.
Joni Mitchell and Grace Slick are on it too.
Highly recommend the entire album. 💜✌🎶
Dee...the harmonies are what brought them together. They were hanging a t a house in LA and started singing together for fun, and everyone realized how wonderful they sounded together.
Heard and saw that interview about Laurel Canyon.
Their 1971 live version of Southern Man is EPIC. Incredible guitar work between Stills and Young.
It’s beautiful music she is right ❤ when she has kids she can sing this to y’all’s children ❤😂
David Crosby was in the Byrds, Stephen Stills and Neil Young were in Buffalo Springfield and Graham Nas was in the Hollies.
Yes those are their names. David Crosby, Stephen Stills, Graham Nash and Neil Young.
CSNY, a true supergroup of the late 60’s and 70’s. Those harmonies are just so beautiful. One of my favorites by them and that steel guitar is heavenly. ❤✌️
Steel guitar by Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead
This song randomly popped into my head the other day and I was waking around the house just a singing it! I've always loved it.
I have random songs stuck in my head everyday. At least yours was a great one to sing to.
The harmonies of CSN & Y are amazing.Crosby, Stills and Nash- without Neil Young - did a song called "Helplessly Hoping" that showcases those harmonies. Please do a reaction to it.
Ah, Deja Vous. This brings back many happy memories from my high school years. These guys are still tops in my favorites along with Neil Young"s solo work. I think Dee would really like Neil Youngs song "Harvest Moon" beautiful.
I love that metaphor, voices "like doves coming out of a box". Thank you Dee. Great reaction from you guys to one of my favorites by CNSY!
This brings back alot of high school memories, this is a great song!
This is the original recording. These guys have created some wonderful music over the years. There have been some interesting biographies about them. I heard them say that David Crosby couldn't help but harmonize. Graham Nash is English.
Neil young is Canadien. They flourished in the L.A. Music Scene, Laurel Canyon, ETC
Note: Jerry Garcia as guest artist on Steel Guitar.
04:56 “It harmonizes so well together it’s like doves are coming out of a box.”
Blessed to have seen them live, they were never thought of as country. Enjoy
I saw CSN play this live in '87 at Park West in Utah. What a great song and concert. Great reaction!
Teach Your Children " is one of the songs in the movie "Melody Fair" in the 70th .This movie was about 2 very young kids who fell in love with each other. "First of May", "Melody Fair" and "To Love Somebody" by BEE GEE were the other 3 songs in this movie. If you see this movie, I think you will love these songs more.
Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead on the the lap-steel guitar here.
It was actually a steel pedal guitar, not a lap. -- they're different instruments
@@teddtarr Thanks!
I’ve always loved this song. I never knew how much my children would teach me as they grew up, and now that they are adults. Parenthood is an amazing journey. You are so right about the love. You’ve got to love them above all.
ONE OF THEIR MOST IMPORTANT & POIGNANT PIECES ... MESSAGES ON SO MANY LEVELS & A TWANGY MUSIC BACKGROUND!
Now that you both have headphones it's a great time for some studio versions of Led Zepplin and Pink Floyd!😘❤️
YES CHOD AND DEE, DAVID CROSBY ( R.I.P 🙁), STEPHEN STILLS, GRAHAM NASH, AND OF COURSE THE GREAT ( NEIL YOUNG ) 😊
Dee those was your best comments ever. All really good observations you too Chod. My grandparents were Southern
This is the original studio version. So all is good. They put out two all-time classic albums.
RIP David. Their music was awesome.
Thank you for this! This was my mother's favorite song (God rest her soul). I was thankful I was able to introduce it to her in my youth.
"Doves are coming out of a box." Beautifully stated. I shall make it into a work of art.
This song also served to awaken parents into the idea that they would indeed learn from their children as well. That in turn awakened in people a sense of civilian equality rather than military or corporate hierarchy. Parents started growing their hair out and becoming more groovy and laid back.
A Californian (Crosby), a Texan (Stills), an Englishman (Nash), and a Canadian (Young)
Best trio of harmonizing! Yes it is their last names and they used it to get away from being part of other bands that they got burned out in. By naming their group by their own names they kept their own identities when they decided to do their own solo work.
One of the best groups ever!❤
Great song with the headphones 🎧 👌. Now Chod get your beautiful bride a chair like yours
Oh yeah 👍. CSN and CSNY you can't go wrong.
love the guitar work of Jerry Garcia ( Grateful Dead) on this song, but yes as everyone stated their harmonies are incredible.
Remember that this song was written during the Vietnam war when the country was torn apart between an older generation supporting the war and a younger generation against the war in Vietnam.....The divide between older and younger was extremely strong and this song was an attempt to bridge that gap.
One of my favorite CSNY songs!
When their first live performance together was at Woodstock, what can you say about a band like this?
This was our Daughter/father dance song.
Key to the beautiful harmonies was not letting Young sing :)
The harmonies....
Yes, teach them to love each other and everyone they meet and not get caught up with some billionaire leader or someone like Hitler who brings hate and division and end up following blindly.
This is the only song on the LP that Neil Young does not appear on. In compensation for playing the pedal steel guitar on this song, Jerry Garcia asked for lessons in harmonizing. The reason being, The Grateful Dead were recording their acoustic LPs, Working Man's Dead and American Beauty at the time.
Southern Man by Neil was and still is a classic masterpiece that will be heard a hundred or 2 years from now!
No Young on this cut, the bluegrass flavor comes from Jerry Garcia (legendary Grateful Dead lead guitarist) playing pedal steel guitar. David Crosby, recently deceased, had much to do with structuring the harmonies of CSN, it's a real challenge to either pick out his part from the mix or even know for sure which part is the melody, for example on Helplessly Hoping.
The pedal steel guitar was provided by none other than Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead. Quite a good steel guitar player, really -- but he eventually sort of just gave it up. This song by Graham Nash became one of CSN&Y's most famous and best loved and it's easy to see why. It just exudes LOVE from the first note to the last.
I understand where ya hear country, Back in the day only 2 types of Rock. Hard Rock and Soft Rock. This is some of the best soft rock you'll ever hear. Back in the day someone has guitar everyone sits in a circle start playing and singing . And yes gotta roll one up pass it around then someone else roll's one up and passes it the other way. (Just sayin that's the way it was for us hippies in the 70's)
Teach your childern to be a better and kinder person for the next generation. That's what this song is about.
Preach it. Brother
Boom Shaka Laka
Pedal steel guitar is played by Jerry Garcia.
Headphones, yea!!!
Folk/country❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
That's OK! This is the original single version that was a top 10 hit. We had this single on a 45 rpm record and literally wore it out! If you decide to review Woodstock by CSN&Y, the studio version, please do not forget to hear the original studio version by the artist who wrote it, the great Joni Mitchell!
Check out Stephen Stills doing TREE TOP FLYER. A great song about a smuggler
Not sure, but I believe Jerry Garcia from the Greatful Dead played steel guitar on this.
Jerry Garcia on the steel guitar.
Love me some CSNY!!!
Jerry Garcia of Grateful Dead on the pedal steel.
A nod to Jerry Garcia for his work here on the pedal steel.
Another group you should do whole albums of. Check out Deja Vu
If you want to take a wonderful deep dive into CSN then To the "Last Whale... / Critical Mass / Wind on the Water" will delight you.
♥
Nice.....now more Neil Young please.
HEADPHONES.. I'M BACK TO LISTEN
Did you try Cats in the Cradle yet?
Pedal steel guitar is what I think your missus meant.
You should do helplessly hoping with your wife, she will love how they sound on that song. I know you already did that song but not with your wife
An introduction into todays country
And this was done before Auto Tune
Listen t o hollies he is my.heavy.he,s my brother
I don’t think the jogger crosby hit is a big fan, or the people on the liver transplant list he was able to jump over 🤷♂️
this is just Crosby, Stills, and Nash. Neil Young does not appear on this track.
See you managed to select the least best track o n the album .
The Whole Album is Great! Check it out 🇺🇸🪴🌴🍷
